Trent to take number 8 shirt?

I hope not. Because what he said about his number 66 and the kids who bought his shirt etc. That was pure class from TAA in his early years.

I don't necessarily disagree with you LiverpoolFC8, but personally, I'd give him a pass if he wanted 8. It would be really hard to resist especially being a local lad, but you are right. He did make the comment about kids who have his 66 shirt.

He'll take the 6 when Thiago goes imo.

The whole thing about doing it for the kids is just spin. He picked 66 because his surname is Alexander-Arnold. a's look like backwards 6's, hence 66. It's a vanity number, don't fall for the PR.

Babbity, that's unequivocally false and sounds like another made-up story just to bash TAA with. He was assigned that number by the kit manager when he first made his debut and he just decided to stick with it until now.

Every single story and account by his team mates, coaches, and managers portray TAA as a nice person who works hard in training and has his feet on the ground. Not sure why there's so many "fans" here who come up with stories and theories to prove otherwise.

{Ed001's Note - you are right Drac, he never chose his number at all. Kids joining the squad are not given a choice when they first join. There is a reason why Trent is always in the videos for the site involved in nice things, because he is always the first to volunteer to do anything. He puts so much work into helping others and is a genuinely nice lad, yet there is a constant ignorant abuse of him for being arrogant. It is sickening.}

and the "it's gone to head" claims are similar like what ed25 says about Trent. Don't get it at all, but sometimes assume that the locals have a bit more inside knowledge than us from around the world.

Anyways, the double-a #6 thing was an interesting take. Looking forward to Babbity validating that claim.

Edd001 trent on the pitch displays at time arrogance. No ones mentioning off the field. It's on the field and he has for all to see with others.

{Ed001's Note - if you say so. I think it is amazing how desperate people are to find a reason to slag him off that they will resort to making up nonsense like this. It is pathetic and utter crap.}

How does he show arrogance on the pitch?

Ed001 it’s like nearly every goal we conceded last season was put down to Trent. It took till about march for VVD to be pointed out and for me he defending was are major problem. Trent plays as nearly a right winger so will get caught out sometimes but the miles he runs every game is phenomenal and to be up there nearly every season with KDB with assists from right back says it all about. All the stick started with the clown Southgate dropping him because of his form when we had no defenders fit and his form was not even bad that season.
My mate a spurs fan and he all ways says to me if I was Trent I would come out and say I will never play for England while that clown is in charge.
I see somebody on here the other day say we should go for Walker has he is a better right back than Trent comments like that baffle me the only thing he can do that is world class is run fast he has all ways been caught out of position and sometimes his pace gets him out of it but for me without that pace he would be lucky to be playing championship level.

{Ed001's Note - it is just ridiculous. With fans like these, it is a wonder anyone wants to sign for us. They are just one step away from being the scapegoat and no matter what they do, they will then always be at fault for everything. People have taken to making things up now, like this arrogance stupidity. It is embarrassing. We are lucky to have a quality player like him come through the academy and have his feet so firmly on the ground. We should be backing him over that bell Southgate, who is a clueless waistcoated gimp with all the football knowledge of piece of roadkill. Instead the fans turn on one of our own.}

@Babity, Yikes. That's a new one. I have never heard that story before. So tell me, how long did it take you to make that up and use it to slate the poor boy since some on the thread esp. ED01 have royally debunked it? I'll wait.

@Ed01, I saw a podcast where the guy literally said that LFC fans hate their own players the most and I did not believe it UNTIL now with what Babbity said about Trent and the cooked up story he said about him. Like you said with fans like these, who needs rival fans hating on our players whereas our players do a bang up job of that already? Good grief.

@Grino75, that is exactly what I think. The witch hunt against Trent started when the Waist Coat hung Trent out to f-dry in that dreadful excuse of a presser before the England game. Right there, the knives were out for him and it went on and never stopped. If anyone thinks there was no witch hunt against Trent is literally showing their ignorance. Walker? Those who want him can go watch him play at the club where Pep dumps his old arse to. I'm not having City's sloppy seconds and old rejects, sorry.

To be fair walker he's improved tremendously in the last few years and is one of the only right backs who can man for man mark mbappe and vinicius. We just need to buy a younger profile of him and out left hand side wouldn't be targeted and Trent into midfield otherwise we will always have the chink in our armour at right back.

I agree with Ed1 regarding TAA. My line of work brings me in to contact with many well known faces, footballers not least amongst them. On the several occasions I have encountered Trent he came across as approachable friendly and polite. in marked contrast from several of his England team colleagues.
As for the 66 debate, I would not be against Trent changing numbers. Many great players are associated with specific shirt numbers, 7 has been worn by Suarez Keegan and Dalglish for instance, but they loan the shirt until the next incumbent. Trent has an opportunity to literally make the number 66 shirt his own. Imagine at the end of his career to be known as the world class, one club local lad who wore the 66. Truly iconic.

Trent should be taking Hendersons place and armband in the very near future, if not by end of this season then next for sure.

TopG, I disagree. I have never rated Walker since his Spurs days cos he lacks any type of footie intelligence. Take away his pace and what does he offer? I'll wait. Also, notice Pep only used him vs Vinicius and other pace merchants and not vs nobody else. You think that was by accident?

Also, him marking Vinicius and Mbappe is just cos these guys are absolute pace merchants first and foremost. If you can match their pace on the outside then, majority of the job is done.

On the other hand, Sadio Mane in his pump used to torture Walker for fun cos Mane did not just have pace. Mane was a fantastic one vs one demon, very tricky with either foot who could go either inside, outside, cut it back, link play etc. An absolute animal and Balon D'Or-rated hence, Walker's worst nightmare, IMO.

And I do not want any player that is similar to Walker in any way on or off the pitch. His character issues are thru the roof and I think we need a player that actually fits the way we play as in intelligent, technically sound players with a good footballing IQ, all the things Walker lacks, IMO.

OliRed calm down. You're acting like I accused Trent of mugging old ladies. I said he picked his shirt number for vanity. Yeah, pretty much all players do given the chance, just like how Mac Allister picked number 10.

As for being "royally debunked", I actually respectfully dispute what Ed1 said about academy players not being able to pick their first-team numbers. Obviously they are not given free rein to take their pick of some of the smaller numbers but at least some of them are given a say to a certain degree. Harvey Elliott is on record saying he chose 67 because he wanted the number next to Trent because he thought it would look cool down the right wing.

Going back to the "for the kids" thing. You have to appreciate modern players get a lot of PR training. Just because a player says something, doesn't make it so. Saying "I keep it for the kids" is a better answer than "Cos I like it". And judging from the comments, it works perfectly.

{Ed001's Note - Elliott was not an academy player.}

Babbity, I have no proof that you made that story up, I will admit that openly BUT I doubt the story cos I've never heard that version before. Not sure you can say he picked the 66 no. for vanity either if you weren't in the room nor have the full in, formation cos all you are using to challenge Ed's story is suppositions, IMO. That's all Im saying.

Oh and one last thing. If I insinuated that you hated Trent then, Im sorry as that was not my intention. Peace and Love.

Yrent has had his up and downs the season gone but that doesn't help when klopp is changing the right side cb every other game. and having harvey on the right mid was a disaster as he never covered trent going forward or helped him defensively. but TAA is quality and captain material. Seems a lovely guy to me so I ain't bashing his character. We should blessed to have him.

18.) 19 Jun 2023
19 Jun 2023 18:30:19
Don't disagree with any if that Oli but we do struggle against pace merchants particularly when they target the left hand side. Regardless of if Trent was linford Christie or not there no way he's catching a speed merchant when they have 20 yards on him. That's my reasoning for having him in midfield and a specialist right back.

Alexander Arnold is spelled with capital 'a's.
Or the 'a's could be for Alcoholics Anonymous or a vehicle breakdown service.
