Seems like Klavan is off to Cagliari. A little sad to see him go. Solid and dependable option off the bench and always gave 100%.

I'll always remember his 94th minute winner against Burnley. I was sat at the Bob Lord Stand and the abuse I received for celebrating his goal was worth it 😂.

Gave his all for the club everytime he played fair play to him. Does anyone else think it’s a little risky letting him go. We will need to rely on Matip who is probably our 2nd most injury prone player, Gomez who has had some serious injuries in the past and Lovren who is currently injured. Yes we have youth but it’s a tall ask relying on one of them if the s##t did hit the fan.

2.) 17 Aug 2018 11:09:19
I think the emergence of Nat Phillips has changed the picture a little bit. And there is also Connor Masterson. If injuries to starters did happen, we would probably be lacking in the experience part, but certainly not enough players to play the position. Gomez, Matip, Phillips and Masterson as backups is not a lost cause. If VVD is injured or rested, Lovren and Masterson can play his position. If Lovren is injured then Gomez, Phillips (and even VVD) can back him up. At some point, you have to give the U23's their shot and test them.

3.) 17 Aug 2018 11:37:29
You also need to remember that Fabinho or Wijnaldum can play there too if absolutely needed. I was actually impressed with Gini when he played in defence.

4.) 17 Aug 2018 20:34:54
EpicPotato, Fab can play RB, not CB and Wiji cannot play CB even tho he played in a back 3 vs BHA last season, a team that did not bother to attack us last season. That's not going to happen this season, I can guarantee you that. Just saying.

West Ham seem to be building a pretty decent team, our first game of the season might not be so straightforward. Especially with players returning from World Cup duty.

Anyway, Lucas is sheer class. He posted a thank you and good luck message to Felipe Anderson, wishing him all the best in the league except against "my Liverpool".

He truly is an adopted Scouser, just like Kuyt, Garcia and Agger.

Yeah but not just going to click straight away. The midfield is still weak and fabianski in goal is hardly de gea. Full backs are poor. Just an average team thinking because they have spent money there buying quality 🤣🤣.

2.) 15 Jul 2018 15:10:39
They do ths every season buy a new squad.

{Ed0333's Note - I think the OP’s point Tim that this year west ham are doing a better job at recruitment. Pellegrini is no mug. I have love for the guy I hope he does well although west ham were a curious choice for Manuel. But I suppose if you dangle a carrot big enough....

3.) 15 Jul 2018 15:22:43
If we get all our targets they have no chance!

Alisson/ Karius
A. Arnold/ Gomez
Lovren/ Matip
VanDijk/ Klavan
Robertson/ Moreno
Fabinho/ Henderson
Keita/ Milner
Fekir/ Lallana
Salah/ Shaqiri
Mane/ Chamberlain
Firmino/ Sturridge.

4.) 15 Jul 2018 15:25:38
It worked well for Everton last year.

5.) 15 Jul 2018 15:32:50
That would be the best "2nd 11" i've ever seen at Lfc VakPa.

6.) 15 Jul 2018 15:36:53
Even if we don't get Alisson or Fekir VakPa, we'll still do them. Their team need time to gel and even then not much will change for them, they haven't really bought top quality have they I mean they went and bought Wilshere! fingers crossed he plays when we play them.

7.) 15 Jul 2018 16:27:16
I'm just amazed they're even spending that much dosh. I was convinced it'd be another summer of excuses for the fans to stomach, so fair play. I don't necessarily think it'll see them pushing towards the top, just closer in the right direction. Burnley finishing where they did and the league finishing as two clear divisions shows there is definitely room for a couple of teams to really push to be the best of the rest and build from there.

If Silva and Pellegrini hopefully come in and show the rest of the lower teams that there is more than one way to play, ie actually trying to be proactive and not settle for draws, it'll only be good for the league. There was a lot of rubbish last year which really did not give credence to the 'best league in the world' tag that is bandied around so much.

8.) 15 Jul 2018 17:04:41
When has anything in the prem been straight forward!? When will we learn!?

9.) 15 Jul 2018 17:50:57
Lucas is awesome, didn't he sort out our Champions League final training facilities? What a legend he's turning out to be, and from where he was after a year at the club it's a true testament to his character.

22 Jun 2018 20:57:27
Shaquiri with a 91st minute winner sign him up ASAP 😂😂

Knew he was muscular but didn't realise that he was built like a short Ronaldo 🤔.

sibsama

1.) 22 Jun 2018 22:00:35
Like Ronaldo if he was a hobbit.

2.) 22 Jun 2018 21:46:54
I quite like him as a player but i find the way he distanced himself from his Stoke team mates last season dispicable. We don't need that in our team. If half the onion is rotted, it's a rotten onion.

3.) 22 Jun 2018 22:00:35
Like Ronaldo if he was a hobbit.

22 Jun 2018 02:12:27
Away from the usual transfer speculation, I'd like to wish Emre Can all the best in Juventus. He may be slow and and limited at times but he always gave it his all. Never moaned despite being played all over the pitch. Especially under Rodgers.

He was instrumental alongside Henderson in our ill-fated run-in to Basel and even played through injury in the last few weeks of the 16-17 season, helping us secure Champions League football once again.

sibsama

1.) 22 Jun 2018 05:37:15
I certainly always liked Emre, and that goal against Watford, WOOF!
But a £14 million signing on fee, plus wages of £220,000 per week?
I really don't think he'll be missed that much and it makes me happy to say that. I'm sure he'll do very well in Italy, all the best to him. Now, moving on.

2.) 22 Jun 2018 06:41:20
Agree JM, that's crazy money. I thought he was leaving as he thought he wouldn't be a regular starter, but it seems the money was a big factor. Good luck to him, as I don't think he will be missed.

3.) 22 Jun 2018 09:06:46
220k a week? i thought it was 4m a year?

07 Jun 2018 16:34:38
I'm not saying we'll sign either Alisson or Oblak but I'm a little curious as to why they'd want to leave their respective clubs.

Alisson has established himself as Brazil's no. 1 after a fine season with Roma where they made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Roma has a really talented squad but are still way behind Juve and Napoli so I understand why he'd want to leave for trophies/ joining a big club etc.

Oblak is a curious one. Does he want to leave Atletico and if so, why? He's playing behind a solid and settled back 4 brilliantly organised by a dynamic and passionate manager in Simeone. They have consistently challenged for the league title and European competitions in the past few seasons.

Can any Ed confirm or deny his interest in leaving Atletico (doesn't have to be to us)? The only reason I can think of is wages but even that seems unlikely.

sibsama

{Ed001's Note - money is not that good at Atleti compared to what he could get at the likes of Chelsea plus he would get a large signing fee.}

1.) 07 Jun 2018 17:46:53
And with Alisson ed, is it still the money involved making it a tough one to get done.

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

2.) 07 Jun 2018 18:07:58
Lol why would anyone move to England if not money? A physical league and poor weather added with physical huff and puff football! Except Liverpool and City who does actually play FOOTBALL!
You double the wages and even Messi would move lol.

3.) 07 Jun 2018 18:39:26
Liverpool will sign Alisson for around £55m.

4.) 07 Jun 2018 18:51:22
Is it transfer fee or wages Ed?

{Ed001's Note - we haven't agreed a fee, so it couldn't be wages yet mate.}

5.) 07 Jun 2018 18:51:39
Sibsama. Maybe they wanna leave to join the greatest club in the world. A club that is going in the right direction under a fantastic manager.

6.) 07 Jun 2018 18:59:23
Harry with the Xenophobia again. So anti English it's unreal.

7.) 07 Jun 2018 19:23:41
What's xenophobic about Harry's post? I thought it was quite funny.

8.) 07 Jun 2018 19:35:57
Sorry to ask ed and open this up. I appreciate if you don't want to answer or even reply. Obviously im only asking because im an avid fan wanting us to move forward with the best players we can get. Are we anyway near close to reaching the fee needed?

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea how I would even measure it, let alone if we are or not.}

9.) 07 Jun 2018 19:48:18
Harry, I disagree.

City, Liverpool, Spurs, Man Utd, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Bournemouth all played good football the season just gone. Good football is not just an attacking game. Also, playing defensively doesn't necessarily mean aggressive "huff and puff" football. Good football is if you get the most out of your players and achieve what you should be or more. Arsenal played attacking football but it wasn't good because they got smashed on the regular. United played defensively but it was clearly good because they got to a final and finished 2nd.

There are a handful of managers who don't cover themselves in glory by treating it like MMA. Warnock, Allardyce and Pulis are probably the biggest culprits.

You would do well to remember that we lost the European Cup final to a Spanish team managed by a French legend, and they deployed absolutely disgusting tactics which hospitalised two of our players.

10.) 07 Jun 2018 19:49:11
Bit of an over reaction there Dexter. Think about it. If a Brazilian could get the same money in Brazil as he would in England where do you think he would choose to play?

11.) 07 Jun 2018 19:54:04
You mean what is xenophobic about saying 'why would anyone move to England if not money? ', along with repeated abuse of Liverpool's English players, any English players Liverpool are linked with and the England national team.

12.) 07 Jun 2018 20:20:00
People don’t chose EPL out of any love lol! It’s pure money and what kind of money? Insane wages and huge signing on fees!

MK
I agree with you but we don’t rate any of those teams, Do we? I have seen posters abusing all those teams when they park their bus 😂😂😂.

13.) 07 Jun 2018 20:52:26
To be fair to Dexter, it is Harry's repetitive abuse towards all things English that makes it seem worse. He will literally blame a lack of ability on a player being English without any elaboration.

In isolation, what he's said isn't that bad. Regular readers will know that Harry has a very specific agenda against England as well as its players and coaches though. I don't know if xenophobia is the right term. It is very rude though.

14.) 07 Jun 2018 21:05:13
Harry don't confuse people's emotional highs immediately after being held to a 0-0 by a flat back ten, with their actual opinions.

Liverpool played exactly the same way as United do now when we had Rafa.

For the record, i don't think you are xenophobic. You might want to explain yourself better when criticising English players though. And leave out their nationality. It has no bearing on them as footballers or people. It will stop people from getting the wrong impression of you.

You can't play the same players in every single game without them suffering a dip in form or getting fatigued. And what about long term injuries? You never know what could happen in football.

After Can's back and Ox's knee injuries, we were short in midfield and limped over the line in the race for Top 4.

It's not just about having a strong XI. You're right, it's about having strength in depth. Ox is probably out till the end of the year and I reckon Klopp will rotate Keita, Fabinho, Fekir, Gini, Hendo and Milner (I hope he stays) .

I love Riise's left peg and Robbo's tenacity but Aurelio was on a different level. He was so technically gifted and a very intelligent player. It's shame he was so injury prone and never really got going for us.

I remember him being compared to Roberto Carlos. And who can forget that glorious free kick against United. Van der Sar was rooted to the spot.

We're definitely missing Ox's ability to run with the ball and drive at the defense before unleashing a screamer or sliding it in to the Front 3.

Here's to hoping Keita can finally get a run of games and tear it up just like he did for RBL.

They can afford to have key players out due to injuries/ suspensions e. g. KDB without a significant drop off in quality. We just can't match them in this way. But our first XI is probably on par with them.

We got to take things one game at a time and hope other teams pick points off them. It's a shame Lamela missed that sitter tonight.

Just goes to show that form is temporary, class is permanent. He is such a useful option for us. Wouldn't be surprised if he got an England call-up soon. Just hope and pray he doesn't get injured.
