Hi all,

I don't post often, but read all of your comments every day.

I think one of our big transfer problems is that we basically have a first 11 that is almost set and unshakable. This may also be a blessing, as well as a curse.

Mane - Firmino - Salah

Hendo - Fabinho - Thiago

Robertson- VVD - Kounate- TAA

Alisson

The only positions that are available for someone to break into that 11 are Striker to swap with Firmino (as his goal-scoring record has dipped) and as a change for either Hendo or Thiago to add creativity or attack in the midfield.

Does everyone think the same or do you see this as a time for Klopp to shake things up?

Think the first 11 was always going to pick itself.

Think lfc will focus on squad fillers and potential at a guess I think waiting till later stages of the window, with the hope players value drop or clubs accept payment plans due to C.V. and finances.

Anyone bought was never gona start hence lfc taking there time and the need to move players on.

2.) 01 Aug 2021 14:49:24
The only answer is to bring back Countinho!

3.) 01 Aug 2021 15:31:16
I'm not sure our midfield is "set and unshakable" I'm curious to see how Klopp uses Thiago.

4.) 01 Aug 2021 15:51:37
Kopforever, I’d say that Henderson and Fabinho are unshakable as if they’re fit, they start.

5.) 01 Aug 2021 15:53:16
I think Jota will get plenty game time. I agree as well about Thiago his place is no where near set in stone especially if a signing is made.

6.) 01 Aug 2021 16:18:15
Not going to argue that 4V, agree with mark too jota will have more game time. He's quality tbh :-)

7.) 01 Aug 2021 14:37:58
I said the same thing the other day and ed 25 was buzzing off me for the mere mention thanks Ed Hahaha, I agree players coming in are aware klopp has go to men and game time for new players might b a problem . Like u mention though it would be nice for our manager to mix things up whether it be formation or different types of players. As the whole world an dog know how we play.

8.) 01 Aug 2021 16:41:35
Klopp made a major play for Thiago and went against what Fsg’s transfer policy was when we signed him. I expect Thiago to start a lot of games very similar to Fab and Hendo. They won’t start every game because sadly they will all likely miss parts of the season due to niggles.

9.) 01 Aug 2021 17:10:03
If we start the season well and Hendo and Fabs stay fit then Thiago should be in his element. I really liked how he played those last few games last season. Fingers crossed he smashes it next season.

10.) 01 Aug 2021 17:35:48
Our first 11 is quality and will match any team problem is we can’t play it every week especially when champions league comes around, my concern is city Chelsea and Utd have stronger squads.

11.) 01 Aug 2021 18:02:45
It's a sad state of affairs when the very recent world, European and English champions are looking down the back of the couch for transfer money. But you all seem very happy campers, what a lovely way to be, always super super positive.

12.) 01 Aug 2021 20:41:02
Waro, give it a rest, man. Your bitter and salty rants and anti FSG propaganda are so 2013. No one cares anymore and FSG don’t even know who you are BUT you can keep going at them as much as you like. Been at it for near a decade now and the salt and bitterness still remain. Sad way to look at life. And YES, many of us are happy with where we are even if we have to look for money behind the couch.

As for our midfield, Thiago, Hendo and Fab start when fit. That was the trio we started with at Everton last season before everything went to hell in a hand basket. I expect this trio to be the starters. Thiago is a true baller and with a preseason in his legs and full fitness, the guy oozes quality and class. I’m excited to see what he will bring.

13.) 02 Aug 2021 03:58:36
You would see Jota and gomez get almost same game time as thise first 11. If we buy bissouma and good forward like raphina. add those 2 to the list. next will be players like ox keita matip miller would be getting about half of 1st choice players. then the kids and if we still have them taki/ origi/ shaq.

14.) 02 Aug 2021 09:17:11
No no olired you've got me all wrong, I'm looking for lessons in super super positivity and completely ignoring obvious negatives, FSG? Gaud bless em and all who sail in em, super cracking set of guys with soccerball franchise LIVERpool's interests firmly in there hearts.

15.) 02 Aug 2021 20:41:12
Still weird, Waro. Still weird.

Just seen a report that 'suggests' that we have put in a bid for Kovacic. Surely this is lazy journalism, presuming that Macca is correct about Keita or does that suggest yet another twist in our summer plans?
(Presuming we had any)

Like you, I doubt that rumour very much, MDS. Kova is at Real Madrid, the best team on the planet where he has won 7 trophies in the past two seasons (and counting) and who is improving with every game as one player ZZ counts on. What on earth would he be doing here?

2.) 21 Aug 2017 23:17:26
No interest at all. Right ed?

{Ed002's Note - You would need to find another Ed to put words in the mouth of.}

3.) 22 Aug 2017 00:00:45
i hope so. he is one of my favourite players! but didn't Real just "reported" reject a bid from Juventus.

{Ed002's Note - There was indeed an offer which Juve thought would be successful that was rejected.}

4.) 22 Aug 2017 00:11:46
Bingo - he'd be playing more than he does at Madrid. Players have a tendency to want to play more than they are doing. Maybe it sounds familiar (Emre Can)?

5.) 22 Aug 2017 01:06:53
Well if Kovacic's lack of playing time persists this season as well, then we can sign him next season as replacement for Coutinho who will create a fuss later on anyways. Just to p*** Barcelona off, we should offer Real Coutinho and demand cash and Kovacic (if they want Coutinho) . Barcelona will look like utter fools then.

6.) 22 Aug 2017 05:42:44
@Ib

If Kovacic do come this window then that flat footed sideways passing midfield would look like world beater! If Keita isn't happening then Kovacic is an ideal replacement! And I ll go mad 😎😎😎😎😎.

7.) 22 Aug 2017 08:21:08
We Can't, are you Harry by any chance? Please, say no.

08 Jun 2017 15:49:08
Hi,
Two things.

1. Presumably, now that Southampton have accepted our apology, we'll attempt to re-ignite the VVD transfer, but doing it properly?

2. Are we still looking for a top class striker or do you think that Klopp will stick with Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Solanke and Firmino. plus Woodburn.

mydogskip

1.) 08 Jun 2017 16:39:27
Ed01 said that Peter Moore will be meeting with Saints Directors today to smooth things out and see if they can still do the VVD deal. Saints will do the deal provided we pay what they ask for. Can and will we do that? We shall see.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know if it is today, they will certainly be meeting. I think it is today, though I am not actually sure what day today is! Is it Thursday today?}

2.) 08 Jun 2017 16:40:53
We've publicly stated we've ended interest in VVD as part of an embarrassing apology. How would it look or be acceptable to Southampton if we now ask for that player?

3.) 08 Jun 2017 16:56:44
Things change and people go back on there word. at the end of the day we're all human and if the deal is right then i can't see why Southampton won't do business especially if its for 50 million plus.

4.) 08 Jun 2017 17:00:14
Been a long week has it Ed001!

{Ed001's Note - you could say that.}

5.) 08 Jun 2017 17:00:32
Great, so know we're meeting with Southampton's directors and trying to tap them up, hope we asked the Saints first.

6.) 08 Jun 2017 17:17:56
Soton could now charge the earth and say 'they had to let him go now because our approach destabilised him and he wanted to leave, but liverpool paid the proper compensation for what they did'. Hell of a lot easier for them to save face now.

Welcome to Liverpool Danny Ings. Looks like we are making our summer moves early to avoid getting involved in bidding wars for players we really want. Great signing no.2!

My question is - will we make a move for another striker? We now have Sturridge, Ings and Origi. Our system usually accommodates one up top with Coutinho/Lallana one side and Sterling/New bloke on the other.

1.) 08 Jun 2015 11:47:20
Hardly the moves people are hoping for given neither signing address's our current needs. I hope they both do well but it seems we're destined to repeat the mistakes of last year-. Adding quantity over quality.

2.) 08 Jun 2015 13:25:50
Swish

They will address our current needs once we start to move other players on from the club,although I do agree that we need to focus on other areas also. Two very good signings IMO as both have proven success in the PL. Give them a chance as I'm sure Milner will be a hit from the start and Ings will score goals but may need a bit of time to adjust to the step up and then we will probably see a player who bags us at least 10 goals a season which is more than acceptable. If he can score 11 for Burnley imagine how many he can get with better service from our midfield.

Full time reader, occasional responder.

Good assessments going through this thread. Really enjoyed reading all of them.
I think two things happened -

1. Klopp was obviously too loyal to older players who were part of the squad and
2. This allowed other teams to catch up last season as a result of this.

I agree that, as a result, we need a complete midfield rebuild. Quality players are either too old, inexperienced or just stay on the treatment table -

Henderson, 32. Incredible captain but knackered.
Thiago, 32, Incredible passer but always injured and age is a factor
Fabinho, 29, Looked a shadow of his former self for most of the last season.

I think Klopp's style of play and the demands it puts on players showed last season with the three above, and more.

Elliott has huge potential but the pressure can't be placed on his shoulders at just 20.

Mac Allister is a perfect fit for us and a bargain if reports on a c. £35m fee are to believed.

Thuram looks quality too, as does Kone. But where does that leave TAA? Surely a move into the middle is inevitable - he has all the right skills and his defending/ positional play leaves a lot to be desired at times.

For me, I'd move him into the middle, with Kone and Mac with the thought of using Ramsey/ buying a right back.

'Mainz Malik Makey'? Hasn't he been compared to Didier Drogba or perhaps Damien Duff. or maybe Andrei Arshavin?

Just explain this post as Donald Trump would. We have some bad guys, but we want good guys, but we're not buying any good guys, so we're stuck with the bad guys.

Is it 3 games to save his job or are they just finding their replacement at the same time so that a quick change can happen and therefore provide an immediate change?

mydogskip

{Ed023's Note - I don't understand the logic of keeping him for 3 games. Let's say we win those 3 and then lose the next 3, does he get a further 3 games to save his job?}
