Well it looks like PSG and Cheslea are outbidding each other for Ugarte. Cannot believe we are not in for him. Perfect number 6 who could dictate the game form deep. He is a tackling machine, excellent on the ball and a perfect Klopp player.
Before you give me this “the windows hasn’t opened yet” you said the same exact 13 months ago and we are finishing below Newcastle United.
There are no too many good DM out there for that kind of money.

Top notch maybe in Portugal, so was Matheus Nunes though. Would rather go with Bajcetic or go for Lavia.

Would you use the same logic for Darwin Nunez @Jude? Or it only applies for those who we don’t sign?
And as for Bajectic! What options do we have other than not using the kid? The kid will be burned to ground by September if we don’t sign a DM.

Is it particularly significant that we are finishing below Newcastle?

Danish King - look at ED002 replies. We are not in for Ugarte because klopp has p. ed off sporting by talking to him directly without the clubs permission.

@Danish King, Klopp tapped up a player from Sporting (I can't recall if it was Ignacio or Ugarte) and they are refusing to do any business with us. We have to accept that Klopp's mistake cost us any chance of signing him.

May as well sack the international part of our scouting network in that case, Jude.

I agree Jude. I’m trying not to fall into the trap of “yeah we didn’t want him anyway” but he has only had 1 good season in the Portuguese league. It’s not the best league, you get some hits (Diaz, Paulinha, Ruben Dias) and some misses (Nunes, Fabio silva, Renato)

Personally I would prefer Thuram as I think he is more mobile and better on the ball.

Diaz and Nunez were top notch in Portugal they’ve been ok I suppose.

Dracred

Patch up with sporting. It’s not rocket science. Yes we did a mistake but money could cover it up. If we are serious we get him. It’s that simple.

@NavyKeith
We need both. A DM and a B2B engine. Ugarte is a top class DM.

26 May 2023 10:16:33
didn't one of the eds basically say that Sporting won't deal with us because of our dodgy dealings in the transfer market? we'd have to have more money than PSG and Newcastle combined to pay enough to these clubs that we keep treating like mud.

@Faithworks, Ed02 said it, so it’s bound to be true. Won’t (and shouldn’t) stop the speculation of fans on a banter page though.

I.

Imagine being a vegan and going into a steak house every day and getting offended.

Suppose it’s similar if others opinions or speculation offends you, yet you find yourself on an opinions page everyday.

Gluten for punishment maybe ??‍♂️.

Yes i would Danish, as anyone would agree by my recent comments on Darwin. He's definitely not alone in this but i think his sometimes horrendous misses this year has been one of the main differences between getting top 4 and not. Look i've said on other threads Ugarte COULD end up being a top signing for someone but anyone who can't see the difference between the two leagues is in the clouds. Southampton would have a good chance of winning that league and Lavia would probably be the best midfield player in it at 19.

He’s a relatively unknown player from the portuguese league. Every year several players of that profile get their big move, and most of them fall short of their expected potential.

He sounds good but it’s hardly a disaster if we miss out on him, as this kind of hysteria happens every summer with fans of many different clubs. Nobody has any idea of how good he is, really, until we see him outside of Portugal.

It is not something worth throwing the toys out of the pram for. Just as it wasn’t last year, when we missed out on Matheus Nunes, who went on to be a flop. Nor was it the case ten years ago, when we ‘missed out’ on Porto’s Fernando, who signed for City and also did sod all.

It’s a tale as old as time.

@Jude.
And yet you are sold on signing Jude Bellingham who is playing in a farmers league. Don’t give me his days at Birmingham.
Ugarte is an excellent player and I understand you haven’t seen him play at all which is absolutely fine by me. More than the hype he is what we need, the profile we need desperately. We are chasing players who like to be a receiver of a pass rather than stopping an attack, unless you have completely forgotten how awful Fabinho is today and is ready to give him his 190000th chance to revamp his form!
I have seen enough of Lavia. He is crap on the ball. He is not at the level of Ugarte for me.

And you are wrong on why missed on top 4 this season. our defense is shambles and our midfield is non existent. We cannot outscore every team in the league.

Mattheus Nunes would have been a good signing for us last summer and would have helped us secure more points - improving our chances of securing champions league football.

He would have given us some legs when we desperately needed them. And at 35m, it was a relatively good value. He also speaks perfect English - which would have meant he'd settle very quickly.

The fact that he's flopped at Wolves is an indictment on the ongoing mess at Wolves rather than him not being a good player.

In fact, if we could get Nunes for the 35-40m this summer, I would consider him again.

You can bet City will be looking at him as a replacement for Calvin "one game" Phillips.

A bit of healthy balance. :)

Haha comparing Bellamy to ugarte, mate?

Bellamy has shone in a poor dortmund side and carried them probably to a title. He will go on to probably win big ears and la liga with real Madrid and be one of the best players in the world.

I suspect many will be disappointed by the end of the transfer window as the club penny pinches to third and 4th choice options. One or two may turn out half decent I suppose and the club will be lauded for doing shrewd business retrospectively. But once again when we have an option to try and get a generational talent we wimp out.

I actually have more belief that the players we already have will turn out to be the superstars for us next season rather than the ones we recruit. Particularly trent if he continues on his path as a leader in the team and bajcetic who will be excellent not to mention doak. Would also like to see one of our young right backs given a chance to step up.

Danish, Klopp tapped him up and won’t do business with us. Your beef is with Klopp and nobody else. Air your grievances to him and to nobody else but him. There’s no “we” here. There’s only “him”. Peace and Love.

Bellamy has been declared bankrupt so hopefully he’ll come in on minimum wage.

Just hope Klopp takes his golf club off him.
