Bit out of left field but do you think that if Brighton sign Fati (at the time of writing they are in poke position) that possibly Mitoma could be signed by Liverpool?

Probably no chance but I thought I'd ask.

Many thanks ?.

To play DM or LCB?

2.) 31 Aug 2023 11:10:59
how would you describe being in poke position?

is it like the thousand years of pain move in Naruto?

3.) 31 Aug 2023 11:14:03
Personally I think the chances of Brighton signing Fati are slim.

4.) 31 Aug 2023 11:40:15
My bad, no poking required lol. Was meant to say pole position) . Looks like they are in for grabenberch but don’t seem to be any real links to another DM or a LCB. Maybe dacoure, maybe hincape are possibilities.

I was actually thinking that if salah does go would mitoma be an attacking quality option. Not as a replacement as salah is unique but still an exciting player to add to the attack.

{Ed002's Note - Mitoma is a LW and Liverpool do not need such a player - nor do they have any interest.}

5.) 31 Aug 2023 11:46:42
I could see a last minute move for Mitoma if it looks like Salah is going. I know he plays on the left for Brighton but he could move to the right or we could switch Diaz to the right to accommodate him. We switched Mane from right to left when Salah arrived and that didn’t work out too bad.

If Salah stays, which I fully expect he will, I see no need for Mitoma as much as I do rate him.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have no interest in him.}

6.) 31 Aug 2023 11:50:39
Razor he's in Brighton atm for talks.

7.) 31 Aug 2023 12:02:32
OP, we have no room for Mitoma and the forward line is not the issue here. We have a couple of gaps to fill elsewhere which are more important.

8.) 31 Aug 2023 12:13:29
Razor, what did you think of GGR's reply to your post? Whooosh!

9.) 31 Aug 2023 12:13:35
No interest at the moment Ed but if Salah expressed a wish to leave Mitoma could become an option.

The rumour was we’d look to Felix to replace Salah and that’s not like for like either. I’d prefer Mitoma to Felix any day of the week.

{Ed077's Note - why not go for a right sided player though?}

10.) 31 Aug 2023 12:48:32
Very good razorsharp.

11.) 31 Aug 2023 13:04:48
Salah will leave next summer.

12.) 31 Aug 2023 13:21:44
Which right sided attacker would anyone go for if Salah were to leave? Seems a glut of left sided players but not right.

(Not a call for negative FSG out type posts, but for actual suggestions of potential replacements)

13.) 31 Aug 2023 13:25:52
You can never have too many right footed left wingers ……

(Klopp) : hold my beer.

14.) 31 Aug 2023 13:58:41
Perhaps, with the inverted right back and Salah leaving at the end of the season we just field a left sided team next season? Saves us the fuss of having to cover the right side of the pitch.

15.) 31 Aug 2023 14:56:25
I played right wing for the best part of 15 years Ed but had spells on the left wing and even at centre forward and number 8. We have a habit of pidgeon holing players into one position but Mitoma is a real talent and could be played anywhere across the front line.

{Ed002's Note - And Liverpool has no interest in him.}

{Ed077's Note - if you say so. But we also have a habit of trying to for a square peg in a round hole.}

17.) 31 Aug 2023 15:49:17
In answer to Quo Vadis question - Szobszlai could play in place of Salah as he's a right sided midfielder? Spend the Salah fee elsewhere (if we had to) .

18.) 31 Aug 2023 16:51:32
Saka would be the dream replacement for Salah. No chance tho. Maybe Bowen could be a good replacement on the right.

19.) 31 Aug 2023 18:25:49
I like that idea WDW3.

20.) 31 Aug 2023 19:37:06
Redmersey, I think so too.

I don't know if salah will be sold or not, but if he goes then it won't be the end of the world. Personally if he goes I'd like to see another CB and a CM and/ or a RB signed. Trent moves into midfield or even as an RM or RW. Nunez can then play up front as he is supposed too and he can play on the last man like he wants to and occupy the space that salah would usually try to run into. Maybe even a change of formation to an 4-1-4-1.

Also thought Gomez did well yesterday. I n is it's only one game but credit where credit is due. They did very well and hopefully they can continue in this form.

Salah is incredible. Now is not the time to sell.

We need to buy DM an CB, revert to a traditional back four and then win the league.

Next season we sell Salah. And no transfer is the end of the world with a good plan to reinvest the money. But we have other jobs to do. The start has been really good. Got to keep that momentum going with signings to start title talk let alone top 4.

2.) 28 Aug 2023 15:19:02
Salah being sold would be a disaster!

3.) 28 Aug 2023 15:26:15
Gomez did play well yesterday, but unfortunately you can't rely on him to do so every game.

4.) 28 Aug 2023 15:30:09
Sobo75 it won’t be the end of the world but it will put an end to any title challenge we may have.

5.) 28 Aug 2023 15:58:43
I'm your fan Davey Sulls. Always astute stuff. Always on point. No histrionics.

I put a counter argument to you, Davey.

Yes, salah is incredible, but if he's not played correctly (tactically) then he's just another great player. And we have a few of those. He's certainly not what he was.

If we can sell Salah next year, then we can also sell him now - at a premium price.

Yes, we should buy a DM and a CB, this week, AND could also sell Salah.

And if Salah is going this week (and who knows), I would imagine an in-principle agreement would already be in place now (with utmost secrecy to allow the club to get it's other business sorted) .

And I still think we'd get top 4. We're going to have Brighton-esque year this year.

6.) 28 Aug 2023 16:40:30
Spot on there, Mark. If people don't mind Salah being sold this summer and if they get their wish then, don't come back here complaining as to why we are not competing for be trophies this season, should that be the case. Can't have it all one's own way all the time.

7.) 28 Aug 2023 17:19:21
Money in the bank for Salah does not equal 30 odd goals this season.
That's without adding in his assists and tendency to be a general thorn in the side for opposition.

8.) 28 Aug 2023 23:59:50
We have been told many many times that LFC are to be run financially as a self sustaining club. If the club gets an opportunity to release a player for fees well over their true price a deal will be done (Torres, Coutinuo, Henderson, Fab, Salah? ) just how it is. We don’t spend like our immediate rivals, just how it is. Club is worth billions more that ten years ago, just how it is.

Ron, I find your lack of faith disturbing.

The Dutch Carlton Palmer. Pmsl. ?.

People are entitled to their opinion Becker. You don’t have to have a fifa coaching badge to see that you cannot extract the maximum out of Nunez and salah in the same team. However I do agree that klopp is by far the most qualified to choose his formation and tactics but again it doesn’t take a genius to work out that Trent is better suited to a midfield role than he ever is as a full back.

I’m Aldi not advocating the sale of salah I’m merely pointing out that Nunez is younger, a proven goal scorer and requires service to succeed. I wasn’t really sure why they signed him at the time as he didn’t seem to fit into the style Liverpool were successful with but teams evolve and there’s no point in spending mega money in a proven goal scorer to them fail to optimise his talent.

Personally I’d sell salah before Trent. Trent could play anywhere in central or right midfield positions. “IF” Liverpool could find a steady defensive RB (Denis Irwin/ Steve Finan type player as supposed to an overhyped, overpriced player who’s had maybe a few good games) then Trent can be moved further up the pitch where his passing and crossing would be far more useful to the team than anything he could ever do defensively.
Nunez could use Trent’s passes and crosses more than Mo consistently carrying the ball into the centre of the pitch to shoot and occupying the space Darwin should be attacking.
I think if Darwin had a season of regular games with players crossing and passing to him constantly then he would score 20+ comfortably.
I’d also not be too concerned if salah was sold this window. Obviously it would be good to get a player or two in now but I would rather Liverpool kept the money and invested it in the right players maybe in Jan (like they did with VVD and Diaz) instead of frantically splurging it on deadline day just to try to appease the fans.

I like endo, I think in time people will appreciate him. There’s way too much importance placed on splurging silly money on players because they’ve got “potential” or because they’ve had a good season.
Man Utd have spent crazy money over the last few years and I’d say Liverpool has a better team/ squad. Chelsea have gone ballistic spending a billion or so, time will tell how good they will be. You can spend as much as you like but you can only play 11 at a time and if those 11 play well as a team then that’s what matters.

If the money is too good to turn down then you don’t turn it down. Mo is a legend, his legacy is secure. Liverpool can reinvest the money in another 2 or 3 players and be stronger going forward. Good luck to him, he’s served Liverpool well.

I agree with you SG. But would it be to far fetched to move Trent further up the field to provide those passes and crosses and maybe invest i a good defensive right back? Just a thought.
