Not too bothered about drawing City, there are no easy games at this stage and we are more than capable of beating them over 2 legs. We've been their bogey team over the past few years.

However, the thing that annoys me the most is that we will have just 48h of rest between the Merseyside Derby at Goodison and the 2nd leg at the Etihad. City will have 3 days of rest between the Manchester Derby and the 2nd leg (both at home) .

Do we rotate/ rest players against Everton or play our first XI for both games and risk injuries/ fatigue? We can't afford to drop points in the race for Top 4 but the 2nd leg of Champions League quarterfinal should always be the priority.

1.) 16 Mar 2018 13:13:44
At this stage, you get who you get and go out there and play your hearts out, end of. If you wanna be the best, you got to beat the best. No ifs or buts about it. This is why Klopp came here and why VVD and Keita came here and why other players will wanna come here.

We are back in the big leagues now and this is not the time to shrink. This is the time to rise up, be brave and courageous and thank heavens, we have a manager who is proven in Europe in kicking ass and taking names. We go out there, leave it all out on the pitch wit NO REGRETS. Exciting times, guys and gals. Let's Go!

2.) 16 Mar 2018 13:57:57
We'll smash them first leg anyway.

3.) 16 Mar 2018 14:00:15
Derby been moved to the Saturday now . not the draw I wanted but it's cup football now . We know we can beat them but we're well aware they can beat us too, hope we can do it but I'm nowhere near confident about it 🤞.

Rewatching the match, Lovren had a good game until he inexplicably ducked/ missed a header that allowed Gundogan to make it 4-3.

Nevertheless, he put in a solid shift as captain. One of the Eds (Ed 1 if I'm not mistaken) has mentioned how he thrives under responsibility. Hope he does well and pushes through the personal problems he faces in life.

On a side note, it was hilarious and awkward to see him hold up Firmino's shirt to the crowd when they were celebrating the 2nd goal. I guess he was trying to show some solidarity and support for his frontman but it looked so comical..

1.) 15 Jan 2018 17:48:22
He was responsible for the 3rd Man City goal.

2.) 15 Jan 2018 18:29:08
Does it really matter when Lovren lead us to a win against the team who had not lost one match this season in the League?

3 points, job done. Stop complaining.

3.) 15 Jan 2018 18:29:57
That is exactly what he said.

11 Jan 2018 12:21:51
I just realised something that has been pretty much overlooked as a result of Coutinho's departure. Mane's going to get more game time now. He's been a bit off form since that 89th minute introduction against Chelsea.

That being said, his form has improved, with some brilliant goals and assists in recent matches. Hopefully he'll get his head down and be more motivated to continue the improvement. We need him to be fit and firing if we're going to push for Top 4 and beyond.

Happy with the 2-1 win with VVD scoring a memorable debut goal. Looking back at the Firmino incident, pretty much everything has been said already.

However, I'm a little surprised Firmino was having a go at Holgate in Portuguese. He's been here for 2.5 years and you'd expect him to use English. Haha. Was he expecting Holgate to understand his Portuguese insults?

To be fair to Firmino, it was in the heat of the moment so he probably just went with what he's comfortable with. In any case, calling someone a son of a bitch is pretty tame compared to the abuse hurled by fans to the players. I think the FA's investigation will come out to nothing more than a warning.

Onwards to Man City!

1.) 06 Jan 2018 10:26:29
I don’t think that Firmino should get a warning, since it implies that he’s guilty of the charge of racially abusing another player. If anything, Holgate should be up on a violent conduct charge.

{Ed025's Note - not attempted murder then?..

2.) 06 Jan 2018 11:01:26
If you're heated you use your native language without thinking surely?

3.) 06 Jan 2018 11:18:08
Should have been a double yellow. Firmino is my dude but shouldn't have reacted so strongly. Holgate was a bit lucky not to get red considering the penalty.

4.) 06 Jan 2018 11:11:11
ed025, he shoved a player into the crowd. It doesn't matter if Firmino was hurt or not (which he wasn't), the thing that matters was the intent.

Definitly at least a yellow in my eyes at least, and I could see it be given as a red on other days.

Remember players getting carded for a high boot even if no harm was done? Its sometimes down to the increased potential of causing injury and I would argue that shoving someone into the crowd when they don't have the ball (and the ball is dead) is exactly that.

Red Sandman.

{Ed025's Note - the game is going a bit soft imo sandman, yes it was a bit silly and possibly reckless but at least it gave the game a bit of an edge which was sadly lacking before that, im not condoning what mason did by the way mate..

5.) 06 Jan 2018 11:14:20
Is this real life? Like seriously.
He's been in England 2.5 years he should be speaking English.
And that's why we are in this situation. English people are so ignorant that because they can't understand something it's automatically something racial has been said because I don't understand it.

Holgate threw him into the stands and when we realised what he's just done. He thought he said something.
My partners fluent in Spanish and She knew what he said. This is crazy.

Every player uses profanity on the field. But because half of a country couldn't use their brains it's racial?
This is a joke.

6.) 06 Jan 2018 11:42:53
Gallows for Holgate Ed025 ;)

{Ed025's Note - absolutely mate.. :)

7.) 06 Jan 2018 11:55:48
I feel like it's only in the UK we complain about the game going soft, it's like we have to compensate for the lack of technical ability by going physical, yeah a push and shove here ain't all that to get riled about, but when we want to see higher acts of physicality lauded and praised, I think it just shows the difference between England and the other top European countries. Of course Wales are amazing we got to the semis and we decided to go on holiday to a nicer place than Russia in 2018 ;)

8.) 06 Jan 2018 11:58:47
I thought the ref handled it well. It's the derby and there's bite. Don't condone it either but these things happen.

9.) 06 Jan 2018 12:48:42
I’m sorry Ed25 but if he had gone head first into a camera or a hard surface and cracked his skull open you wouldn’t be making those jokes. That moron Holgate endangered another player and the crowd. If you want to say it’s a contact sport and ignore fact then fair enough. I love your banter but you can’t sweep that under the carpet. It’s kinda like going 2 foot from behind which In some cases may break a players leg but luckily it didn’t happen. I guess you’re used to watching your thugs take out the opposition cos of their lack of talent and have become de-sensitised to it.

{Ed025's Note - is his skulll broken swish...i never heard that...look if someone got injured then you have a case, they never so your case holds no water, i hate all these iff,s and butts...

10.) 06 Jan 2018 13:03:32
If calling someone "son of a bitch " is racist, then 90% of American's would be guilty of it. It is a phrase often used over there, with no insult intended.

11.) 06 Jan 2018 13:09:46
lol it's usually the Ed talking about tinted specs but he's definitely got his on over this. The fact that he didn't get injured means nothing and I'm sure they will look at the lack of action taken by the ref during the enquiry into the incident.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think i have den, did mason deserve a yellow card..probably, did bobby racially abuse not for me...are liverpool fans overreacting..YES, thats not tinted glasses thats the truth..

12.) 06 Jan 2018 13:19:16
Ed does blood need to be drawn to make it valid? Clear intent to injure another player and it could have resulted in far worse. When cantona lashed out was that moron hurt? No but cantona got a huge ban for his intent. On the flip side mane made a challenge against a keeper with zero intent and gets a red card-. You tell me which is worse, the one who deliberately went to injure another player or the one that did it by accident in the spirit of the game. As per usual in evertons plan they couldn’t even ge that right :p.

{Ed025's Note - your saying holgate deliberately tried to injure bobby???, how the hell do you know that!, yes he shoved him swish but to say he done it with the intention of causing him harm is ludicrous and you are talking through your arse, its nothing like the cantona saga where he DELIBERATELY..yes DELIBERATELY tried to cause actual harm to the supporter, i hope you are not looking to forge a living as a lawyer mate as your just not cut out for it..

13.) 06 Jan 2018 14:56:09
Players get booked these days for going to the crowd to celebrate a goal. So I’m surprised Bobby wasn’t red carded for actually going into the crowd, considering how letter-of-the-law referees are.

14.) 06 Jan 2018 23:44:01
People don't push people over for no reason mate, ok did Holgate want to put Firmino in hospital? Probably not, but he pushed him over the billboard stand thing and we've seen some brutal injuries coming from players collision with that billboard stand thing.

15.) 07 Jan 2018 16:09:54
Ed, it’s clear he deliberately pushed bobby, while he was off balance, off the pitch. What didn he think would happen? A foam wall would magically inflate to cushion the fall? There was nothing accidental about that push-At the very least it’s an off the ball reckless challenge which is a red card.

{Ed025's Note - he actually shoved him to stop him retrieving the ball and taking a quick throw in swish, he was not to know that with him having poor balance that he would topple over the small fence, (that last bit was tongue in cheek) he had no intention of hurting the guy and for you think otherwise would be very silly or worse vitriolic, look it was not that big a deal and bobby squaring up to him was not either, some people just look for things to moan about because they have little dicks..

04 Jan 2018 22:37:26
It's been a good week for the Reds. 6 points gained from a come-from-behind win against Leicester and a 94th minute winner against Burnley (with Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal all dropping points) . And of course we signed VVD.

Let's hope the Coutinho situation would be resolved sooner rather than later and we smash the Bitters tomorrow! That being said I'd take a narrow 1-0 or 2-1 victory.

1.) 04 Jan 2018 23:23:50
A win tomorrow and a conclusion to the Coutinho saga, and I will be one happy red. I really thought we'd drop points in one of the games this week but we won them both. I tell you, a year ago we wouldn't have won both of those games, now the team has just improved so much mentally as well as physically I believe.
That's some deep stuff there gentlemen.

There's no point worrying about 'what ifs' in previous matches. I think we're in much better position than Chelsea. If we perform up to our usual standards against Newcastle and Chelsea lose at the Etihad, we'll be 7 points clear.

We just got to take things 1 game at a time. 10 games, 10 cup finals.

Max, it's harsh to say that City rely on Aguero to get the goals. They also have Sane, Sterling, de Bruyne, Jesus etc who are all in double figures for the season.

Agree with you Indian. I feel like we are short on the wings. When we had Coutinho, we could afford to rest/ drop one of either him, Salah and Mane for rotation/ injuries/ dip in form etc.

Now that he's gone, the drop in quality on the wings is significant (if 1 of Mane or Salah is rested or dropped) . Lallana, Ox, Firmino and Wijnaldum could play there but they are nowhere as effective as Salah and Mane. In any case, I think these players are much better suited in other positions.

Woodburn could be given a run but he's still inexperienced in the PL and should only be eased in. I doubt Ings and Solanke could play out wide.

Torres scored 24 league goals in his 1st season. If I'm not wrong, it still is the record for a foreign player in his debut season.

Barring any dips in form or long-term injury lay-offs, Salah is on course to breaking that record.
