Hi Ed,

If we fail with Brandt, would we like to other left midfielders/ wingers for that position or is it that JK wants the players specifically.

For example, Lemar continues to impress for Monaco and plays in a similar role to Brandt.

Puzzled Red

{Ed002's Note - Lemar is an option Bayern Munich has also considered but Monaco don't want to lose him as they are in danger of losing others this summer. Liverpool has shown no interest in Lemar but another side who has were told they did not wish to let him go, I suggestet that Max Meyer might be an option but he is more of a Coutinho than a Brandt. Rafa Silva has again been watched by Liverpool - perhaps as a potenial option Julian Brandt. They were keen when he was at Braga and having only moved last summer Benfica would be looking for a high fee - but they do need the money and would accept a lower amount than his release clause.}

1.) 02 Apr 2017 20:08:54
I honestly cannot believe we are still scouting Rafa Silva, he is far too small for the Premier League and he isn't really talented enough to compensate for it. I am no pro scout but there so many more suitable options for the premier league out there.

2.) 02 Apr 2017 21:26:27
Rafa Silva / Lazar Markovic / Mohammed Salah. All look the same. Running all day with little to no end product!

3.) 03 Apr 2017 05:06:23
Salah has no end product? You might need to cast your net wider and have a look at other wingers than Insigne.

Rafa Silva has struggled since his move. A friend who is a big Benfica supporter tells me that while he has talent, he has struggled to apply it at Benfica since his move.

4.) 03 Apr 2017 14:02:03
Any news about Gnabry of Bremen? Wouldn't he be a good choice?

5.) 03 Apr 2017 14:06:07
Lazar Markovic is also a talent!

6.) 03 Apr 2017 15:37:36
Salah no end product? You probably need to stop being obssessed with Lorenzo and get out more to watch other wingers in the Serie A as clearly, you've never seen him play since he left Chelsea.

7.) 03 Apr 2017 17:45:37
Seriously unimpressed with Insigne.
What does Harry see in him? Bang bang average.

8.) 03 Apr 2017 18:41:32
Well Brandt dad/ agent said there is no deal in place for him to join Bayern. Hopefully that will give us a life line. I know a lot folks here are saying what is the big deal about him. You could have said the same thing about Mane when we signed him. He was not playing as well for Southampton as he had played for us, when a player for a system he can strive extremely well. You should not look strictly at stats in terms of goals and assists, but passing percentage, chances created, shot taken, and shots on target. A player could set up a 100 shots on goal, but if the end player does not finish how is that his fault.

22 Dec 2016 12:39:59
Talk about LFC looking at Gabigol (Gabriel Barbosa) - Ed would you mind shedding some light on what's gone wrong for him at Inter?

They spent a lot on money to sign him in the summer and yet he hasn't even played 90 mins yet. Was it due to the change of manager or is he simply not good enough?

Thanks and have a great Christmas holidays fella!

Puzzled Red

{Ed002's Note - He is not getting any game time and that has made him unhappy. Is is young and in a new environment and things are unlikely to change. A number of sides have shown an interest in taking him on loan - Palmeiras, Sao Paulo, Santos and Fluminense (but none from Brazil could afford to buy him nor pay his wages), Marseille, Las Palmas and Leicester. Wagner Ribeiro was in England and did speak to another English side about him. Liverpool has not spoken with his agent nor Inter about him at this time.}

I can already feel the ominous dissapointment on the site growing if/when De Boer is brought in.

A few of the pros that come to mind are:
- he's a winner (titles - albeit in a lesser league)
- European experience (champions league - although never further than second round I believe)
- Able to coach a team well under a club structure which delegates transfers and 'philosophy of play' to other staff
- Success working with younger players

Just a few that came to me

Hi Ed002, based on player valuations given by their respective clubs, which of Icardi and Bony is most viable? Admittedly they both seem to be pricey.

Puzzled Red

{Ed002's Note - I can only guess, but Bony I would think.}

29 Jul 2014 21:31:07
Eds after reading the rumour re Lucas leaving on loan to Napoli, I wanted to ask would the club seriously consider a loan offer for him? I hope we wouldn't be that naive.

We are not blessed with too many defensive midfielders and although some posters might say Lucas isn't the best there is, he is a good player and I think we need to be careful not to dismantle our whole team by adding in too many new players.

If a good offer came in that the club felt it simply couldn't refuse then that's different, but a loan deal? That would be stupid I think.

Puzzled Red

{Ed001's Note - last I heard the club were not interested in a loan move.}

MOTM - Firmino

Great game for the lad. He was everywhere and took his goal well. Great assist for Origi too despite the offside.

Mignolet also worth a special mention! Great save again from him.

Puzzled Red

1.) 16 Apr 2017 18:28:14
And the other assist that should have been for Milner.

2.) 16 Apr 2017 19:14:32
As it has been for so many matches this season.

21 Mar 2017 17:23:18
Why do so many on here always wants to sell our better players and fantasise over the large transfer sums?

"Ooooh what about £60m for Coutinho though. "

I am a football fan. I like football, not money from player sales.

We are not a selling club - at least I hope that is not what we've become.

To hear fans pining to sell our better players is saddening and backs up something that I've thought for along time now - the modern day fan is now more excited about transfer windows and fantasy football signings than the game itself.

Just look at the recent investment and developments around esports. It's a market which has exploded. The result? Fans wanting to sell out of form club players for the lastest flavour of the month star.

Coutinho has struggled since his injury. Hazard was god awful last year, did Chelsea sell him? No and now he isn't tearing up the league once more. Thank god JK doesn't listen to some of you on here!

Puzzled Red

1.) 21 Mar 2017 17:34:45
Tell me one year that counts had 25 plus good games he hasn't wats his best tally goals and assist wise nothing great wat some people realise is money for counts could be best placed else were to make the team better that's all like edo2 says players are just transient employes.

2.) 21 Mar 2017 18:19:32
Coutinho is one of the best players in the league and up untill his injury he was the best player. His form has dropped and now as the op stated some people want to sell him. craziness. you build your team around him because he is that good. Sell him to another side and when he becomes in the top 5 players in the world the clowns out there will question why we sold him. get a grip people. the lad is a wonderful player so let's appreciate him before he does move on to Barcelona or whoever and becomes a distant memory.

3.) 21 Mar 2017 18:42:09
Exactly Abo, it really is laughable.

Anyway, tell me Mike when has selling one of our players for mega bucks and splashing out on replacements ever worked out?

Carroll? Balotelli? Downing? I could go on.

4.) 21 Mar 2017 20:31:10
Can we stop with the "when has selling our best player ever worked out" stuff? Yeah, Liverpool has a bad recent history. However Klopp does not and he is now our manager!

He sold Gotze and signed Mkhitaryan. He sold Lewandowski and signed Aubameyang. He sold Sahin and signed Gundogan!

This is not Rafa, Comolli or Rodgers picking players anymore.

We have a new scouting team and a new manager making the final decisions. So let's not judge the current regime against past mistakes. Klopp sold Benteke for £30m and signed Mane. He sold Allen and signed Wijnaldum. He sold Skrtel and signed Matip. I'd say he currently has a fairly decent record of replacing first team players. Of the 4 players signed to play in our first team, only Karius hasn't settled in yet.

5.) 21 Mar 2017 22:25:28
This is all ifs and buts and when has klopp said he was selling Phil.

6.) 21 Mar 2017 22:25:45
Mk totally agree the thing is he's not are best player we don't play with a number ten he is played on the left witch his stats are not the best we have players that would do just as good as him at the club already klopp won't change his formation so all i've said is if we are offered 50 plus take it and spend were we need it spending for the great of the team ron keeps saying about when we sold suarez and bought badly that was not klopp do we all trust klopp or not with money.

7.) 21 Mar 2017 23:10:03
Of course he's our best player, he's just not on form. When Phil on his game we the best attacking side in that league.

8.) 22 Mar 2017 00:45:21
Puzzled. Thanks, mate. Post of the day

Unfortunately, it's a sign of the times that flashy dollars and status are just too important to people these days. Obviously that's a different conversation, for a different forum, but i do wish those views wouldn't leak into the football supporters world. Football should be a means of escaping that bullshe*p, 90 mins at a time. Talk about tactics, players, everything. But leave the fifa mentality on the xbox.

9.) 22 Mar 2017 04:12:22
MK Scouser and those agreeing with him/ her: I'm sorry, but it was Zorc, not Klopp, who recruited those players at BvB. Klopp is world class at coaching talent, but it was Zorc who brought in the talent.

LFC has no comparable scout or DOF. So, no, it's a bad analogy between LFC and BvB.

Coutinho, when on form, is one of the best in the world. Ankle injuries, if you've ever had one, are notoriously difficult to recover from quickly. He's obviously struggling with the injury still, given he's being brought off in games early.

There is no way in hell if we sell Coutinho we'll replace him with anyone near his quality. We need to *add* to our existing talent, not subjtract and then roll the dice and hope we score a talent as good as him.

No thanks. If having Klopp means anything, it means not having to constantly sell off our best players.

{Ed001's Note - well said. It is why Dortmund struggled to maintain consistent wins, the constant selling of their best players. You have to hold onto them to progress.}

10.) 22 Mar 2017 07:25:24

Poor comparison mate. Since BVB sold lewa, gotze etc, how many trophies have they won exactly?

11.) 22 Mar 2017 10:22:49
87red, Is that because they sold players, or because Bayern have just ruined German football by stockpiling all the best players in the league?

I can see you point Fear of the Red Planet but I don't agree with the ankle injury statement. His form is like this every season. He always has long baron runs with or without injury because he is being played in a position he is not really meant for.

I am not saying we should sell him, but I just refuse to jump on the "LFC are buggered" bandwagon if we sell Coutinho.

Throwing out random examples of teams who have not improved after selling their best player doesn't really wash with me. In our own league, United sold Ronaldo and continued to dominate for at least 3 years afterwards, an average Spurs sold Bale and built a title challenging side with the profit, Southampton sell their top 3 players every season and year seem to replace them with even better players who this year took them to their first cup final in god knows how long.

It is not impossible to replace your top players. Coutinho being our best player whilst out of position and struggling with form/ injury is more a worrying damnation of the rest of the team than a positive for him.

We should without a doubt try to keep him; which the club are doing. He just got given a record breaking contract. The counter argument that some are presenting though is that we might get an offer of £50m+ for a player who misses a quarter of every season injured, has never hit double figures in the league, and hasn't played to his best since the opening game of this season.

Of course we should persist with him if nobody offers stupid money. He is one of our top players. However his contract alone almost forces him into starting every game now, and in Klopp's current system he really is not justifying that regular game time or wage. You can disagree, but he has been embarrassingly hooked twice in a row now (with a long time still on the clock) for a 17 year old. So Klopp clearly agrees that he is not pulling his weight.

The only way I can see Coutinho and Firmino in the same successful side is if we put Couts in the midfield and sign a new left forward who scores a lot of goals. Otherwise we will just keep struggling to score for long periods of the season. Mane is our only player in the front 3 who I could see scoring a scrappy rebound or a goal mouth scramble. That is why in the tight games we struggle.

12.) 22 Mar 2017 12:27:33

You can't site what bayern have done as a reason for their failure to win a trophy - otherwise all other german teams might as well as give up if that's the case.

ask yourself this, if BVB still had all of those players - would they have a better chance of ending the bayern domination? absolutely.

you can't use united as an example either. their situation back then was so different to where we are. they were a consistent title winning team whereas we are building towards that. if you're winning titles, losing one player can be remidied. if you continue to lose your best players - torres, suarez, alonso, possible coutinho - you end up exactly where we are.

13.) 22 Mar 2017 12:41:15
MK, we have the best attack in the PL, period. So scoring goals is not our issue as our issues lie elsewhere. I do agree that Couts should be put in midfield as he is better there BUT out wide, he has still been solid for us and was on pace to be PFA Player Of The Year arguably (playing out wide) until the injury to his ankle came. An ankle injury just like knee injuries (I've had a sprained ankle and a surgically repaired knee and they still hurt, 5 years after), are very difficult to overcome and we can't even manage his full recovery cos he has to play as we are low on squad numbers, just like Can has to play with a bad calf.

Cos he's having a dip in form or taking too long to get back to gear cannot be the reason he gets sold just cos people are so short-sighted. We stick with him till he gets back to his best and that should be that. He's not getting sold EVEN for stupid money. Instead, we should get good players in to play with him.

12 Mar 2017 17:58:07
Oh ah Emre Can, oh ah Emre Can!

Get in lad. Not our best performance this season but a good battle at times and most importantly, the right result!

Roll on Man City and another big win.

Puzzled Red

04 Mar 2017 20:51:10
What a great game! Exactly what we needed today with the win and most of all the performance!

The big job really is for Klopp - how does he make sure we don't revert back to old ways against Burnley like we've done so many times this season?

Puzzled Red

1.) 04 Mar 2017 21:34:20
We've always been a good counter attacking side. Problem starts when teams happily defend deep and counter us where klopp has failed to adapt.

01 Feb 2017 11:16:15
Talking point of the game for me is our fullbacks.

JK asks his fullbacks to get very wide and provide a lot of his teams width. However in Clyne and Milner we don't have players capabale for that.

Both fullbacks just come inside. To be fair to Milner he comes inside and at least puts a cross in. Clyne cuts inside and has no left foot so just passes inside. He really offers no width.

He heavily relies on Mane to provide him the wide option as he cannot/ won't beat his man and go for the byline.

It's hurting us and needs fixing. Is TAA the answer? I'm not sure if he's ready defensively, he already offers more offensively though than Clyne.

Milner has had a really good go at left back and should be recognised for that but a left back coming in for Moreno to offer a left footed option there is needed.

Puzzled Red

1.) 01 Feb 2017 11:55:23
Yeah largely agree, I posted something similar further down, a lot is being asked from the full backs I feel, Mane at least brings real width down one side, this will help a lot, I don't think one full back being asked to be a wing back in this system is a major problem but both doesn't seem to work.

2.) 01 Feb 2017 12:27:40
I think that's an incorrect assessment, the full backs are always very wide unless we they are cautious about the counter attack.

The whole problem is Milner has no pace to beat a man so has to revert to cutting back on his right for a cross and I'm afraid we don't have the players to head it. Wijnaldum needs to get in the box more really. Along with Can.

If we had Ibrahimovic in our team we'd have been top of the league no doubt.

3.) 01 Feb 2017 13:39:46
Ibra is a lamp post who doesn`t and can`t do the work that Klopp requires of his CF so there is no way we would have been top of the PL with him. He`s at Utd with a more expensive squad that provides him with chances and where are they?

4.) 01 Feb 2017 14:07:06
The problem is, in Klopp's system, both fullbacks have an important attacking role to play. Our fullbacks are not capable. TAA looks very promising though and is already ahead of Clyne offensively - I would be starting him every game. Milner has done really well given the change in position, being on the wrong side, but it's clear his lack of a left foot limits his (and the teams) attacking play and fluency. As has been mentioned by Ed's and other posters Juanma (of the U23's) may yet make the step next season - time will tell.

5.) 01 Feb 2017 15:47:27
The manger opted not buy a decent left back and decided to keep Clyne at the club last summer. This is not a sudden development. What's the point in planing the players when they are not fit to your plans?

6.) 01 Feb 2017 18:44:47
Should Juanma be on the bench and maybe given some minutes during the run in if games are going our way. Might as well get the guy involved now if he's seen as the next possible left back.

{Ed002's Note - Ricardo Pereira (RB/LB) - remains of interest to both Arsenal and Liverpool. As I said before, don't hold your breath about Kessie moving to Liverpool. Nothing has changed with Murphy. Rafa Silva is not first choice for Liverpool so nothing has changed. Moussa Marega remains of interest. Azmoun is of interest but not keen on a move to Liverpool. Nottingham Forest are aware of interest from Liverpool and another EPL side.}

No Spud, I really don think signing Pickford would sort any goalkeeping problems that Liverpool have. Please explain to me what Pickford has the Karius doesn't?

End of the day Pickford has come on a lot this year because he has been given game time. Karius got around 10 matches at the start and then dropped.

We either sign a proven number one to battle with Karius or not bother, why stifle a youngester we already have in Karius for Pickford?

Rashford is a very talented player.

Origi does not play the same as MR though. His style of play is about using his physical presence more to hold the ball up, win knockdowns and bring others into play. Whereas MR is about running in behind and stretching defences. DO can do that to an extent but not as well as MR.

Both are good players. Worth noting DO has more goals than MR this season.

Short answer - no.

Southampton are the closest we have to a side like Ajax in the premier league.

This league is far too high pressured, young players are hounded by fans after a few poor performances and money rules all meaning any players that look half decent are poached to play for "bigger" teams.

Harry, we should buy another two centre backs?

Just like we did last year - Matip and Klavan?

Before that - Lovren and Gomez

And before that - Sakho and Illori

Etc. hasn't worked so far has it? Less is more.
