Paul Joyce has claimed we are seriously interested in Inter right back, Denzel Dumfries. He will be available for just 25 million euros due to a release clause in his contract. That's a good price for a very good right back, but he is 30 years old.

Hughes M.O "buy out clause" so probably got legs.

Good price and fine player. Just seems out of character for FSG to sign a 30-year-old, although wouldn't be their first.
I'd be waiting for Spuds to get relegated and go Gray or Porro. I also like Kayode a lot. Maybe we are saving the funds to replenish the wings.

Porro cannot defend.

Kayode is good, but would be 3 times the price of Dumfries. Denzel offers experience and quality for a low fee and has 3-5 good years in him.

SirBobby, I'd guess that may be the club's thought process. We need to heavily invest in the wide attacking areas and in a top midfielder, so signing a right back because Bradley is injured will need to be sensible. We can't commit massive amounts of the transfer budget to a position where we already have 2 players.

I know people will say it's not our usual way, but when an opportunity arises, we do tend to take it.

Lambert, Toure, Milner, Klavan, Adrian, Thiago, Endo and Chiesa all spring to mind as cheaper and older market opportunities in FSG's tenure. Varying levels of success for sure, but with Dumfries it does feel like he's built for the Premier League. He's a big unit with a deceptive turn of pace. Other than Lambert, I'd say all of the above played their part in some good moments for our club.

Makes sense. Assess Bradley without rushing him back.

Age profile adds some xp, to fill in and compete.

Fully agree MK, I don't know if Denzel offers leadership/voice but we are crying out for some players willing to do the hard yards and the dirty work.

Not many in our squad you would want in the trenches.

I think it makes sense. Get someone experienced to give Bradley and Frimpong time to recover properly and build up. Then hand over and be backup in a year or 2 as Dumfries gets older.

I don't think that trying to become the Dutch national team is a recipe for success.

Just sign the entire Dutch team to compliment Slot and his pedestrian approach to football...

Wouldn't surprise me if we signed Memphis Depay and played him at CDM for 350k a week. Well, it would, but these are odd times.

Let us not let current issues blight an entire nation of players.

We have had success with Dutch players in our side many times.

Isn't Inter interested in Jones? Could be a swap or Dumfries plus cash for Jones.

{Ed001's Note - haven't we already got enough injury prone right-backs?}

25 mill for a guy that played about 17 games, just turned 30!! Liverpool would be nailed on mugs to do that.
You could get
1. Arnau Martinez for max 12-15m, can also play centre back.

2. Ivan Fresneda for roughly 12m.

3. I think Vanderson for Monaco would be a decent shout.

And maybe Dedic for Benfica. Either way, Liverpool need someone that can play 3 games in a row without needing intensive care because it's ridiculous - just someone steady and consistently available, id say is far more important for that back line.

Have to agree with Postklopp.

One of the biggest issues we've had on the right-hand side this season, in my opinion, is the constant rotation.

Due to injuries and availability, we have been flip-flopping between Bradley, Frimpong, Gomez, and Dom.

This has been a massive problem.

It causes disruption in the back four, and I don't think it has helped Salah's form either.

My preference would be to sign someone (if we do sign a right back) whose fitness can be relied upon to give us some stability as a starting point.

Tbh,
The more I think about it, the more I like it.
Could do a lot better.
However, for the reported 22million pounds, he has big experience at club level (multiple finals) and also internationally (World Cup, Euros).
I'm not sure he's a leader as per se. But we do need 1 or 2 older guys that have seen it all and done it all before. Who won't buckle in pressure moments.
He's also 6'2".

Physical specimen. Great engine. That power and pace is what we've lacked this year big time.
He's got 3 good years in him. Only just turned 30 last week.

It allows us to spend elsewhere most importantly, a good bargain to bring in another body in an area that needs reinforcements. The injuries are a concern, but he had ankle surgery so hopefully that's the ankle injury taken care of.

The club just needs to sign a proper right back. One in his mid twenties-ish, who is proven, is reliable, is able to defend and doesn't have constant injury problems. Whatever that costs and whomever that is, is the one to purchase. It's not rocket science, it's what we need.

17.) 24 Apr 2026
24 Apr 2026 17:46:45
Dumphries is too old and he's been injury prone over the last two seasons with this season being particularly poor. Would be a rubbish bit of business. As if being linked to Randal Kolo Muani wasn't bad enough.

Picard would say, " Make it so".

19.) 24 Apr 2026

This reminds me of when Man City went after Maicon, who was another attacking full back at Inter (ironically), and similarly around the age of 30. Apparently, to all and sundry, he was the best around, but as soon as he got on the pitch in England, he couldn't handle the pace of the league and was getting pelters every week.

That's what we'd get with an over the hill full back from Serie A. Don't make it so. Leave well alone.

20.) 24 Apr 2026
24 Apr 2026 18:48:06
Being 30 doesn't bother me. Being injury prone is the worry.

Ability wise, I think Dumfries is a good player.

I wouldn't do it simply because of injuries.

21.) 24 Apr 2026
24 Apr 2026 19:51:54
Awful idea. Injury prone. Not what we need given what we already have at our disposal.

I suspect Joyce is only mentioning it because we asked in January when Curtis was linked to go the other way.

A nothing burger, imo.

22.) 24 Apr 2026
24 Apr 2026 20:59:24
I'd be going for Oscar Mingueza on a free, can play across the backline in a Joe Gomez type role.

If I was gonna sign a Dutch rb who's recently had injuries it would be Read.

24.) 24 Apr 2026
24 Apr 2026 22:55:35
Kayode or Fresneda, both forward thinking and decent defensively. Anyone else isn't worth looking at. Dumfries is a crab.

25.) 25 Apr 2026
24 Apr 2026 23:43:04
Few bob for them two, Jerry. Just makes Bradley's injuries all the more frustrating. Not top class every week, but has had enough special performances to know that there could be a top player there.

26.) 25 Apr 2026
25 Apr 2026 06:45:30
Fresneda 12m?

27.) 25 Apr 2026
25 Apr 2026 07:51:27
Hardly "a few bob". That's Robbo value, and Ivan Fresneda is a Spanish U21.
