All the reports this morning seem to be saying that we have walked away completely from the Andre transfer. No interest in going back in in January.

Seems like a strange choice if true. Feels like the ideal signing even if we have to wait until January.

Any insight Eds?

The wait for the "Right player" continues then. We will see how we fares against Bruno / Joellington / Tonali this weekend.

I really hope that Gordon/ Klopp are willing to admit that getting a new Sporting Director is a priority once the window closes. The last 6 windows have seen us go from capable title challengers to top 4 hopers.

100 percent agree FlyPelicanfly. There seems to be a massive amount of indecision running through the club. Are we selling or not? 3 month DOF contracts when the knew for ages Ward was leaving. Now we have indecision on player negotiations. The Lavia negotiation was a good case of that. Could be all be a series of bad luck events but far more likely is the club are a mess behind the scenes. I massively want a world class DOF to straighten the ship.

We can still have a successful window if we get 2 more of the right additions in my opinion but regardless the DOF is still required. And it must be a world class one to compete on our strategy vs the Man Citys of the world.

Much reaction to speculation. Respectfully, The player wants to win the Copa with his boyhood club. Waiting a few months makes little difference, especially since Thiago will be good for a few games.

@Monkey - spot on. Stevie G is a club legend cos he chose to stay. Same difference with Andre, he wants to win the Copa Libertadores with his club. It’s hardly a secret.

The last decent transfer window we had was 2018. Off the back of bringing Van Dijk in January we followed up with Fabinho, Alison, Shaqiri and Keita (he didn't work out but on paper was a great signing) .

Since then (excluding the current window) we have sporadically signed some great players but we have not had a great window. Of those great players, Konate is the only player who regularly starts and does not play in the forward line.

It felt like came into this window with a plan and made a great start by signing Mac and Szobo but then out of nowhere we decided to sell Hendo and Fab with absolutely no sensible plan to replace them. I'll back Endo 100% but I would rather have kept Fab even after his poor performances last season.

For the 10th window in a row now we look to be strengthening our attacking based players and saying 'it'll do' at the other end of the pitch.

The only report I’ve seen on this comes from a Brazilian based journo whose actual words were ‘Liverpool MAY walk away completely’…nothing more than speculation, not even an opinion. I think he comes in January with Endo/ Baj doing the work in the meantime and Thiago cheering them on from the physio’s table.

I think between Endo, Bajcetic, Macca, Jones, Thiago we should have enough options at the base of midfield until January, but the critical factor is picking a balanced setup, and Trent staying at RB in a traditional back 4.

Here’s hoping we go for more balance this weekend and take the win.

Why can’t we just go and get Doucoure.

{Ed002's Note - It is not as simple as that.}

From the outside looking in, I'm not sure having Schmadtke at the club has been any more beneficial than not having a Director of Football at all. Thankfully he's only here for the summer, and I'm sure things will change once we make a better appointment in that role.

Been about as good a transfer window as we were likely to get. Mac and szob nice additions to the squad. Endo ok time will tell. The rest of it is a complete shambles. Top 4 if we are lucky. Million miles away from city now.
Won't be anymore signings unless it's kelvin phillips on loan.
Poor for me.

That's the mad thing. They knew that Ward was leaving 6 months before the season ended. I understand that they interviewed candidates. They saw Vivell join (and leave) Chelsea. They saw Monchi join Villa. They saw Freund join Bayern. They saw Steidten join West Ham. Yet we ended up with Jurgen's agency stablemate on an short term contract. Who is running the club?

The only hope is they have a really good one lined up who was not available at the time. But I have no faith in that. More likely Dave Fallows gets promoted into the role after a bit of Schmadtkle mentoring on deals over the summer.

I have to agree. Transfer window of late has been a complete shambles. I know there’s a week or so to go and adding Szoboszlai, Macca and Endo is great but to not add anyone else will be a partial failure of a summer transfer window where we were led to believe it would be huge. If we don’t get a recognised No6 and CB, Klopp and Jorg need to accept responsibility as they’re the ones who are apparently identifying targets. I’m actually glad we didn’t sign Caicedo now as I think IF we had, there would be nothing left in the pot for anyone else. It’s all too quiet. Going after targets like Gravenberch and Doucoure are all very well but leaving it late will hamper any chance as their clubs wil need time to sign replacements so they just won’t sell them.

Spot on, Monkey Magic and WDW3.

OP, I don't believe that. Ed02 has said on here repeatedly that Flu do not want to sell Andre until their Copa Libertadores campaign is over and they cannot get a replacement for him anyway cos the Brazilian TW is already shut.

Hence, January would be the more ideal time to do a deal for him. This is not just Ed02 saying this. It has been all over the web and even many outlets saying he has agreed personal terms with us reportedly.

I propose we wait and see come January to see what happens before sharpening our knives for a DOF and going after him when he prolly has no control over what Fluminense does with their player. Heaven forbid a player actually has the desire to win their version of the CL, a competition every South American player dreams of winning. Embarrassing.

My original point was that Liverpool are said to not be interested if they need to wait until January.

I 100% understand their stance of Fluminese and I would be happy for us to wait until January. What I don't want is for us to walk away because we can't take him now.

The reactivity here is off the scale.
Klopp has had as much to do with transfer market inactivity as FSG, and chose to stick by players like Naby and Ox.
Sometimes we simply can't compete with the big guns, hence we rely on players that really want to come like Dom and Alexis.
If we don't buy Dacoure its likely because he is overpriced and Palace can't find a replacement in time.
We are unlikely to win the league doing business this way but the books look great )

17.) 23 Aug 2023

I think klopp would have a hissy fit and threaten to quit if we got a half decent competent dof.

18.) 23 Aug 2023
23 Aug 2023 16:07:32
Which big guns though? Are Arsenal and Chelsea big guns to us now? Im not moaning bout transfers or anything but is that seriously what fans think, that we can't compete with these kinds of clubs.

ShipleyKopite, I fully agree with your point and your concern. My post was not aimed at you specifically, to be clear. I hope we don't just walk away from Andre either cos he is well-thought of and highly-rated so we shall see.

Like @Monkey said, the OTT comments and scapegoating the DOF today or FSG tmrw for any deal that may not get done or things out of their control is jsut stuff I can't be arsed about and is quite embarrassing at times.

We have spent around £110 million this window. As far as I am aware we have sold players for around £52 million - so far.

To be honest this is about normal for us and that is why I don't expect any more incomings - midfield or elsewhere this month.

I do think this will leave us short and it will likely come back to bite us yet again. To me it doesn't feel like we are putting down markers to the rest of the PL that we are ready to compete hard enough.

But we have a new training complex, increased ground capacity, and a growing commercial business which has moved us up in the money league.

So we have a successful business, but right now an unsuccessful PL team.

I like our owners, but with them I don't think we can consistently compete at the very highest level.

People make assumptions based on wild rumours and then when the rumours don't turn into reality they point the fingers at the club claiming people are stupid or aren't doing their jobs properly.
It just highlights how many people believe the crap they read about transfers.
Clickbait sites do a roaring trade at this time of the year.

23 Aug 2023 18:47:30
@Habibi, it’s interesting that you try to criticise the club for trying to bring in the ‘right’ player’. Would it feel better for you if we brought in three wrong players or would that provide more ammunition to criticise the club? Strange.

{Ed025's Note - i dont know why you answer these trolls WDW, you are only encouraging them mate..

Is right, Davey. It cannot be bad luck. If it smells like dysfunction, it probably is dysfunction.

What is more frustrating is that not too difficult to fix.

Leeeeeroooooy - correct we did, but we didn't win everything losing out on the 2 biggest prizes, and finished outside the CL spots for the first time in years last season. Why? Because we decided not to invest in the midfield area.

I think most would agree that was a mistake and highlights why we are not able to compete consistently with the mega money teams.

Nothing to do with short memories, We've won 1 PL title in 33 years.
