I definitely get the excitement for Elliott. Not downing that in any way. But I'm just as excited about jones. He has serious levels to go to. Anyone who watched him in u23s would see what the kid is capable of. I suspect he will get better every season eventually becoming a superstar.

{Ed001's Note - I fully agree, I love Jones and can't understand why so many people are so down on him. He has made huge strides forward every year and works so bloody hard to make it, he deserves any and all success he eventually achieves.}

Cheers Ed001 another great write up. Really enjoy the match reviews. Hearing murmurs that Hendo has signed new deal to be announced today.

Liverpool and Jordan Henderson reach agreement in principle over new contract. Improved 3yr deal + option of 4th based on appearances. Klopp key to turnaround.

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed.}

I am glad you mentioned the Billy Gilmour chants Ed001, there was simply no need for it, let's hope its the first and last time we hear about such things.

I was also concerned with playing a newly promoted team especially after the Brentford and Watford results and also the fact the supporters were back in the ground, having the crowd back gives every team a boost, i cannot wait to see Liverpool play Burnley with the fans back in the stadium.

My take on the game was a solid performance with plenty of things still to improve but i was pleased to see Klopp be decisive with his subs, long may that continue.

3 out of the 4 strikers scoring can only boost there confidence, especially firmino, and seeing Salah trying to set up Mane when he had every right to go through on goal and make it 4-0 can only be good for the team spirit going forward.

Fingers crossed that all 4 senior center backs and Allison can steer clear of injuries this season, if they can do that then there is no doubt in my mind we can challenge for the title once again.

I am sure that being written of by every pundit and expert will suit Klopp down to the ground and he will use that fact to motivate the players.

I thought the norwich subs looked lively when they came on and playing 2 up front could be something Farke considers going forward, pukki is simply too slow and predictable with his finishing, having a strike partner could help him, otherwise they will struggle and repeat there last season in the premier league, they should aim for 17th, there is no shame in that at all.

Roll on burnley in front of a packed Anfield.

{Ed001's Note - I can't argue with any of that, though I did have a bloody good try to come up with something! If we have an in-form Alisson behind any 2 of our 4 centre-backs throughout the season, we are certainly good enough to challenge for the title. Might not win it, but we are good enough to do so.}

Ed001, question for you. Do you think that Klopp is somewhat responsible for the woes that some of our players have (particularly in midfield) because he changes their positions and asks them to carry out various roles at various times. I'm thinking in terms of the difficulties that Ox seems to be having. We all know that Milner, for example, copes well enough with all the various roles he's been asked to carry out. Henderson too. But maybe Ox is not made out for that (his injury is over since almost a year, now) and should have a more focused and consistent role for him to really excel?

{Ed001's Note - yes and no. Players should be capable of playing a number of positions, so that is on them if they can't but, on the other hand, not all players can do what they should and so you have to work with those limitations. Klopp has to do what he thinks is best for the team, even at the expense of what is best for an individual player at times.}

How is it a 'woe' if the midfield are performing as klopp needs rhem to do for the gokd of rhe team?

Thanks ed1, season does not really start until the match review is here 😍
Bang on as usual.
Tsimi seemed really good but as you mentioned, faded somewhat towards the end.
I said it before and will say it again - it will be easier to replace Salah than replacing Milner. Just try and find a never ending athlete that can play every position and a great attitude to boot.

{Ed001's Note - I was so tempted to get Ed033 to post up the Southampton one instead just to mess with everyone!}

Ed001 I d I get the feeling Ox would play anywhere and just be happy to play. The only 3 position Ox seems to play is the number 8 or now any of the front 34 roles what I think he can play anyway. I think his best in the number 8 role but ok in the other 3 roles. A lot of people give Ox and Naby stick of Saturday but I thought they was both ok one of naby’s better games he seemed to work harder of the ball. I thought the biggest problem was Milner playing in Fabs position because he is nowhere near fabs level in the position which is why I think if we could get another midfielder in it should be Dm rather than Cm as none of are other midfielders are really Dm.

{Ed001's Note - Ox would, he is desperate to play and make an impression. It is such a shame he has suffered so many injuries.}

Kingkenny I agree on the subs mate. In the past Klopp has been criticised for not using the bench earlier but for me it’s always been the case that he didn’t trust the bench over his awareness to change the game. Look at origi for example he payed the equivalent of 6 games last season over 4 competitions. Compare that to Jota as everyone said another forward wouldn’t get minutes. Last season I remember Klopp bringing Thiago on once before half time (real) and once at half time (Chelsea) . The squad players are lucky to get 10 mins.

Faithinworks, so you think Ox was performing at his peak playing in his usual CM role against Norwich, after playing (and training, I assume) the summer in Firmino's role?

It's amazing seen few reports related to cantwell and I'm not an expert obviously but see a lot of similarities in curtis jones.

Funny how people would rather spend the 30/ 40 million on cantwell rather than having jones step up.

Modern day fans I guess but for me jones and elliot stepping into Gini place makes perfect sense.

Ed001 great summary, absolutely spot on, I understand your thoughts on ox, he has the ability and has previously shown it but has the knee injury effected him more than we think?

He looked out of place and I am hoping it's just sharpness, but compare him to Curtis Jones, whatever position he plays he just looks like he belongs, I am genuinely excited for him this season and I hope he has the chances to show what he can do.

{Ed001's Note - it is possible the knee injury has affected him, after all it is not his first, but I think it is just the moving from position to position and a lack of match sharpness that was the problem. Also, it was not exactly a cohesive trio in there as they do not play regularly like that, which can't have helped.}

The issue for me is not Ox's effort or ability. He just seems to be unavailable for a pass and therefore unable to have the ball to make a pass or affect the game. And this is not new. It's been like this since his return from the big injury. I like the lad and he has heart and lots of talent but I don't know what else he can do to be more involved in the games he plays.

It pains me every time to see Ox have an off game. I was not really excited when he first signed, but he quickly became one of my fav. players, during his constantly improving first season. Also, seems like a total character and a guy you will love to hang out with. I still remember how he came to Coutinho's rescue in an interview, when he was incessantly being quizzed about his departure. At that time, with his game glowing and leadership skills shining through, I thought he would be a future captain. I sincerely hope it works out for him this season.
Okay, end of my love letter for OX.

James Milner covered more ground (12.65km) than any other player in the first round of 2021/ 22 Premier League fixtures.
