What is the situation at present with Woodburn re a loan arrangement?

If he ships out out to Sunderland next few days, I would say that is a barometer that we have a Coutinho replacement on the way in. If not, he is here to cover if needed.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect that Liverpool will hang fire until at least Salah is available and they know what is happening with Ings. But I susepct he will get his wish for a loan in the end.}

Is it his wish then Eds? I must admit as soon as Coleman got the job at sunderland I expected either a bid or a loan move.

{Ed002's Note - He wants game time.}

How good was Douglas Costa tonight? I know we shouldn’t judge on 45 mins at the WC- but pace, power, crisp quick passing, positioning to shoot. Played in the right so Salah’s position, but I am sure he could play across the front 3. Linked heavily before and tonight I saw why.

I won't go too overboard because he was up against Nacer Chadli, but he did make good use of the acres of space he was given.

MK you can only beat what’s put in front off you. Agree though 😊.

I've always liked him as a player, very underrated if you ask me and the little cameo's he came on in for brazil he done a lot more than Jesus and Willian combine.

I have a vivid memory of Michael Owen sitting on the bench as an unused sub, in an away leg Champions league qualifier in 2004. He couldn’t/ wasn’t to be used so that he wouldn’t be cup tied for real Madrid’s campaign in the same competition as his transfer was being conducted simultaneously.

Fast forward 9 months and the unbelievable happened with a team that has a fraction of the ability we have now.

It would be poetic justice if lightening was to strike twice here with Coutinho- I bet when Michael is counting his money, he would wish he could have been part of Istanbul. But Countinho does not have that heart- no concern for weakening us mid year- just the here and now for him.

Let's take things one step at a time and look forward to beating Porto first mate.

2.) 05 Jan 2018 18:01:13
I wish I had seen Owens face that night in 2005 when stevie g lifted old big ears. Never understood him leaving but never forgive him joining man utd.

{Ed025's Note - dont be bitter mate.. :)

3.) 05 Jan 2018 18:17:56
I was also gutted but when you look at the options available to him at the time I think it was west Brom or utd. He made the best decision for him and his career.

You also need to look into what happened when he went to Madrid. The deal was in place for us to bring him back but when Newcastle offered a huge fee Madrid were never going to accept what they paid for him.

These are his own words. I think sky did a documentary on him where he explained everything. It changed my mind about him and you can understand the reasons even though part of me is still gutted about the utd thing.

{Ed001's Note - his words were the usual bull that comes from the little gutter rat.}

4.) 05 Jan 2018 18:10:48
Bitter is my middle name ed025 lol.

{Ed025's Note - you support the wrong club then mate.. :)

5.) 05 Jan 2018 18:46:16
Michael Owen “was” involved that night in Istanbul he was in the little tv studio box, seeing his face at the end was almost as good as seeing Gerrard lift the cup. Sorry if I’m bitter (not sorry)

6.) 05 Jan 2018 18:46:01
LMAO Ed01 opinion on Owen is obviously not going to change anytime soon.

Still sniggering at that one, love it.

7.) 05 Jan 2018 19:19:57
Owen is a little runt. Just my opinion.

8.) 05 Jan 2018 19:22:07
Couldn’t care less I’m afraid. Yes he was a top striker, and played a part for us through some good times. The leaving to RM for titles and trophies I can accept, going to Newcastle I don’t mind, we didn’t want him, fair enough, but the second he put that Utd shirt on he was completely dead to me. I don’t care what he says about best options at time etc. Any person, player, coach manager whatever that had even the slightest shred of love for our club would never ever do that. It literally makes me angry talking about it. How he has a role with LFC is beyond a joke. Now I’m not a typical tribal footy supporter. I have a healthy respect for Utd as the other great British team aside from ourselves. I. e. got where they are through means other than just rich owners, but any of our players that puts that shirt on does not have our club in their heart, so neither should they be in ours, and I’m sure Utd supporters would say the same if the scenario was reversed.

{Ed025's Note - only the bitter ones westwood..

9.) 05 Jan 2018 21:44:26
Owen was/ is a disgraceful human being. Arrogant and wrongly assumed he was bigger than the club. Great goal scorer in his prime but a team player he was not.

With Can having “reached an agreement in principle” - allegedly- do the Ed’s think that this now becomes a bargaining strategy with us and others, or is he committed to going? In real li employees frequently resign with an alternative job offer, and then effectively blackmail a pay rise and stay.

I think the Italian league might suit him better as he is maybe too slow - on the turn particularly- for the EPL.

Liverpool7

{Ed002's Note - Why try to complicate everything?}

1.) 05 Jan 2018 18:32:31
He will be a top player in Italy. Look at pogba He is not all that good in the prem but looked really good at juve.

Usual morning of countless Coutinho will or won’t he rumours. I love the guys ability and game changing genius moments, but I have had enough and want this over.
By Klopp not able to confirm he will still be here by Feb 1st, it has to be a real possibility. But I cannot believe that Klopp will sanction that ( if he has the power to do so) unless he has a like for like replacement. Therefore I would suggest that there may be something in the Lemar rumours- similar versatility across the front line, so would be good fit.
So the theory would suggest if we can do that deal in Jan, Countinho can go- if not he stays until the summer. The Countinho fee would cover Lemars and a big portion of VVD- and who could argue we wouldn’t then be an overall stronger side.

1.) 30 Dec 2017 12:54:51
I think it better to get done in the summer for both teams and players as both will be cup tied for the champions league.

2.) 30 Dec 2017 12:56:27
I hope Coutinho stays until the summer but if he goes in January I would rather have Julian Brandt than Lemar, who would be far cheaper and is a very good footballer.

3.) 30 Dec 2017 13:17:20
Brandt is indeed far cheaper to Lemar both in terms of price and quality. Brandt has been overshadowed by Bailey at Leverkusen. He is not even the star there let alone would he ever replace Coutinho. Lemar is class. Vision, touch, goals and precision!

4.) 30 Dec 2017 13:19:53
I very much doubt the Coutinho fee will cover the whole Lemar cost and a "big portion of VVD transfer. " Swapping Coutinho for Lemar will be break even and even that will depend on the number and amount of each installment to be paid.

5.) 30 Dec 2017 13:53:40
Backwards Henderson, Lemar is a very talented player no doubt in that, I feel Brandt would suit us better in that deeper role that Coutinho occupies and can also cover on the flanks in the front 3 when it comes to rotation just like Coutinho does. It would be hard to replace Coutinho with like for like quality but to say Brandt is far cheaper in terms of quality as you put it compared to Lemar is a stretch.

6.) 30 Dec 2017 18:50:44
People need to forget about the money swapping stuff as none of us know what the owners are doing and the Ed's for good reason, don't talk money on here and long may it continue.

Harry, Brandt plays in the no. 10 now while Bailey and Belarabi (who I rate) occupy the wide areas now so the comparison is false. Brandt would be my pick as he is IMO, the real deal. Don't know much about Lemar tho he is very talented. Klopp wanted Brandt from jump anyway, way before we got Salah as Brandt was his first choice. Will we get him now after he rejected us in the summer? We shall see.
