Hi ed 2

With the surprise announcement that Julian Ward has taken up a position with FSG, can we be more confident of sustained success and challenging for honours over the coming years? For me the biggest concern post Klopp is we go back to those hodgson/ dodgers type times which I can't begin to imagine. Also do we know what Klopp intends to do next will he leave football management or does he intend to take the Germany job in the coming years? Thanks for your insights!

{Ed002's Note - The owners want the club to be successful and part of a multi-club set up involving initially, perhaps a French side and certainly a MLS side.

Laporta has previously approached Jurgen Klopp through Marc Kosicke and would likely enquire again for next summer but it does not seem likely anything will happen, particularly as there is a language problem. That of course can be addressed over the next year whilst he sits in his Spanish hogar. Klopp wants time off although the role of German National coach role would allow him a lot more time away from the pressure of the week-to-week game. I expect the DFB to approach Klopp in the first instance to see how he feels about perhaps replacing Nagelsmann in the summer of 2026 after the World Cup in North America. A wildcard would be Bayern Munich but the timing will not be right for Klopp although they are considering an interim coach for next season and that might fit well for Klopp. Bayern have failed in finding a coach who will accept their terms but I suspect a deal can be struck with Hansi Flick with a get out clause of some kind for the summer of 2025 - when they will move for either Klopp or Guardiola.}

That is interesting read Ed2. I thought Bayern intention to go with interim manager for a year or two because of Sebastian Hoeness will take over once he is ready. Never thought that they will move for Klopp or Guardiola again.

{Ed002's Note - He has a contract that runs to 2027 and will have plenty of time to move there later given he is only 40.}

Morning Ed002,

I'm reading lots regarding Wards's return being linked to Klopp leaving, obviously Edwards is back, is it purely coincidental?

Did Klopp work under a sporting director etc at Dortmund?

I'm really hoping you can shed some light on this for me ed002

Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed002's Note - Klopp is not leaving because of Ward. Ward will have the role across FSG footballing assets (they want to buy in to other clubs). Klopp worked under Michael Zorc at Dortmund.}

Question for Ed 2. How would you expect the prospective multi club idea to be leveraged? Do you see liverpool as the collateral for buying other clubs?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool won't be buying other clubs, the owners will look to buy other clubs.}

Evening Ed001.

Hope you're well pal!

What's your thoughts on the the structure within the club?

Edwards back, Ward back, Hughes and Pedro Marques.

Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed001's Note - it seems strange to me to bring back two people who achieved nothing until Klopp arrived, and then put them in roles well above their usual positions anyway. Jobs for the boys it feels like.}

Well put Ed001.

It does feels like Edwards is giving jobs for his friends. Don't know how that will work out for the future though. Although it doesn't seem both will involve directly with Liverpool. That seems to be Hughes job.

10 May 2024 08:34:43
Ed002, you mentioned Nunez was a Klopp signing. Who else was a Klopp signing out of interest?

I seem to remember Salah was third or fourth choice when we bought him?

{Ed002's Note - I really don't want to get in to this.}

Fair enough.

------------We really don't want to open up this can of worms------------

This is almost more intriguing than who we may or may not sign this summer!
MK - maybe.

I’m now head of recruitment for the canteen, Faithinworks. The tea lady and a few others are close to retirement so I’m on a 6 month contract (similar to Schmadtke’s) to phase in a new tea lady and pot washer etc.

You didn’t hear it from me, but Klopp’s being forced out because he wanted to bring in his wife as Kitchen Manager on a £35k a week 5 year deal but Edwards insists she’s in decline and not worth the wages. It all got a bit heated; turned out Beryl left the hob on.

Any news on when Arne Slot should be announced?

Hearing their is an issue with getting the assistant, due to them being the Holland assistant coach as well?

{Ed002's Note - He wants staff to join him and Liverpool need to negotiate. Sipke Hulshoff wants Liverpool to agree for him to continue his dual role - it should not be an issue for Liverpool.}

Hi eds. Are there any players you think Slot will want to bring with him? I have no idea about anyone from Feyonord so forgive me if you have already covered this. Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps David Hancko (CB) Only joined Feyenoord in 2002 and a clear not for sale was the response when Newcastle asked after him in 2023. I am not aware of any formal approach from Liverpool to Feyenoord but they were representated by scouts at games against PSV and Celtic in December. Agent has been offering him around with contact made with Chelsea (who have no interest), Liverpool, Bayern Munich and PSG - and likely others.

Feyenoord will not be keen to lose players to Liverpool after losing their coach and some of their staff.}

Anyone think bayern goal onside?
I thought very dodgy madrid second goal and bayern's was a second goal, but it's madrid why should i think they wouldn't win.

Nothing wrong with either of Joselu's goals in my opinion mate but agree on Bayern's disallowed goal. Laimer clearly onside and the lino and ref have definitely cost Bayern a chance at Extra Time there. For the lino to flag that quickly and then the ref to blow up immediately, you have to query if it's 100% legit/ honest. Most likely just yet more woeful officiating.

09 May 2024 22:20:34
MK, for both the linesman to raise his flag when he should not then for the Ref to blow his whistle very early, meaning that the VAR could not intervene, tells me that something is a bit dodge.

10 May 2024 03:25:11
Absolutely shocking decision. Linesman should keep their flags down unless they'd bet their house on it.

10 May 2024 11:28:08
Think? It was onside! Real shame this happened. Won’t help the conspiracists!

10 May 2024 19:03:17
With the second Madrid goal Joselu was coming back from an offside position. I'm not sure how that rule works but it was in through same phase of play. So whilst he was clearly onside when he scored I was not surprised the assistant flagged as he was clearly off a split second earlier.

The Bayern goal looked offside and it seemed the keeper had stopped when the whistle blew (pure conjecture and impossible to prove) but they should've allowed play to go on and let VAR sort it out. The fact the assistant apologised to Bayern players didn't help the situation.

Semi automatic VAR for offside decisions next season. No idea if that'll be better to worse - we can only hope so.

11 May 2024 00:12:49
Joselu was offside Red but the ball didn’t go to him so when it comes across and he’s behind the ball he’s onside. Perfectly legal goal. The only question was if he was behind the ball when it was played across and he was so it’s fine.

The Bayern disallowed goal was interesting. The linesman flagged because De Ligt was offside but he didn’t get the ball and it went to Laimer who was onside. Theoretically the goal should’ve stood.

However because the flag went up early and the ref blew up the Real players stopped so they might have blocked the shot or the keeper might have saved it had the ref not blown his whistle.

A huge mistake from the linesman that’s dubious at best. It could just be an honest error but it does seem to happen a lot in Real’s favour in the Champions League.
