Ed 001 what is your thoughts on Alexis macalister as a player? And how do you think he will do at us? Are you excited with this signing? Apologies if you have already answered this I tried to look but couldn’t see you say anything about him.

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure he is an exciting signing, but he is what we need in midfield. He is a very good player with lots of effort and industry rather than flair. Mobile and technically strong, he is ideal for a team that intends to press the ball. I would say I am very happy with him coming rather than excited.}

He is like a South American milner, like Ed i don't think I fully appreciate what he is bringing to us yet. I will be very excited if we buy kone or thuram and viega would be an excellent signing also.

With the price now being not as reported i can be happy of the signing aspart of a trio, he main one to sort is Thuram then Kone and a CB, that would makeup for losing out on Bellingham for a season or 2 until he does eventually arrive.

Anyone thinking we are buying a whole new midfield in the next few weeks will wake up with their head in their porridge.

Ed001, who would you be excited about joining us out of the known targets which are being considered? Thanks in advance for your reply. I myself am really excited about Mac alistair. I think he will turn out to be our player of the season. I just think he is exactly what we need to knit everything together.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't really seen enough of the rest, but I would have been excited by Gvardiol and Bellingham. The rest are fine, but it is not exciting in comparison to those two. I do think Mac Allister will do well with us, very well in fact, but it is not a signing to excite like Diaz does or Firmino did.}

@Hailstones, MacAllister is a South American James Milner? Yikes! Now I do not know what or who a South American James Milner would look like (not sure what that term even means, really) BUT I propose you actually go watch him play cos I have never seen Milner do the things Alex Mac can do with a football at his feet with his back to the play with bodies all around him.

Also if Alex Mac is not "exciting" then he is exactly the player we need, IMO. We do not need just exciting signings in name only, IMO. We need players who can do exactly what Klopp requires of them. For me, the excitement is what the players will bring to our team and I am excited to see what Alex Mac can bring to us cos I think he will be very good for us. Just my take.

A “South American, James Milner”?

Somehow, I don’t think that’s a compliment from you.

I think 99% of Liverpool fans are very pleased he’s signing.

After only signing one senior midfielder in 9 windows, it doesn't take much to excite us.

Mac Allister is a good start. Thuram and/ or Kone would be a good injection of energy and physicality as 6 or 8.

If we're persisting with this high right 8/ 10, and can't have Valverde or Barella, then Kudus or Sobozalai might be good fits for that last position. Can also see the logic in Veiga there.

Ed001, you mentioned Mac Allister as being well-suited to a team that presses. Do you think, then, that Liverpool will return to the high-intensity pressing of the seasons before last?

{Ed001's Note - I think we have to. It is clear that without it we are not a great side, with it we are.}

Mac Allister is a South American Milner? Milner was a brilliant servant but Mac Allister is far better technically than Milner, far better. I for one am very excited at his signing. He holds and drives with the ball exceptionally well. He has impressed me every time he has played for Brighton and also on the international stage at the World Cup. When it’s all said and done I believe he will go down as a club legend.

I think Mac Allister is a great signing. He's not the fastest but he's a very intelligent footballer.

In the last year, since moving into a deeper role, he's been excellent in the defensive aspects of the game too. Versatile player also which helps a lot.

On the ball is where he's really impressive. Excellent at keeping possession, can beat a man in the dribble and good with the passes.

Looking forward to watching him with us. He has all the tools to be a great player. My only slight concern is a relative lack of pace, however this shouldn't be an issue with the right players around him (as shown in Brighton's current set up with a mobile midfielder in Caicedo next to him) .

Apparently we are going to pay 30+ million for Kessie according to Spanish press. We are going to need bigger changing rooms with all these midfielders.

FlyPelicanFly, neither Valverde nor Barella will be moving to us so I don't think there is any point broaching that side of things. We can also do a lot better thann Kudus and the other kid cos IMO, Alex Mac is already better than them and can play all 3 CM positions comfortably.

Alex Mac is a true baller, dead ball specialist and lethal from the spot and he is or was Klopp's no. 1 target so let's see how things pan out. Personally, Im excited to see what he and all our future signings can add to the team.

Totally agree with OliRed here, Mac Allister is the real deal and would improve any team in the league.
I guess we'll just have to wait and if Klopp knows how to use him, or if we'll be seeing more of the same as this disaster of a season.

Are you disappointed to not see us linked with Caicedo Ed? Would he excite you? Or have we been put off after his stunt in January do you feel.

{Ed001's Note - January put me off, so not disappointed, no.}

I'm very excited about Ally Mac - strong, insightful play, an eye for goal but plays unselfishly. Good signing I think.

I actually think we only need one more CM (Thuram/ Kone/ Kessie? ) and then we should actually get a decent right back who is happy to compete and challenge and cover for Trent which gives us an added dimension with Trent doing his drift thing into midfield. And I also think we need a decent CB, . left footed if possible. I'd be happy with that rather than three midfielders which I reckon would be overkill with Stefan coming back.

I know people go on about him being only 18yrs but Bellingham is only 19yrs. Clearly they are not at the same level but no reason why Baj can't do a job for us and develop well. - all the signs are there for a creative mid and energy all around. Tricky window to get right this one and will certainly indicate tactics over the next couple of years.

RedFlag. You say buy only one midfielder in addition to Mac Allister and let Baj play. I love Baj and think this boy is special. But what happens if he tears his ACL? That means relying on Hendo and Fab and quite frankly if we have any ambitions that ain’t going to cut it. Or what if Thuram gets an injury and Baj being young has a massive dip in form?

Buying Mac Allister, Thuram and a 3rd midfielder, ideally Kone has to be minimum expectation and a priority. We need a squad of quality to compete in all competitions. Baj will still get plenty of minutes on the pitch through rotating with Thuram and Kone. Also personally speaking, Fab and Thiago should be sold so that’s why it appears we are aiming to get 3 midfielders through the door.

Fab has regressed so bad it’s almost hard to comprehend or explain. As for Thiago he is class but injury prone plus he is on £200k a week. Sell instead of doing what the messiah Edwards did, which was allowing loads of players to run down their contract and us being in the position we find ourselves in now. That is having few players with actual resale value.

Surely it depends where Trent is going to play. If we buy 3 and then Trent plays midfield. Now we have Baj also that’s 5 new midfielders since the start of last season.

20.) 06 Jun 2023
06 Jun 2023 19:05:09
Trent won’t be playing midfield, the closest he will get to there is the hybrid formation we saw at the end of the season. It makes no sense to play trent there as a sole midfielder as you leave a gaping hole at RB. My mind will be changed if we suddenly go all in for a 1st team RB but every media outlet has us linked with 3+ midfielders with possibility of a defensive signing which I would imagine will replace either Matip or Gomes.

AAR91, that's the thing. Im a bit jaded with the way things went with the tactics and with the way Klopp allowed Lijnders and his assistants to call the shots and he eventually was the one with egg on his face having to pick up the pieces and taking all the blame from an assistant who thought he was a football genius despite proof of the absolute contraty.

All water under the bridge now so like you and many others, Im hoping Klopp has taken control of things fully now and has awesome ideas on how to use Alex Mac effectively as well as the other signings we will make, the same way he admitted that Bobbie embodied ALL the ideas of how he wanted us to play when he arrived. Here's to hoping.

I would be super excited if Thuram was brought in. The ideal Klopp midfielder for me. Can play both defense and offense, can press and tackle, can run with the ball and dribble past players, and gives you 90 minutes of energy.
