Sacha tavolieri now claiming Lavia was in London over the weekend, sadly looks like we lost out on him too.

It’s as good as done. I’d imagine it’ll be announced later. Absolute farcical situation.

Why would he sign for us? We’ve clearly messed him around with the failed Caicedo pursuit. He’s 19 so has potential but why get annoyed. If he doesn’t want to play for us then let’s move on.
Let’s go sign Luis or Doucoure etc. there’s other targets. Don’t just focus on what Chelsea are doing. They may all fail there. No one knows.

Chelsea would have to pay the huge transfer fee of £170m for both players and face the consequences of breaking the FFP rule.

Lost out? We didn’t want to pay £50 mill so why would we match Chelsea’s £55 mill bid. He clearly wasn’t fancied so how have we “missed out” we didn’t have an acceptable bid accepted for him!

Why on earth are people so obsessed with Chelsea’s FFP when the Ed’s keep telling us they have made over £200m of sales already this window?!?!

At least do some research!

Chelsea are currently a positive net spend in this window (before Caicedo and Lavia) whereas we are negative.

Lavia is rated at 50 mill and we only believed he was worth 46 mill.

Which made me wonder what we believed a 50 mill midfielder offered over a 46 mill one.

It’s 4 million. And the answer to that is an Arthur Melo loan fee.

Zeddicus- they must be fine with FFP or they wouldn’t be spending you wouldn’t think but I don’t think it’s ridiculous for people to question it with the amount of spending they’ve done the last 3 windows, they made some sales this window but they will still be in big positive outlay and the last 2 windows prior they have spent a ridiculous amount of money.

They can afford them players because of legnth of contract and them fees as the total cost gets spread over the years of the contract . Well I’m sure I’ve read that on here

So a 80 mill player on a 8 year deal his payment gets spread over their books for the next 8 years at 10 mill per year .

Think this window is the last window these ludicrous contracts can be handed out as they are clamping down .

Cobra, as much as Zedd is talking about our unhealthy obsession with Chelsea's FFP status, I think he's also intimating that our destiny is in our hands and we shouldn't get distracted, or use as an excuse, things out of our control.

I hope I'm paraphrasing correctly.

DHFC - Pretty sure the fee can only be spread out over a max of 5 years. Like Eds say points worrying about finances. We clearly have money available ourselves but I'm not convinced we'll pull anything off.

Chelsea's method works until any player flops, at which point they have an expensive flop on a very long contract. Its a risky strategy, yet I imagine a well thought out one, which may push FSG's prudent approach to 5th place in the league.
The game is changing, and I wonder if Jurgen's distaste for ridiculous fee's may see him swerve off to the national team sooner than expected.

If Liverpool think other's team player are very expensive to buy, then create your own player and compete for titles.

Delvecs, you hit the nail on the head.

Clubs have experts who understand FFP much better than we do. It just comes across as salty to keep throwing the same shade.

Chelsea breaking FFP rules is not your problem pointer. Lavia is not worth that price.

It will work for them in the long run, spend loads of money and in a few years time their net spend comes right down like City’s now. Chelsea’s squad now looks very impressive. If not this year then next year they will be right up there. Liverpool need to do some business and quick, my main worry now is that we’re clearly missing our main targets so whoever comes in our transfer decision makers clearly thought weren’t as good… although things can change quickly.

Do a lot of posters forget that Chelsea have sold a load of academy players such as mount?
Money from these transfers counts as pure profit which goes a long way to helping any hypothetical FFP issues any club has.

Maybe someone should ask ed002 to explain Chelsea’s FFP status? ?.

19.) 14 Aug 2023
14 Aug 2023 10:09:59
It's really quite simple. We stopped signing players and therefore, unlike Chelsea and other clubs, we have nobody to sell to offset our spend.

These signings make Chelsea s midfield very impressive.

Chelsea's outlay far far exceeds their sales in the last few windows so I suspect there will be a lot for them to do to avoid FFP trouble despite the long contracts.

They of course have a plan for this. They have not decided to go against fffp and take the penalties. Looking at the age of the players I suspect this is a long term rebuild that they are trying to do in super fast time rather than gradually. Unless there are changes to FFP, I suspect Chelsea will be far far less active in future windows. Let's see. It is frustrating to see them get the players we want but that's what it is.

I can definitely live with it. What I can't live with is now using this as an excuse to not get a top CB and top DM in the door. Jury is still very much out on everybody running transfers, providing funds everything. This window was so important as mentioned by absolutely everybody. We are told the funds are there and hard work is going on behind the scenes. If that's the case work harder. Much much harder because failure will not go down well.

{Ed002's Note - You all need to step back from FFP which is clearly not understood at all.}

We had plenty of players to sell. we just dragged our heels and then let them walk for free lol.
