Question for Ed001: What do you think of the Endo signing now we're roughly halfway through the season? I thought we'd made a mistake in summer but I've been pleasantly surprised. He is not the quickest but he reads the game really well and seems to get to the second ball, and press opponents, very effectively. My only gripe is his passing can be a bit wayward towards the end of games when he's tiring but I think he has been the sort of midfielder we need. How do you assess him at this stage?

{Ed001's Note - I said when we signed him that I liked what I knew of him and had seen of him. He does struggle with the pace in the Prem and you can see him tire in the final minutes, but that will come with games. He makes a massive difference to the team, making it much more solid. In fact Livebird just sent me some stats about how much of a difference.

According to Sly Sports we have played 16 games with him and 9 without, gaining 2.8 points per game with and 0.3 without. We have also conceded only 9 goals with him and 19 without, facing many less shots and all of our clean sheets have been achieved when he has played. I can believe it as I think he is very good and we just need to keep him fit and healthy now for the rest of the season!}

For a player w/ o preseason with us, already 30, playing in PL for first time, I think he’s done really well
And while it would have been better if he had more pace and stamina, with the latter coming as he adjusts even more to the PL, perhaps he is as good as he is because he never had much pace to begin with and had to rely on good reading of the game, positioning, anticipation, tackling, closing down spaces

I do like it also once awhile he Fouls when needed. Too often I think our midfield was bypassed as we played too ‘cleanly’. We shouldn’t aim to foul but when we need to, we should to give ourselves a chance to reorganise and defend better.

Endo has been a fantastic. IMO has made the CDM recruitment a non-priority until the summer or possibly even the following summer depending how Baj continues to grow and mature.

What about Gravenbech Ed? I don't know what to say about him really. He looks very good when coming as a subs but when he started the match, he doesn't offer much. Him driving with ball forward is a good trait that can be developed but defensively he can be a bit of non factor.

First couple of games he was alright but since then he’s had fatigue injury though he hasn’t played much and it’s mid season and whether he’s started or come on as sub, he’s been poor
The recent Arsenal game comes to mind, the moment he came on, we lost our midfield battle and attacking impetus.

25 - we can go around in circles on this but for me he has done well to get himself up to speed in a short time. Is he prime fabinho? Obviously not. But for me I think he is saving us rushing to waste money on a CDM we don’t want in Jan and buying us time to see what we have in Baj and how he grows.
Ill take that.

{Ed025's Note - he has done well Faith...he has done his job, but i think we can draw the line at "fantastic" mate, a Rodri or a Declan Rice can be in that bracket but lets not kid ourselves that he is anywhere near that level..

Jota's movement is great mate. He is at the end of so many passes. He also has good chemistry with Trent. But he is so inconsistent with his passing and link up, it's a shame. Otherwise he would be one of the first names on the team sheet.

No one is comparing him to Rice or Rodri though Ed who, as you said, are "fantastic players". Endo has come in and provided what we are lacking in the team. On that front, he has been "fantastic" for us in that particular context. Are there better players out there who can do what he does better? Most definitely and you would be hard pressed to find a fan who thinks otherwise. But he has done a great job for us since coming into the team and he rightly deserves the praise that the fanbase is giving him now.

25 - all semantics ed. It's like saying Andre Gomes is the best middielder in the universe. and he may very well be the best midfielder in the universe for everton.

SO in the same way, Endo has done a fantastic job giving us what we've needed in that position that was an obvious gap going into the season!

Ed025 I hope your well mate. When you say “you can’t believe we are top of the league the way we have been playing” can you elaborate a little for me please? I think we have scored about the most goals, let in the least, had the most injuries apart from maybe Newcastle, bought in a whole new midfield, been on the wrong end of VAR decisions like the basket ball play in our area against Arsenal. Been playing Thursdays and Sundays as well as still in both cup competitions. Are you thinking of the 1 or 2 chances we give the opposition in lost games which is a result of us being so attacking? Very hard to have 25-30 attempts at goal every game and. It conceded any chances on the break. Be just a interest in your response as ever please mate as you’ve made it sound like we’ve played rubbish every game, had all the decisions in our favour, had no injury’s and played teams from the 3rd tier every week?

{Ed025's Note - you have not been rubbish DTD...just a bit boring, you have got the rub of the green in a lot of games with deflections and lucky bounces etc mate, even though you may not have had all decisions go for you when you have they have been game changing ones and have changed draws into wins and losses into draws, you do deserve to be top i would say and thats due to the quality of your forwards and the excellence of VVD and especially Alisson, for me the quality of the top teams has been poorer than i can ever remember which is why there have been a spate of shock results, just my humble opinion of course..

Jota doesn’t backheel it enough in the box for my liking.

On Endo the lads been ok. I think the Arsenal game was by far his best game and some of his passing between the lines can also be very good.

It was said on here that we needed a proper Dm to play as it would stop teams openly coming through our middle and it would allow us and our midfielders to play better.

Endo started and Dm against Sheff and the league games we’ve played with a DM are

Sheff Utd
Palace
Utd
Arsenal
Burnley.

Apart from Arsenal collectively as a team we haven’t played well, other midfielders who were meant to excel under a Dm (dom in particular) are struggling and we’re still being over ran in the middle.

This probably sounds like an Endo bashing but it’s not. The lads done ok it’s more that it’s not just a Dm fixes our problems.

Endo possibly gone for up to 5 weeks after Newcastle so it will be interesting to see who Klopp puts there. It’ll probably be Mac who will then get the brunt of frustrations when we aren’t playing well and exposed in the middle.

In what way you think we are boring is beyond me. We attack the opposition team who ever we play, commit players forward and create chance after chance yet you say we are boring. Words fail me. We’ve had game changing decisions go our way? lol Ed025 I love you to bits but your as bitter as they come me old fruit. If the major decisions had gone out way we would be an extra 5 points clear at the top.

I think Endo is turning out to be a shrewd signing. From my viewpoint his best is better than Fabinho's worst, and we were not seeing top level Fabinho for easily a year and maybe two. Endo is certainly not world class, but I wouldn't disagree with his having put in a few fantastic performances, till date. The occasional errors do happen but nowhere to the degree of a Nunez (aka "Captain Offside" and Captain Woodwork" ?) or a Salah. He's perfect for the bench if we get more ambitious and buy a better DM, otherwise I don't see Klopp sweating heavily over the position. Endo is proving himself to be an "iron man" of sorts: started 5 consecutive games in 13 days. The kind of stuff VVD and Salah pull off, on which everyone fawns over.

I’ve been impressed by Endo. His passing is better than people think he fizzes it through the lines really well. He got caught on the ball quite a bit against Palace but since then he pops the ball off much quicker.

He is much better in the air than you’d think with his lack of height and he even offers a decent goal threat.

He’s not perfect, maybe a bit slow but he reads the game well and wins most of his tackles so I’d say so far so good.

If his name was Endinio and he was Brazilian there would be much more noise about him.

Its a shame for Endo Ed1, as he is starting to get better with each game but now has to go away on Asian Cup. Hoping he can maintain his performance once coming back from Asian Cup.

Good to see Everton on the up and Dyche is getting the best out of the squad he has. I have to say I love your assessment of the Liverpool squad, always makes me smile (good old banter from back in the day) . We have about 2 or 3 who aren’t bad, a couple who are ok, about a dozen who are nothing special and about 10 who aren’t any good. I guess living in Oz I must be seeing the table upside down?

nobody labelled Endo world class, either. Endo for a guy written off from the off cos people don't know who he is (hence, must be trash cos footie is that binary), did not cost 115m and cos he played for a struggling Stuttgart team who btw, he helped stay up by scoring the goal to save them from relegation in the final game of the 21/ 22 season, has been absolutely brilliant for us overall esp. over the last 6 games.

Just look at his games vs Utd and esp. Arsenal where he more than held his own vs Declan Rice and he was fantastic (no, he did not just do alright) in that game despite playing the whole second half on a yellow card. Hence, Endo has shown he is a big game player and the occasion does not phase him. In fact the bigger the game, the better he plays, as both perfs. in both games showed. Really happy for him cos I never quit on him like many did and the best thing is, he will only get better.

Endo has been brilliant in the past 6 games esp. vs Utd and Arsenal where he more than held his own vs Declan Rice despite playing the whole 2nd half on a yellow card. Also, Endo is a big game player and and seems to play his best the bigger the games are. That's elite mentality right there, IMO. I hope he keeps improving and in fact, I think with the right coaches and players around him, he could even get better and better.

Agree Ed001, Endo has looked a far more natural fit at DM, and the team has benefited. Do not feel like a DM is such a priority now, which is testament to Endo’s performances, shame about the Asian cup.
