Deal off! I don't believe it. Is this true Ed?
Cheers,

{Ed001's Note -it seems so.}

Ed with the Kono deal hitting a snag, do you think the owner said he wasn't for sale just to get more money or do they genuinely not want to sell at any price?
Cheers,

ROI.

{Ed001's Note - they genuinely want to keep him.}

Hey Ed, not exactly Liverpool related but do you know of any interest in Dundee United wonderkid Ryan Gauld? Four assists today and still only 17, impressive even if he is playing against some average teams! Yeah so any interest in him Ed? Cheers,
ROI. {Ed001's Note - lots of interest in him, Barca and Bayern have both scouted the lad. Arsenal, Man Utd, Everton and numerous others have all made enquiries in recent months. Villa seem to hold the strongest interest though, that I know of. Lambert is extremely keen and they would look a good bet as he would be almost guaranteed first team football for them.}

Good evening Eds! Been a while since I've been on here. Hope you're all well, you've done a great job on this page and I see there has been plenty of improvements made!

I've seen rumours surfacing of Shane Long possibly being looked at. Being Irish (hence the username! ) I have a bit of a soft spot for Shane Long. Obviously the goals he scored in Euro qualification helped us get to the Euros, and so he's a bit of a national treasure here nowadays!

Personally I like Shane Long as a player. One of the few players you see nowadays defending from the front. he's the type of player I love to watch and I reckon he'd be a real crowd pleaser. In terms of goals, he's hit a great run of form lately. I see him as a 10-12 goal a season player. he's the type of player we don't have at the moment, one which provides the pace to get in behind defences and could be lethal on the counter attack.

He could be a very useful player to have right now. Maybe not so much in the long term, but until Klopp has time to integrate the players he wants, I think Long could be a very good option. Not the best player, or the most clinical, but a very useful player nonetheless.

Good to be back on here and see the regulars are still here, as well as a new crop of posters. Keep up the good work Ed's!
Cheers,

As a huge Ireland fan mate he's def a crowd pleaser and always gives 100%. Sadly that's something that can't be said for a few of our current first team squad. My own personal opinion is he's a better option than some of our forwards but he isn't consistent enough. We have had great Irish players down through the years but don't think Shane is the man for the job. Saying that I didn't think caulker was the man for the job either.

2.) 15 Jan 2016 22:04:58
What about Ings?

3.) 15 Jan 2016 23:38:24
Ings is very similar.

4.) 15 Jan 2016 23:51:04
He's not good enuff and the only foward he works harder than in our squad is Benteke. We can do better.

5.) 16 Jan 2016 01:08:48
Shane Long. It's about time we stopped signing average crap and stared thinking big.

6.) 16 Jan 2016 06:48:10
I sincerely hope not. After signing half of Southampton's first team, now we are resorting to signing their squad players? WTF?
LFC is a big club that needs to think bigger, not scrap the bottom of the barrel for average players.

7.) 16 Jan 2016 11:10:55
He's an average striker, but so was Dirk Kuyt, who is a firm favourite among the fans. The key for Kuyt was he ran his socks off. Again maybe I'm blinded by the potential of an Irish player coming to Liverpool, but I think he's a decent player. Nothing special but gives us pace up front, which we seriously lack at the moment.

Obviously people are saying Danny Ings, but what's the point when he's out for the season. No good if he's fit next season, we need someone now. As I said, Shane Long may not be a long term option, but in the short term he could be a useful player to have at least until the end of the season. Teams are finding it too easy to play it out from the back because we're not quick enough to close them down up front, and his pace alone could make a massive difference.

Again just my opinion, but that's how I see it.
Cheers,

8.) 16 Jan 2016 12:21:55
Im sorry but we already have danny ings for the running his sock off role and he is already a fans favourite.

We have enough in the squad to see us through to the summer when we will probably sell benteke and buy someone suited to the way we play i. e. not lazy as hell.

Im not in the we can still get in the top four brigade as we had our chance over the xmas period and blew it completely. So for me consolidate, don't spend money unecessarily and try and win a few cups.

No doubt in the summer we will totally ignore ffp and plunge the club into further debt as it buys players targeted by klopp and we will see how far we get with them. Hopefully back into the champions league but we will see. Btw i love klopp.

9.) 16 Jan 2016 13:34:34
God no, Shane Long is worlds away from being as good as Kuyt.

Please god no.

Hey Ed, posted on here an hour or two ago about Gerrard, however it seems my post has been removed. Any reason in particular? I'd appreciate if you could put it back up:)
Cheers,

{Ed002's Note - No idea.}

The lads were simply brilliant today. Joe Allen, not everybody's cup of tea, but today he was brilliant. If Coutinho wasn't on the pitch, he would have been my MOTM. The pressing today was incredible, with 7 of the starting 11 having played the majority of the 120 minutes on Thursday night, there was great energy and determination in the team today.

We restricted City to very little, and the team is getting better with each game. With Sakho and Ibe still to come back into the team, we could be a force. Only 2 points off top 4, and only 7 points behind City in second. Who would of thought that 10 games in? Going great in the league and in the QF of the FA cup.

Here we go again!

Spot on, mate. Allen dominated Yaya and the City midfield today. His passing (with both feet with incision and precison), tackling, awareness and grit made Fernandinho and Yaya look old and slow sprung Couts many times to create havoc in the City defence. He is a very close 2nd for MOTM, IMO.

With Gerrard leaving at the end of the season, arises a situation we all feared. Who can step up to the plate and provide the motivation and game changing moments left by our local hero?
Jordan Henderson is our vice captain and has come on leaps and bounds over the past 2 seasons. He has the hunger and passion to succeed, but he just doesn't possess the quality of Stevie. Yet. I say yet because this is a lad that is always looking for ways to improve. Learning from the master himself won't be possible for much longer, making our task even harder, but I'm praying he has learned enough already to succeed.

Jordan Rossiter is the only other player capable of filling the void in my opinion. Right now he is nowhere near ready, but in years to come he has the potential. The same problem arises though, with Gerrard leaving at the end of the season, he can't learn much more from him. If we don't place too much pressure on him, he can be a special player.

At the end of the day, there is only one Steven Gerrard. There is no way of finding or integrating a player to replace him like for like.

I think its the right time for him to move on, but heres my problem - where do we go from here? I just fear we don't have a leader who can have the impact of Gerrard. We don't have that player that we turn to for inspiration if he leaves. Hopefully we come together as a team, but will this encourage our better players to avoid us or even leave the club because they don't have Stevie to captain them? So many questions left to be answered, we'll just have to wait and see.
Cheers.

1.) ROI, Totally agree we need a new leader ( those who say Gerrard isn't a leader are wrong, he has lead by example since he's been in the side, nobody could not be influenced by his crunching tackles, spectacular goals or his work rate). I think the club needs to make a statement and do all it can to sign a world class centre mid( I know it will be difficult), we have been blessed with Gerrard for 17 years and we will not fully realise that until he has gone.
Stevie, it's been a pleasure to watch you throughout your career, in fact I remember when Kevin Keegan was the England manager (I was doing some work for him) and he asked if it was true about this young kid at Liverpool being a great prospect, I told Kevin there and then he was going to be a world beater and that he would be England captain one day, Kevin duly picked him for his next England squad, I wasn't wrong was I!
All the best Stevie, you've given me some of the best times of my life, (it's ok my bird doesn't come on this page)
YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE.

Steven Gerrard, my hero. I never thought the day would come when I would be saying goodbye to the one of the most important people in my life. Feels like losing a family member, and in a way he is, because this is more than just a club. From the moment he stepped on the Anfield turf we knew we were experiencing something special. The emotion he has brought to me and the club over the years makes him the best player the club has ever seen in my opinion. Gutted he's leaving, but time flies and all good things must come to an end. Absolutely dreading the final day of the season.

True gent and footballing legend. YNWA Captain Fantastic.

I saw Steven Gerrard play right back against Coventry at Anfield when he was only about 18 or 19, and he was outstanding. I knew then we'd got a really special player. For all King Kenny's ability, he was somewhat limited as to where he played, but Gerrard has been immense in every area of the pitch for 15 years. Our greatest ever player. I still think he has more to contribute than the vast majority of this mediocre squad and therefore don't agree with those who think he should go. However, I still can't get out of my head what happened at the end of last season, and it would not surprise me if the realisation that his last chance of winning the league has 'slipped' away has played a large part in his decision to go. Completely gutted. Thank you Steven Gerrard. Hope to see you managing our great club one day.

{Ed001's Note - Dalglish is head and shoulders above Gerrard. Dalglish never refused to play certain positions nor held the club to ransom over a contract either. He also never got involved in the off pitch shenanigans that Gerrard has done. Dalglish also made those around him raise their game, something Gerrard has never done, if anything those around him are made to feel lessened by him on the pitch. Great player, but not even close to the greatest, I doubt anyone who lived through Lidellpool would even consider Gerrard in the same breath as Billy Liddell either.}

2.) Gerrard wasn't as good as Souness either, Souness had the lot, nails hard, defensively sound, an attacking threat but was a true leader on the pitch.

3.) I will always say that Kenny was the best player we have ever had but he did have the luxury of having great players around him. Too many to mention. Some of the dross Gerrard has had to play with over the years? Too many to mention!

4.) 02 Jan 2015 13:12:38
In your opinion Ed, how close could Fowler have got to Dalglish's mantle if he had stayed clear of injury and not been bombed out by Houllier?

Cheers

{Ed002's Note - Within yards.}

The United fans are out in force I see. Sorry for you're loss, must be tough knowing that you've lost a player who's got more songs being chanted at Old Trafford than any of the current United team.

Mikey, I'm not sure if you read the whole post, but I guess you don't quite get the point. He's a role model for any young footballer, myself included when I was younger. If you think he's not a great role model, then I don't know who is.

Dazw, I don't but thanks for taking interest in my personal life, really is relevant to my post, good job.

Stand-United, I'm guessing you're a United fan (not that it makes any difference, I'm looking at it from a Liverpool point of view). Its the age old argument really isn't it! Gerrard/Lampard/Scholes. As a Liverpool fan I'd say Gerrard is better, as a United fan you'll say the other's are. All are great players, but in my opinion, there is no "best" just "favourites". There is nothing to say any one player is better. For example, Gerrard has more goals and assists than Scholes, but that does not make Gerrard better. All have their own qualities. Some will say Gerrard made too many mistakes to be considered the best, but that's because he was willing to take risks. In my eyes, he's the best because he's my idol, but I'm saying that as a Liverpool fan. Different people will have different opinions I guess, but at the end of the day there is no way of actually comparing the three.
Cheers,

I'm guessing Lovren is starting mostly due to the fact that Sakho is injured and Kolo is only back from AFCON (although Yaya started for City yesterday).

In terms of Sturridge being on the bench, he's only back from a long-term injury and has played our last 5-6 games. He needs a break sooner or later, and although today is such a big game, it's more important we have Sturridge for the rest of the season.

As far as Balo and Lambert are concerned, Mario I'm guessing is being punished for his disobeying team orders. Not sure about Lambert but I'm guessing it's something to do with the fluidity of our play.

Unlucky EMS, I know how you feel! Was in training a couple of months ago and hyper-extended my ankle on collision after following through from a shot I took. Caught the defenders knee and my foot stretched right back. Went to the doctor and I was told it may be a slight tear in foot/ankle ligaments and I should be out for about 6 weeks. After 6 weeks I went back playing, still felt pain, went for an x-ray and turns out I had broken my talus in my foot. Now I'm out for 5 months! I've only played one game this season, and its the only game we've won all season!
