Contract extension talks supposedly ongoing with Ibrahima Konaté.

I'm happy, Harry. I like Konaté more than most people here do. Yes, there are injury issues but he gives us a physicality that we sorely need in a league like the EPL. I hope the injury issues will subside over time. When fully fit he is easily the next best after VVD, in my book.

I certainly think it's a position we could upgrade. Is it higher on the priority list than some other positions? Don't think so.

Not entirely convinced by Konate but he is fairy young as CB's goes.

I will say with the current tactics, he does get exposed a lot more and that could be why I'm not entirely cemented.

Fair enough mate, I too like him. On his day he is brutally good. But those days are far and few now. Which is a worry.

V good player konate imo, how many games he misses threw injury is the problem with him. can't seem to string half a dozen games together.

Think he’s great, as said once he overcomes the little knocks gets a run he will be a match for anyone.

Digger10 - I think the reason he tends to get injured is because he is a very physical player who never pulls out of a tackle or 50/ 50 challenge.

A lot of other players do.

Some of our other players never seem to put a decent challenge in.

I like him in the team.

Konate hasn't been perfect this season but how many CBS can command such a large section of the pitch when his RB is allowed wonder wherever he fancies, the RW is an inside forward. Oh and our holding MF played as a 10 for most of his career.

Matip has mainly been Klopp’s first choice this season. Obviously now he’s out Konate can cement his place.

He definitely fully committed to the challenge kbl, no doubt there. Its not the impact injuries I see as the problem it's the muscle 1s. Any player we've had who has had them over a period of 2 years r so has never grown out of them. Hopefully konate does as I think he could go on to be really top drawer, but I have my doubts.

Am not a fan think h makes far too many mistakes and is injured far too much.
Not sure how long he has left but I would give him a new contract just to protect our investment but definitely think he needs upgrading. I don’t think he would be happy as a squad player but that is where he is for me.
Fully fit and in top form I would have Gomez ahead of him every day of the week.

He’s Orite. Not great. Take Virgil out of that defence and it gets found out very quickly especially with no proper Defensive Midfielder.

Everyone is correct it’s the injuries that are Ibou’s problem. He gets injured that often, that he’s not actually improving each season like he should. He’s the exact same quality as when we signed him. Still in the “potential” bracket.

Konate is an old fashioned proper centre back. He is not one of these kind of a CB, kind of a full back which is what we need in his position. VVD is the central man all day long and Konate should be his cover. Gomez can do the right sided role and we need a new left footed CB to do the left sided role.

I think you are all nuts. Konate is 24 and playing in what has been a very unstable team defensively for the past 18 months. Our defense has never been secure since the VVD injury against Everton. The pressure he is put under playing the RCB with Trent pushing up, and our cover not being great (Hendo, Fab, Thiago) has left him exposed to a lot.
There are some rough areas of his game, but he is 24. He is strong, a monster in the air and not afraid to play out.

I genuinely think he could be seen as one of the best CBs in the land in another 3 years.

Each to their own opinion though, I may well be wrong.

Happy that the club want to keep him, by and large they get these things right.
