Just want to say thanks for that Ed, appreciate the time and effort you put in this week in week out.

Quite frustrating that we cannot seem to take advantage of City dropping points again.

{Ed077's Note - effort and Ed001 don't go in the same sentence unless there's a "lack of" ahead of the word effort ?

Thanks ed

Agree on the full backs and needing to play to our strengths.

I think we have looked good when switching to a double pivot and hope we give it a try when Jones gets back.

Thanks Ed01, frustrating read as like you said that feels a game that was ripe for klopp football. Whenever we pressed high it caused panic, but that was few and far between. I didn't enjoy the game at all. this possession game does not suit the players at all and the non Endo selection after being substituted at half time previously was bizarre.

A couple of other points - Vvd, generally ok but clearly with no dm had been told to close the forward. Once he was at right wing with a huge hole in our defence. That's rubbish tactics. Matip did this more often.
Harsh but thought gomez was lost when he came on. Should have started.
Diaz was frustrating, seems to try to do too much, although perhaps would work better with alexis further up and keeping it simple at times.

The sooner we get back to playing like we used to the better. Our game was built on high and wide fullbacks stretching the pitch and intensity that not many teams could deal with. Why we’ve moved away from this so much is beyond me. I understand the need to tweek and adapt but we’ve definitely gone backwards.

As for the dm role, completely agree Mac is struggling there and Trent would be no better. Doesn’t becj deserve a go?

ED1, I've have been wanting to ask you about this persistent on using Macca as a DM when everyone knows he is better playing further up. Plus, he does not seem comfortable at all playing there since the start of the season. Everybody can see it except Klopp and the coaching team. My guess would be we are trying to be clever again just like with the inverted tactics. It makes me wonder why would we go after Endo if the plan is to use Macca as DM all along. Do you know why Bajcetic is not in the squad ED for the last couple of matches.

{Ed001's Note - I believe he is just being given time to refind his focus and get his form back.}

Awesome stuff again, Ed01. I knew that game would be a slow burner the moment we started conceding needless corners from the off. Guys just looked confused and seemed to play the style that suited Brighton, IMO. Passing was wayward, the team selection was poor and we had our first bit of good play in the 40th min when we equalized. Not good enuff.

The slow, turgid stuff along with the inverted nonsense was doing my head in cos it will continue to hurt us and stifle players like Macca who is now getting roasted by our own fans for being poor and weak whereas, this is all the fault of the coaching staff for making him look that way. Klopp needs to stop this and stop it now and play Endo at DM even if in a double pivot with Macca and Szobo when out of possession.

We have a very good team right now that even tho is still improving, we don't need a lot to challenge this season BUT if the selection and tactics issues keep happening, we will have no one else to blame but well, Klopp. Lijnders is of NO interest to me cos he's nothing w/ o Klopp.

Thanks a million for the review ed1. I agree with you about everything but I’ll be honest watching I thought Robertson didn’t have a great game at all. I thought his distribution was off and he never seemed to be fully aware of what was going on around him. That sounds a lot harsher than it probably was. Admittedly being on the wrong side of the pitch for set pieces probably didn’t help but that’s a tactic I suppose. Admittedly, I was fairly frustrated watching the match and I only noticed the negative things from a lot of the lads. I thought they looked leggy after Europe. I thought Brighton looked leggy too. Just wasn’t a great game imo.

Thank you for the article, Ed.
I have to disagree with you on two things, though. (surprising for me)
I thought Alisson reacted really poorly for Brighton’s first goal. I don’t blame him per se - he shouldn’t have been playing as a fifth defender and it was fundamentally MacAllister/ Van Dijk’s error - but that shot was hit with no power and it trickled past Alisson in slow motion. He was otherwise great again, however.
I also have to agree with aoe about Robertson. Though Adringa is a fast and tricky player, Robertson was caught out too easily on one particular occasion, didn’t offer much quality in his deliveries, and then made a quite appalling error to gift Brighton their second goal.

Cheers Ed good review although I’m really finding it hard to agree with you on the tactics.

I do see what you’re saying but until we do play in the way that you suggest there is no evidence that it would be any better. In fact the odds are it would be worse.

The reason I say that is that I fail to understand why a manager as good as Klopp would not be trying different tactics/ personnel in training and then playing the tactics that get the best results. Why would he persist with something when there is another way that is more suited to his and the players style? Especially since it’s apparently so obvious to all! It makes no sense whatsoever.

It’s like you’re suggesting our manager is purposely sabotaging us or something.

There is obviously a very good reason why Mac is playing where he is and why the tactics are as they are. The results this season have been really good on the whole so that would suggest we are on to something too.

I do agree with you on some level but I can only think that the reason we don’t play the high press, high fullbacks style anymore is because it doesn’t work on the training ground so it’s not used on match days.

{Ed001's Note - why are you making up nonsense? The reason it is used is nothing to do with any of the stuff you have made up in your head. It is simply because Lijnders has convinced Klopp it will work. Lijnders has told everyone this time and time again.}

BP, the tactics don't work man. They simply don't and the receipts are there to prove it. Haven't you noticed that in games this season where we have played in a natural back 4 with no inverted rubbish, we have been a lot better defensively and teams rarely get big chances against us? Yet when we play this inverted stuff esp. vs teams who have the attacking to hurt us like Brighton, Chelsea (at the start), we tend to struggle. Come on, man.

As for the reason you gave for us not playing the high press cos it prolly doesn't work on the training ground, I have no idea how or why that would be a thing since we are a pressing team and have always been a pressing team. Also, we moved away from the press years ago thanks to Klopp's acceptance of Lijnders' recommendation. That's a head-scratcher, my friend.

So what we are saying here is that Jurgen Klopp, one of the best and most successful managers of the modern era is allowing himself to be sabotaged by Pep Lijnders? That he can’t see what everyone else on these pages can see so is blindly going along with it?

Hey it’s a game of opinions but I’m not buying that for a second.

None of us are there training these players everyday. None of us know what is said between Klopp and his coaches. Lijnders has said he believes it will work but what makes you think it’s all his fault and he’s convinced that weak minded fool Klopp even though it’s as plain as the nose on everyone’s faces that it doesn’t work?

I’m sorry Ed I just don’t buy it. It’s much more likely that they have tried different ways of playing and this way works the best. We can also revert to a more traditional system if we need to giving us another string to our bow.

You could be right Ed and my logical brain is computing it wrong but if that’s the case then I’d be very worried about Klopp. I would’ve thought if there is a better way he’d use it.

{Ed001's Note - why do you make these bizarre assumptions that no one has said? You are making some ridiculous over-the-top assertions that show complete ignorance of what actually happens in training. You clearly have no idea what they do, as you seem to think they are there trying out multiple set ups before each game. It is all very well having an opinion, but at least have some reality behind it.

They decided the way they wanted to go ahead of pre-season and then the training is set up specifically to play the way they want to go. They will work on tweaks, if there is time, ahead of each game, but it is rare that anyone will move away from a system due to the lack of time to prepare for a different way of playing. That is why we are stuck with this tactical set-up, not because of this bizarre notion you have of sabotage. Nobody has said Klopp is a weak-minded fool other than you. And you are just making nonsense idiotic statements to try and make others look stupid.

You are a happy clapper. You will never see anything other than what you want to see. It is just wasting my time when you try and discuss it, because you jump straight to these idiotic hyperbolic statements to attempt to make others look stupid. I don't want to bother any more discussing this with you. There is little point as you have nothing to offer other than twisting words and lying about what I have said to try and make me look foolish. I have no interest in that kind of conversation. So please just leave me out of it.}

Irish Rover, did you not notice that we played poorly and let other teams score first while playing this inverted tactics. In almost all of our games, we only starts playing well and winning games in second half the moment we go back to normal back four. Surely you can see that. Are we having good season? Sure, but for how long can we afford coming back from behind to win games? A top team won't let us do that for sure.

Edd001 it's been long enough. It's not changing unless we suffer a run if bad results. We've been forced ti change it through red cards etc this season, klopp has admitted we then looked better. The next game, its back to the garbage. Id also argue gomez is better at right back. Simply because he offers width, defends better ans his crossing is excellent at times. Whereas trent is asked to roam in and out and we become very narrow. If trent was asked to play his normal position again wed have a fantastic attacking full back and better width and crossing again but no you're correct, we're forced to watch boring slow football. We've a ferrari made to do 70 on German roads.

In regards to the calls for going back to the way things were a few years back, I would say that the only way that could happen is to bring Buvac back (which we all know is never happening) . What's happening now seems like a mish mash of some of what Guardiola is doing and mixed in with ideas from Lijnders and the rest of the crew.

If there is one thing that I wish Klopp would learn from Guardiola, is not tactics but the concept that a squad should be constantly being reviewed for evolution. Guardiola seems to be doing it all the time, and well. And we don't do enough of it, consistently. As far as tactics are concerned, I would simply ship Linjders out. Not blaming him for anything, I just don't like his involvement in tactics. So many things have his stamp on them, and it's producing this new over complicated slow moving football that makes it difficult watching.

There was a time we were feared by everyone because we were tactically superb in defense, midfield and attack. We're doing very well this season thankfully, but you can see teams do not fear us in any shape or form.
