Long time lurker, occasionally poster.
With the way we used Trent in the last game, do we think we may possibly look at signing two CBs this summer, players in the Gvardiol/ Ndicka mould who can play both cb and lb? May be a reason why we have ‘withdrew’ ourselves from the Jude saga.
As MK pointed out, it would be difficult to persist with those tactics while using Robbo at lb.
Would certainly make sense if klopp would want this to be our new way of playing.

Ndicka and Gvardiol would be perfect if we want to persist with Trent stepping into midfield. I don't think it's a coincidence that City and Arsenal both play with 3 natural centre backs (minimum - City sometimes have 4 on at once) despite lining up as a back 4. It gives them the security to push a defender into midfield without leaving the defence hopelessly stretched with 2 players repeatedly having to cover the whole width of the pitch.

It could work just as well by just coaching Robertson that he has to stay back if Trent goes into a midfield free role. I don't think Robbo has the discipline for that though personally. He charges out to close players down all the time and leaves a huge hole behind him.

2.) 12 Apr 2023 15:57:05
Agree with both posters here, get a more defensive RB and encourage Robbo to stay back. I also don't think he's good enough going forward to justify how often he does. Gets in Diaz' way at times and the link up isn't great (was nowhere near as much of an issue with Mane as we used him primarily as a wide striker rather than a natural winger like Diaz)

3.) 12 Apr 2023 16:25:22
I agree that Robbo doesn’t seem to have the discipline for that. Also you would be taking a lot away from his game, constant harassing of opposition and the willingness to always bomb forward.

4.) 12 Apr 2023 16:44:40
I’d like to see us go back to high intensity football rather than look to change to something that City do. We’ve tried that with slow possession football and look where that’s got us.

5.) 12 Apr 2023 17:26:33
If Bellingham is too dear, pretty sure Gvardiol is out of reach too I'm afraid.

6.) 12 Apr 2023 18:16:26
Ah no magico, bellingham was always a pipe dream but Gvardiol, Caicedo and Rice are on the way.

7.) 12 Apr 2023 18:28:17
Same JK23, but I don't think it'll happen so I'm just going to let it go and embrace this change and hope we start buying the players to suit it ?.

8.) 12 Apr 2023 20:13:36
How do we know JB hasn't decided to stay at BVB for another year to get his price down for LFC in 2024/ 2025? Pipe dream? Wishful thinking?

9.) 12 Apr 2023 20:16:08
Mk we’ve played heavy metal and possession football. Maybe it’s time to play Tony Pulis Stoke or Joe Kinnear Wimbledon style anti football. Full evolution.

10.) 12 Apr 2023 21:06:58
to the people saying sign a more defensive Right Back and that Robbo should sit back more - are you really pleasing to Klopp to change his tactics.

Cos any time I've seen anyone play fullback for a Jurgen Klopp Liverpool side, they play high up the pitch. Even if we went and brought back Markus Babbel, he would be playing high up the pitch. It's how we play.

Hi guys - big reader of the site for a number of years. This is my first post.

Ed002 this is one for you, hopefully it is okay to ask here and it is not too much of a stupid question.
If the season was to be classed as void would this mean Chelsea's transfer ban would be void and this would then have to be reinstated next year?
As technically they would not have had a transfer ban if the season was void?

Thanks.

Astarkey07

{Ed002's Note - I think the Chelsea page would have been better but Chelsea don't have a transfer ban as it was thrown out on appeal on the basis of no retribution from Chelsea as they served the first window. This actually helped a number of other sides including Liverpool who also fell foul of the same transgression as Chelsea did with a youngster. The mass charges (50-60 charges) related to one player (Gilmour) were withdrawn before the appeal. So it makes no difference to the ban Chelsea were given. The issue in question that may come up is the League Cup which would need a decision if the season is made entirely boid. Right now there has been no such discussion and the option of the Bundesliga approach is still seen as viable.}

You should really look at it from the other way, only allowed a maximum of non home grown players.
Not all of the players listed above need to be registered for the squad because they are under the age of 21 so that means they would not count towards homegrown in that sense.
Homegrown in the squad would be Trent, kelleher, Gomez, jones. Not sure if I am missing anyone.

Do a lot of posters forget that Chelsea have sold a load of academy players such as mount?
Money from these transfers counts as pure profit which goes a long way to helping any hypothetical FFP issues any club has.

Digger10 why doesn’t Klopp just wait until the players club gives us permission? Surely it’s not hard to do.
And in terms of VVD we had to pay over the odds due to Klopp tapping up.

Would probably help if he was played in his best position which uses his best attributes as opposed to being turned into a Hendo 2.0.

Danish King - look at ED002 replies. We are not in for Ugarte because klopp has p. ed off sporting by talking to him directly without the clubs permission.

If anyone is interested Howard Webb is also on the Jim White and Simon Jordan show today on talk sport. I’m sure they will ask about scenarios!

MK, second goal could also be seen as Virgil and robbo were 5 yards too deep.
If they played the line same as konate then son would have been flagged offside.
Even if konate was in line with the other two, Son would most probably still have gone on to score.
Agree that Virgil should be organising the back line better, but does he have it in him anymore.

Or is it a case that the budget the owners ‘set’ did cover the transfer of Bellingham when klopp said he was more than happy with the midfield we had.
However klopp now realises more of the squad needs a revamp and that budget needs to be spread over a few different positions now?
