Usual noise up from my Spurs buddy but he`s adamant Hendo could be on his way to Spurs
"heard a rumour so he say`s"
Well ed`s.

That would usually be difficult to believe had we not done a 'Benitez' and flooded the squad with midfielders -
Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino, Can, Milner, Grujic, Mane, Wijnaldum, Lucas. Hendo

am i missing something here? What does our first team look like next season? Shouldn't we have saved the money from Wijnaldum and bought a replacement for Moreno?

2.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 08:33:55
Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino, Can, Milner, Grujic, Mane, Wijnaldum, Lucas, Hendo

Lucas will be sold and milner will be turn to fullback to backup moreno. Plus we going to use 1 striker only so 5 midfield in one lineup for - 8 players to rotate each game.

3.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 10:24:18
At least we have abit if strength when players inevitably break.

4.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 10:34:08
I guess you're right, it's just difficult to see how we can accommodate all our big players.

5.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 10:44:35
Cant see it myself as that would leave us ridiculously light in centre midfield.

6.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 11:45:54
Can't see hendo leaving, especially if Lucas goes and maybe lallana. Add ojo and Stewart to the 8 mentioned though, as they'll be around the first team in my eyes.

7.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 12:46:20
I think hulls Andrew Robertson looks a very decent left back to be honest.

8.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 13:36:32
Appreciate that players don't always want to come but I reckon we could have got a top top quality left back for the same money we spent on Wijnaldum. Not knocking the lad because he looks a decent enough player but I think that money could have been better spent elsewhere.

9.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 15:20:11
I don't think the signing of Wijnaldum prevented us from affording a left back. The two deals are totally unconnected IMO.

10.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 16:01:18
The point I was trying to make Ron is that - as it stands -the team didn't need another attacking mid so why spend £25m on one when the need for a new LB was much greater. It looks like we're trying to get an LB on the cheap based on the Chilwell deal going to the wall and now being linked with the lad from Leeds - if my guess is correct then I'd have rather used the Wijnaldum money more wisely.

11.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 16:27:46
I don't think the reason we haven't got a left back has anything to do with money.
More to do with our lack of recent success, lack of European football next season and the global lack full backs who can defend.
I also think Wijnaldum will be one of our best signings.

12.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 18:45:40
I don't doubt Wijnaldum's ability but this club has limited funds available as the Eds often tell us so for me, spending £25m on filling a position we didn't need must have had an impact on the amount available to spend on a quality LB.

I don't have the scouting network that some on here seem to have but if we'd combined the Wijnaldum budget with the LB budget then we could have dangled that in front of the top ten LBs to see if they or their clubs were interested. As it stands we've been trying to get Chilwell for less than the supposed £10m asking price and are now looking at a Leeds player who, seemingly, the club are happy to let go - that suggests to me that we only have a relatively low amount of money to spend on that position, logically we'd have had more funds available if we hadn't signed Wijnaldum.

13.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 18:48:01
@Johnny the two aren't related.

We are still looking at fullbacks and if we can put together a deal for one of or targets then we will sign one.

14.) 29 Jul 2016
29 Jul 2016 22:48:15
This is why the Eds say don't worry about the money. The two transfers are unrelated in terms of finances. We had a valuation of Chilwell at a certain price, it doesn't match their asking price. No transfer.

We can't be mad about our club not spending money, and then moan when they do on players that fans deem surplus.

15.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 07:02:21
JohnnyR- I too see what your saying. Yes they're unrelated and I know money doesn't come into it as Ron said but you can't help but feel it strange that we throw £35m at Mane, £25m at Wijnaldum but won't throw an extra £3m to get our priority signing done. There's still hope though mate, still early days and Amavi would be a decent buy. Unfortunately it seems without CL footy the likes of Hector or Rodriguez may be beyond us at present. Do what I do mate and trust in Klopp, I think we knew all issues weren't going to be solved in one window anyway so keep the faith.

16.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 07:58:38
Phew, someone got my point, thanks Poolie. I get that transfers for different positions are essentially unrelated but if there is a limit on the total funds available then simple logic dictates if you spend big on one position then you have less to spend on others.

And I'm not getting bogged down in the money here, this rant is about us not filling key positions properly whilst over-populating others - we've bought 3 midfielders in one window!

17.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 08:24:18
All this stuff about a lost Chilwell signing, a reluctance to pay, and I am going to hazard a pretty decent guess that none of those making the point have actually really seen the lad play a decent enough amount of games to really make a judgement on him. It's hype, it's what they are saying at Leicester, etc etc. Now he may well turn out to be the quality player everyone is making him out to be but I for one will be honest and say I've not seen him enough to judge with my own eyes, and I base my opinions on my own judgement! Now maybe the folk inside our great team did that too and decided they'd seen enough to pay "x" but not enought to pay "y"! I'm not going to blame them for that. Now I have said I have seen GW play multiple times in the Netherlands in particular and I do agree with Ron I believe he will be our best signing and at a bargain price when I compare some of the transfers over recent years (Sterling £50m joke for example, but good for us! ) . Again I agree money stuff is totally unrelated we have done some good "outing" and more to come I suspect too. Moreno is a true liability, we know that, and he needs replacement but I'm not going to let that alone sway an opinion that really ought be based on seeing a player play more than a handful of games (eg Chillwell) if that! I am sure Klopp will sort the LB position out in a way he knows best - meantime I hope folk get interested in, and are content to moan at not signing, players for more than just "hype"!

18.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 09:05:28
There is a lot of people assuming the reason Chilwell didn't sign is because we wouldn't 'pay an extra £3m'.

We don't know that. Perhaps Chilwell's agent advised him against signing for LFC? Perhaps he thinks a better offer will come in if Chilwell gets some premier league or champions league experience? Perhaps Leicester are offering more wages? Perhaps Chilwell likes Ranieri? Perhaps Chilwell looked at how Ojo and Brannagan have signed new deals only to see their opportunities stifled by multiple new signings?

Answer is - we don't know. LFC not paying the extra money did not make him sign a new contract.

{Ed001's Note - Chilwell was keen to come, the only problem was agreeing a price with Leicester. We would not pay enough. That is all there was.}

19.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 09:37:04
And that Ed001 is my frustration with our odd transfer policy - we've spent £60m so far on positions where there wasn't a massive problem and that ultimately, whichever way you look at it, must restrict our options for LB which everyone agrees IS a problem position. Some strange Rodgers-era decisions still being made at the club methinks.

20.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 09:42:52
Ok thanks ed, well there must be a reason we weren't willing to pay it.

{Ed001's Note - yes, because we are still being headed up by people with no idea how football works.}

21.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 09:48:47
But pretty much anyone on this site, unless his dad or his Leicester coaches are posters, know that much about the lad, right?!

{Ed001's Note - it doesn't matter what we think, Klopp wanted him, the club should have done what it took to get him, like they did for a back up option in Wijnaldum, after refusing to do so for the first option, Zielinski. The club is still being run badly.}

22.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 09:52:30
L8- I did see A BIT of Chilwell but as he didn't feature much at all for Leicester nobody did. I made it plainly obvious I thought we could do better but the eds had big respect for the youngster, Klopp's advisors had big respect for the youngster plus he'd had quite an effective loan spell I believe soo I was willing to accept others knew better. Plus I have seen plenty of Moreno. The argument isn't really about Chilwell it's about have we done enough to give us the best chance of securing a LB? The eds have said all along that Chilwell was keen in coming the only stumbling block was our reluctance to pay the fee so the answer has to be NO in my opinion.

23.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 10:25:16
Spot on Ed 001.The hierarchy felt the money for Balotelli Benteke was value, utterly clueless.

24.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 10:58:53
Natural seems to think it does matter what you think Ed?! I agree entirely with you that it does matter what Klopp thinks and wants if he is charged with building the squad. The point I am making is that, despite what some on this site may think, really unless you are employed within the Liverpool coaching, scouting, etc network you really don't know what the reasons are you can only surmise! Well here is my piece of surmising: that Klopp is strong minded enough to have a decent say and that he was part of the "don't pay more without being certain" decision.

{Ed001's Note - he has no say in the money being paid.}

25.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 11:13:04
Whilst I am sure you believe that I am not so sure you know that is true Ed. my expectation and belief is that he won't make ultimate decisions but he will give a view that will be listened to and considered. From what I am hearing in this case, and yes it is only what I am hearing and am no more in the "know" specifically, even Klopp himself agreed that they knew little enough about the youngster first hand to pay that further element. Then you really only have to look at the personality of the guy to know he would diplomatically dig in his heels if he really thought it was apt to do so.

{Ed001's Note - yet this is the club that spent over 20m on Moreno. Sorry but Klopp does not set values, he asks for players and the club should get them. Any talk of his valuation is nonsense, he is not involved in the financial side of the club.}

26.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 11:23:15
I just find it so intriguing that so many people get frustrated about not signing a player that, in fairness, we really know very little about yet criticise the manager and clubs decision to bring in a player of proven quality, of decent age (25), and at decent value (£25m) in today's terms. Ok we definitely need a LB yes but we also need a squad with decent depth at at least equal quality. For me GW is better quality than May that will be vying for the same position and for me I know little about Chilwell. In both cases though our manager would have given a view and it is the former that is in the ranks now! Tells me quite a bit.

{Ed001's Note - I find it hard to understand why you have so much difficulty in understanding that we are already overloaded with players in the position Wijnaldum plays but have no left back worthy of the name. Yet we were happy to pay 250% more for a player we didn't really need than we were for a player we desperately need. It tells me a lot about your lack of understanding of the situation that you think Klopp is happy about that. You are basing your whole outlook on the fact that you know nothing about a player, rather than on the basic needs of the club.}

27.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 11:36:03
Klopp was not the manager when we bought Moreno. Was not when we bought Mignolet, Benteke, Markovic, and others that were very much a waste. He is the manager that was here when we bought Mane, when we bought (what I believe to be a terrific signing) GW and here when "the club" decided that "x" and not "y" was the right price for a barely seen LB. I personally think you are underestimating his persuasiveness Ed - I am not arguing that he holds the monetary purse in silo, but I do believe he has sway. Now if it is such that we can't hold any manager to account for what we spent then maybe Rogers wasn't so bad after all? After all he never paid those rediculous sums right he was just charged with making them work? No - really we can't believe that can we?!

28.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 11:42:52
I know a fair bit about one of those players and that player will improve our squad, you mark my words. I am not at all suggesting that we are not desperate for a left back I am just suggesting that you and everyone else on this site (including me) know very little about the reason for not paying the asking price for a player that we all know very little about!

29.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 11:44:27
We have a lot of strikers now! Would you take Suarez back? That's not overload right that's better quality?!

{Ed002's Note - But he squats to piss.}

30.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 12:20:12
That is still the frustration, we might go and pay more for the second or third choice on our "list" of LBs than it would have cost us to get the first choice. If Klopp wanted him and the people who do know about him/ football rated him then it beggars belief that the people who sign the cheques would rather spend more elsewhere for a LB based on their own ignorance.

31.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 12:27:56
Maybe he's not first choice, maybe he one of a few choices, ever considered that or believe all you read?

32.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 12:33:02
Good debate raging here! I know little about Chilwell to be honest so no idea whether or not he was the right choice but what I do know is that our midfield now has Coutinho, Firminho, Lallana, Henderson, Can, Lucas, Grujic, Markovic, Wijnaldum, Mane and Milner who would all expect to be in the first 11. Then there's OJo, Brannagan, Wilson, Stewart - add a keeper and you've got a full matchday squad (includung subs) of midfielders there. I'll say it again - we could have saved the Winajldum money and gone for a quality LB which anyone can see we're desparate for.

33.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 12:39:38
Personally I really believe there is so much naivety in what a number of fans say: "he's not our first choice so we opted for second" as a grand example or "he came out of the blue, we weren't in for him". Now ANY club worthy of being taken seriously ought have a number of relatively equal options considered for the positions the manager wants to fill. Moreover, the best ones keep as much of the information about chasing them undisclosed as much as possible - let's face it demand creates and dictates pricing, it is simple economics. So I put it to this site that there were a number and still are a number of options for consideration at LB and that GW is not so much a surprise internally as it is touted to be by fans on here. Naivety for me!

34.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 13:06:31
That all depends on whether you believe the others noted to be of equal quality as Wijnaldum, Johnny?! I for one don't believe a number of those you mention are fit to shine his boots. I've seen a lot of him and I was jealous that Newcastle got him last year. It is a personal view that I expect to be shared by others as his introduction is made. Moreover I expect there will be some more clear out - we've done reasonably well to date in that regard and at decent monetary income. I have absolutely no argument of the need for a LB but I do argue that Wijnaldum will massively improve our team, and thereby squad, and thus am rather her used that folk might consider him and/ or a LB an either/ or debate!

35.) 30 Jul 2016
30 Jul 2016 20:17:49
That's solid gold info from Ed002 😄.

36.) 31 Jul 2016
31 Jul 2016 06:01:57
L8 the very fact he is the first lb we put a bid in for suggests he was first choice mate. You are looking for conspiracy theories where none exist. The fact is the eds who clearly know a lot more about football and lfc have said klopp has no control of finances. We have seen players missed by this club over valuations over the years and usually because of some kind of misguided principles of not paying x for youth players etc. Wont be the last either so we suck it up and move on.

You also suggest the club knew little about chilwell, so why put a bid in then?

GW will not make a demonstrable difference compared to his price tag, average player who will help the squad, nothing more.

37.) 31 Jul 2016
31 Jul 2016 21:59:08
L8, your arguments make no sense. You seem to doubt but the info Ed is p voiding. If you do, please provide credible informs that debunks his. If you can't, then stop with the false arguments as your opinions are not facts. Also, your argument fails m derailed when you say the club knew little about Chilwell. Can you verify that? Do you have inside info to confirm that? If you don't then again, stop arguing because your opinions are not facts.

38.) 01 Aug 2016

Klopp wants five players pressing when we don't have the ball in the other half.
Five players pressing at high tempo equals injuries and fatigue. That is why he is overloading in midfield. What he does at LB is separate. Sadly we have a Bayern trainer who oversaw their worst injury run ever. Klopp may be taking the opinion that injuries are inevitable under his style of play and that he needs as many options in the middle of the field which is where he places most emphasis.
He's not buying players, he is putting together a squad of workers who can do the work he wants.

If he thinks midfield will cover the wing backs, we might be in for a difficult season. Again. If you see him using three at the back in October, you will know we are in for a very difficult season as that is not the plan he is laying out at the moment. And for all Sturridge fans, Origi will be the starting lone forward as S cannot play up top on his own. Expect two up top at home games.
