Rumours of us interested in De Vrij is pretty cool, he's a classy player and in the last year of his contract could show value for money!

Puzzled Red

1.) 09 Jun 2017 13:53:08
He isn't that good, has injury issues and is slow, so fits in well in the Italian league.

2.) 09 Jun 2017 14:08:03
think De Vrij missed a lot of last season with a serious knee injury .

3.) 09 Jun 2017 22:15:26
His injury record through his entire career is poor.

01 Jun 2017 13:04:24
Funny, nobody seemed to mind us spending 50m euros on Roberto Firmino a few years back, but will kick up a fuss over us spending that on *insert rumoured transfer target here*.

Puzzled Red

1.) 01 Jun 2017 13:07:25
probably because we did not spend 50 million euros on him, it was around 33-35 million euros.

2.) 01 Jun 2017 13:14:28
With add ons it was €50m.

3.) 01 Jun 2017 13:18:59
If memory serves correctly, Ed002 had mentioned that after adding bonuses and agent fees, the Firmino transfer had cost in the high 40 Millions. Maybe 48-49 Million. I could be wrong.

4.) 01 Jun 2017 13:21:27
Every body did moan. Including th3 eds. I mean there was uproar for months rhat "yet again liverpool have overspent on an average player" and 5hat was only 35 mil. The same last year for mane 36 mil.

Whats happened that you all think 50 mil on an average player is acceptable.

5.) 01 Jun 2017 13:39:39
1. SusanBoyle your numbers are wrong I'm afraid. With add ons it was close to 50m euros

2. SuperMane, are you really saying Firmino is average? I despair! He's a top top player.

6.) 01 Jun 2017 14:57:58
Puzzled I think he is saying everyone was saying that at the time and in truth a lot were.

7.) 01 Jun 2017 16:11:34
you partly right that we may have to get use to spending vast sums on top targets, but for every Bale there is a mahrez who i think cost less than a million or even half that

Not saying i know what his attitude is like but he is a huge talent and cost peanuts. although quite expensive ones.

Hi Ed,

If we fail with Brandt, would we like to other left midfielders/ wingers for that position or is it that JK wants the players specifically.

For example, Lemar continues to impress for Monaco and plays in a similar role to Brandt.

Puzzled Red

{Ed002's Note - Lemar is an option Bayern Munich has also considered but Monaco don't want to lose him as they are in danger of losing others this summer. Liverpool has shown no interest in Lemar but another side who has were told they did not wish to let him go, I suggestet that Max Meyer might be an option but he is more of a Coutinho than a Brandt. Rafa Silva has again been watched by Liverpool - perhaps as a potenial option Julian Brandt. They were keen when he was at Braga and having only moved last summer Benfica would be looking for a high fee - but they do need the money and would accept a lower amount than his release clause.}

1.) 02 Apr 2017 20:08:54
I honestly cannot believe we are still scouting Rafa Silva, he is far too small for the Premier League and he isn't really talented enough to compensate for it. I am no pro scout but there so many more suitable options for the premier league out there.

2.) 02 Apr 2017 21:26:27
Rafa Silva / Lazar Markovic / Mohammed Salah. All look the same. Running all day with little to no end product!

3.) 03 Apr 2017 05:06:23
Salah has no end product? You might need to cast your net wider and have a look at other wingers than Insigne.

Rafa Silva has struggled since his move. A friend who is a big Benfica supporter tells me that while he has talent, he has struggled to apply it at Benfica since his move.

4.) 03 Apr 2017 14:02:03
Any news about Gnabry of Bremen? Wouldn't he be a good choice?

5.) 03 Apr 2017 14:06:07
Lazar Markovic is also a talent!

6.) 03 Apr 2017 15:37:36
Salah no end product? You probably need to stop being obssessed with Lorenzo and get out more to watch other wingers in the Serie A as clearly, you've never seen him play since he left Chelsea.

7.) 03 Apr 2017 17:45:37
Seriously unimpressed with Insigne.
What does Harry see in him? Bang bang average.

8.) 03 Apr 2017 18:41:32
Well Brandt dad/ agent said there is no deal in place for him to join Bayern. Hopefully that will give us a life line. I know a lot folks here are saying what is the big deal about him. You could have said the same thing about Mane when we signed him. He was not playing as well for Southampton as he had played for us, when a player for a system he can strive extremely well. You should not look strictly at stats in terms of goals and assists, but passing percentage, chances created, shot taken, and shots on target. A player could set up a 100 shots on goal, but if the end player does not finish how is that his fault.

22 Dec 2016 12:39:59
Talk about LFC looking at Gabigol (Gabriel Barbosa) - Ed would you mind shedding some light on what's gone wrong for him at Inter?

They spent a lot on money to sign him in the summer and yet he hasn't even played 90 mins yet. Was it due to the change of manager or is he simply not good enough?

Thanks and have a great Christmas holidays fella!

Puzzled Red

{Ed002's Note - He is not getting any game time and that has made him unhappy. Is is young and in a new environment and things are unlikely to change. A number of sides have shown an interest in taking him on loan - Palmeiras, Sao Paulo, Santos and Fluminense (but none from Brazil could afford to buy him nor pay his wages), Marseille, Las Palmas and Leicester. Wagner Ribeiro was in England and did speak to another English side about him. Liverpool has not spoken with his agent nor Inter about him at this time.}

I can already feel the ominous dissapointment on the site growing if/when De Boer is brought in.

A few of the pros that come to mind are:
- he's a winner (titles - albeit in a lesser league)
- European experience (champions league - although never further than second round I believe)
- Able to coach a team well under a club structure which delegates transfers and 'philosophy of play' to other staff
- Success working with younger players

Just a few that came to me

LATEST: Navy Keita will now also be joined by Indigo Martinez (Real Sociedad) to add more artistry to the team.

Talks are being handled by wonderdog sparky.

Puzzled Red

1.) 21 Jun 2017 18:40:40
Couldnt do any worse!

2.) 21 Jun 2017 19:45:00
Would not be happy with that business at all, the thought of it makes me feel blue.

Any chances of a title gone. Say Cyan-ara to the Champions League too.

Surely Keita would want to play every game to, and we have a loaded midfield. Klopp promised games to Grujic last season, can he make more Azure-ances about time?

Personally I think we would be better off going for Marko Marine.

21 Jun 2017 14:47:49
Navy Keita to join Arsenal! The gunners want to add more firepower to their team and see Navy Keita as their new midfield anchor. Rumours that he's about to jump ship are awash all over the internet now.

Puzzled Red

1.) 21 Jun 2017 15:32:07
I don't believe this, if indeed you are talking about Naby Keita.

He was looking to jump ship when UCL was not sure for RBL, so why would he now jump ship from a club where UCL is now assured, to a club in the Europa League? He also turned down Arsenal last season before joining RBL.

Smells a bit fishy to me.

2.) 21 Jun 2017 15:40:07
This is what happens when you trawl the press for pearls of wisdom.

3.) 21 Jun 2017 18:00:58
Wow my humour is not appreciated here at all! Far too high brow for you chumps! 😉

Try reading it again Zed, there's a few clever puns in there for you lad, after I saw a poster earlier on post about a "Navy Keita" joining Liverpool.

07 Jun 2017 20:12:04
The deal for VVD is over? Okay, move on.

What's done is done. The club have apologised and that's it. Really nothing to be gained from us all posting about 'how awful it is'.

Like ED025 (the speaker of sense! ) said we're not the first and we won't be the last!

Now, let's get Salah, De Vrij, Keita and Robertson done and sit comfortable knowing key areas are solved - any additional activity will be gravy.

Puzzled Red

{Ed001's Note - the world really is coming to an end if Ed025 is now a bastion of good sense!}

1.) 07 Jun 2017 20:31:03
DeVrij is pretty poor in the air, so how our scouts think he'll cope against pulisball is anyone's guess.

2.) 07 Jun 2017 20:58:07
Does Robertson solve left back? And is de vrij better than what we have? I'm not so sure but it stays close to my expectations of a hit and miss summer. Hit being players that are clear improvements on what we have and miss, the players that will have to prove people wrong. Thus far not many 'miss' players have proved people wrong so we can likely expect business as usual. Players like Robertson is definitely business as usual. Anyway I better pack it in, people will say I'm moaning for talking the truth, I will just pretend we're not a club in the CL.

3.) 07 Jun 2017 20:58:18
Sometimes ed25 is the only voice of reason on here!

4.) 07 Jun 2017 20:20:53
You've given him too much power 01, he's usurped you from your throne.

Rumour has it, he even has his own Facebook aprroatopn page, and it has more likes thanks Ed02s .

{Ed001's Note - that would only happen if he creates himself multiple FB accounts to like it through....}

04 Jun 2017 09:17:44
Reading through the banter and FaithinWorks has it spot on re Van Dijk.

Putting aside what Macca said about is changing out offer (I agree this is bad negotiating if true), VVD has gone to the highest bidder and at the rumoured price and salary, I think the club have made the right decision.

There is a BIG differenece between being tight and being sensible. We should not be held to ransom!

If City want to carry on massively overpaying year on year for substandard players (Stones, Sterling, Mangala, etc) then let them!

There is still value to be had in the transfer market!

Puzzled Red

1.) 04 Jun 2017 09:26:45
I am interested to see who City hires to manage their accounts. He must be a genius. Literally mocking every other club and UEFA.

2.) 04 Jun 2017 09:54:48
Sorry but you wrong VVD is one of the best CB in the league this is why Chelsea city and we are after him if city get him you can say bye to even trying to finish ahead of them.

3.) 04 Jun 2017 11:04:49
So we should be held to ransoms and play obscene prices which will then shatter our wage structure and mean we will need to soon offer all our players a wage hike?

No! You're wrong. I'm not saying he's a bad player, I'm saying we were right to walk away.

4.) 04 Jun 2017 11:11:04
Puzzled

I don't think we are the only club held randsom this summer. Arsenal has had an €90 mill bid turned down by Monaco over Mbappe and that's just one Example. They will also break their wage structure in order to keep Ozil and Sanchez.

5.) 04 Jun 2017 11:28:57
Subjectively, Mbappe is arguably worth that kind of expenditure. BUT the objective difference between that and our situation with VVD is that Arsenal actually pursued their target.

VIDs agent dangled him at us and spun a novel about him really wanting to come to drive the price up. I really struggle to see how others are missing the mercenary in all of this.

6.) 04 Jun 2017 11:24:16
Just to mock ourselves we'll end up selling Sakho to Southampton. Textbook us.

7.) 04 Jun 2017 12:24:31
I can understand the opposition by some, to buying overpriced players on ridiculous wages. But when come Xmas and Chelsea, Utd Spurs, City and Arsenal are above us, they will be on here saying why didn't we buy this player or that player in the transfer window.

8.) 04 Jun 2017 13:18:45
More no, the people saying that are more likely to be the ones who are complaining now. about everything.

03 Jun 2017 14:45:51
@Superman

You're trying to tell us Emre Can is average and should be sold to Juventus?

Funny how Champions League finalists would want an average player who's no good? 🤔

You're entitled to your opinion of course but I think you're way, way off!

Give Emre a new deal. Consistent is key! Let's not sell and change where we don't need to. Evolution not revolution.

Puzzled Red

1.) 03 Jun 2017 14:52:05
His deal will probably see the end of Henderson. The lad wants to be the first choice when fit.

2.) 03 Jun 2017 14:58:57
Doesn't every player Second coming?
Healthy competition bud 👍.

3.) 03 Jun 2017 15:06:45
Healthy Competition - Yes
But the lad doesn't want to sit on the bench when fit. It's shame as it's nothing to do with money and only regular game time. If so Hendo will have to start from the bench!

4.) 03 Jun 2017 15:26:58
The second coming is a quality album btw.

5.) 03 Jun 2017 15:33:57
There's enough room for both!

Frankly in Hendersons current state id by surprised if he'll be laying back to back games - meaning Can will get plenty of ga.

6.) 03 Jun 2017 15:36:07
Nah puzzled red, supermane must know more that juventus who are notoriously excellent in the transfer market. The guy is deluded. I'd suggest watching another sport or else just open your eyes next time we're playing.

7.) 03 Jun 2017 15:36:14
I don't think it's that simple - horses for courses (ie some games where we need more physicality may mean both play together) and rotation should mean Can and Hendo both get plenty of games.

I suspect what Can may be worried about is if we bring in Keita. then he'd need to be worried as extremely difficult to keep them all happy (and Gini, Lallana etc. )

8.) 03 Jun 2017 16:04:41
Can's contract stalled way before we had any interest in Keita. Can wants to play as a defensive midfielder while Keita plays elsewhere.

9.) 03 Jun 2017 16:10:17
Klopp rates him and so does Allegri. I am sure both fantastic coaches know more about a Can's qualities as a player than any random fan. Just give Can what he wants. If he has asked for a regular first team berth, then give it to him.

10.) 03 Jun 2017 16:15:11
Didnt say he was no good. Just nothing specual and 25 mil would be great for us.

Be wohldnt take anythung to replace

Did nothing all season until 1 over head kick and you all fell in love.

25 mil for him and 16 mil for oxlade would be superb.

11.) 03 Jun 2017 16:47:08
So Supermane thinks it will be good business to replace Can (our only real option at the base of midfield apart from an injury prone Hendo) with a bang average journeyman in OX who doe snot even know what his bets position is in his mid twenties. Thank God your influence is nowhere near the club mate. There will be riots if Can is replaced with OX.

12.) 03 Jun 2017 16:43:50
Lol how is Ox better than Can @Supermane?
Can atleast possess some attributes. Ox has nothing.

13.) 03 Jun 2017 17:33:59
I think the reported £25 million is pretty cheap in todays market, if its true.

14.) 03 Jun 2017 17:58:01
Can has only one year left on his contract so all you haters better hope he signs a new deal or we will be getting nothing like the £25m you want. Honestly, what happened to supporting our players?

@Jones

Why would Solanke leave Chelsea where he was set to go on loan to come here where he will then go on loan. Makes zero sense because it's not going to happen.

He will play u23s and be given a few chances in the first team, if he takes these opportunities he can stake a claim for the first team as well as in training.

We offered him this chance hence why he's joined .

Puzzled Red

{Ed002's Note - Solanke was not "set to go on loan" at Chelsea. He was unable to stay at Chelsea and they let his contract run down.}

Don't get the fuss about Tah either, very average from I've seen.

A player who looked good in younger age groups due to his physique. Rudiger and Sule are the better German CBs.

Digne is very poor. Has regressed this season. Barcelona went rid and along with Matthieu and most of the average players Barcelona have bough in recent windows (Umtiti, Digne, alcacer, etc) he isn't good enough.

On what basis are you sayin he'd be a good signing because his performances have been really very poor.

Sorry but no.

Fullback improvement (left back especially) has to be the priority. It is a huge part of our build up play, our fullbacks get time on the ball and need to be able to use right now we have no width from these two and as such the space in the middle closes up and it stifles our play.

This is the same reason Mane is so useful in it system in stretching the play wide and in behind and also why Salah is being targeted too.

Puzzled Red
