Well disappointed to lose, but a cracking match. Great to see coutinho, studge and origi back. Benteke so very unlucky not to score 2-4 goals today but worked hard and linked well I thought.

Tex and coutinho and smith linked very very nicely i thought, great to see some hard tackling from flanno as per usual.

Even though it's a loss not feeling too down beat, another day would've seen I flurry of goals (for either team to be fair) but we looked more positive and creative.

Come on you reds.

another day without benteke maybe.

2.) 10 Feb 2016 00:42:12
Wiseryan, lay off the lad, mate. The guy must be blaming himself for the loss he knows he should have won the game for us. Support the boy because his confidence is shot and needs encouraging instead of slating him.

3.) 10 Feb 2016 05:32:43
No offence redohio but if it's good enough for Migs it's good enough for benteke. He was poor and doesn't deserve a starting berth at the moment regardless of his confidence crisis.

Anyone else feel that our set pieces are wasted 99% of the time? ibe/ coutinho/ lallana/ Moreno/ hendo need to work massively on set piece delivery that or we need to sign someone who can swing in a decent corner

Corners and free kicks have been very very average.

Bring Gerrard back.

2.) 14 Jan 2016 04:22:49
Agreed. why do I feel so scared when we concede a set piece yet so bored when we win one? Major problem for us at both ends.

We need a more dominant aerial presence at CB, a more commanding GK to control the box, and someone capable of whipping in dangerous crosses.

Perhaps Matip and Ward can help with the former, not sure I see someone obvious for the latter. Coutinho or perhaps even Brad Smith most likely to be able to step up?

3.) 14 Jan 2016 04:37:45
Our set pieces (especially corners) have been poor for years now. I can't believe managers haven't noted and improved on them.

4.) 14 Jan 2016 05:22:35
Slightly more than 99% I think.
Been this way for ages.

5.) 14 Jan 2016 05:55:55
They have been for a long time mate - we can neither use them effectively nor defend against them effectively - a massive achilles heel.

6.) 14 Jan 2016 06:32:30
Couldn't agree more. It's infuriating at times!

7.) 14 Jan 2016 09:03:09
Agree totally re set pieces, bit of a waste of time for us at present.

What baffles me at present is Migs. I appreciate we might have to "protect his value. " But if the rumours about a pay rise and a 5 year contract are true then that's crazy.

I hope Ward turns out to be decent for us - we need a decent keeper.

Fellow reds and eds,
I'm excited at the prospect of seeing what our young talent recently recalled from loan can do, especially as it does seem (and has been repeatedly mentioned by the eds) that the loans these kids have been on have not been thought out in anyway whatsoever to be of benefit to their development. Hopefully under the guidance of Klopp and being around the 1st / training together etc they will develop more. And hopefully will only go out on loan of it is to a club that plays a similar style or will actually give them the game time and support they need to develop. Going back to the injury crisis, as I mentioned earlier it's unfortunately not a huge surprise the numbe of injuries. The ACL's for Gomez and ings were extremely unlucky (and it does seem like there has been a large number of ACL's this season) . The hamstring injuries are a combination of not having a good pre season (lacking strength and endurance work) which may be Rodgers' fault or his strength and conditioning coach (if he had complete control over what was done) . Klopp's training methods and style of play is extremely demanding and by the team attempting to be brought up to speed in-season is clearly very taxing and unfortunately trying to play at high intensity on fatigued muscles can lead to soft tissue injuries. There's no point in trying to place blame on Rodgers or Klopp or even the fitness coach. It is what it is. We have to deal with it and move on, as I stated in an earlier post I expect to see us being a lot fitter and energetic next season without anywhere as near as many soft tissue strains. Ligament tears can be due to lack of adequate muscle strength and control but a lot of it is down to incidental contacts and this is very hard to plan for. Sorry for the long post. further I think Klopp is very muc doing the right thing with studge and the "mini-preseason" he clearly needs extra strengthening and conditioning and I really hope they've got some one working on his core strength which may actually give him a reprieve from the injury issues (possibly) . As I mentioned in an earlier post I'm a musculoskeletal Physio (sorry really not trying to blow my own horn here) but if people were keen for my input on some injuries etc i'd be happy to post a few bits and pieces as I'm able to? Read the site multiple times in the day. Full kudos to the eds and the majority of intelligent and interesting conversations from all posters.

Again sorry for the novel!

a paragraph or 2 would have been nice.

2.) 08 Jan 2016 12:27:34
They will not do well in exeter match. There is no training they got. So likely a disjointed performance today.

3.) 08 Jan 2016 13:02:39
I would have considered Ojo's loan to be working out well, gaining good experience in a tough league.

Ilori's was very bad alright.

4.) 08 Jan 2016 13:20:33
Ojo hasn't featured much at Wolves this last few months. Their fans think he was a good impact player but not a starter. He is still very young, so let's not judge him too soon.

5.) 08 Jan 2016 13:24:11
I enjoyed the read.
Don't know about the others Q but i'd be quite interested in ways in which they should be strenghthening the hamstrings in order to stop the pulls/ tears? Particular exercises in the gym or would it be on the training ground?

6.) 08 Jan 2016 13:26:36
He was injured for a period which didn't help FYI.

7.) 08 Jan 2016 13:36:14
Nothing wrong with an essay :-)

Hi reds or ed's,
Was wondering with it lookin like marko grujic is going to sign if anyone knew what type of midfielder he is? Reading wiki which states he is a midfielder but was wondering if anyone knew if he was more of a box to box, dmc, amc etc etc.

Cheers lads.

Yaya Toure.

Very gangly, but very strong, powerful runner, wicked shot and great eye for a pass. Not a lot of defensive awareness but he's only young. He gets caught upfield when the opposition counter attack.

Only been following him for a few games though as I'd never heard of him before our reported interest!

2.) 04 Jan 2016 11:55:34
I think at his age and experience he probably can't be pigeon holed just yet.

3.) 04 Jan 2016 12:31:14
In the latest interview he say he idol is Matic which is exactly what we need in middle of park. But the downside is he said his fav team is Chelsea. So i can say he is should hardworking physical like matic, he is very honest a bit too honest but not very clever.

4.) 04 Jan 2016 12:49:07
His idol may well be Matic but I think he is far too attacking to ever be a dedicated holding midfielder like his fellow countryman.

He ventures forward literally every time his team attack. He could play as part of a midfield duo alongside Can, Lucas or Henderson though.

He would have to be coached into a holding player though if that's what Klopp has in mind for him. Taught when to break forward and when to hold.

{Ed002's Note - You needto consider the league he has been playing in.}

5.) 04 Jan 2016 13:03:56
Let chelski pay 50m in a couple of years for him then.

Eds and Reds,

Another 3 points but not the most convincing of performances again, I'll take the clean sheet and Big Ben getting off the mark happily tho! anyone else notice that there seemed to be massive lack of communication on the pitch? Couple of occasions 3 Liverpool players stand looking at the ball expecting one of the others to claim it, example was lovren hendo and I think Milner edge of our 18 and almost gave up a shot on goal. There were a couple of other times as well and then lallana in particular getting caught in possession after just receiving the ball, no one talking to him telling him man on? Now to be fair he should already have an idea of his surroundings and know he's got someone up his clacker but a bit of talk on the pitch wouldn't go astray. Anyways 6/6 is a decent enough start, start firmino next week I reckon he needs to be involved from the start and as he tires bring ibe on to stretch arsenals defence.

I was going to ask eds and reds opinion is that emre lacks awareness when receiving the ball as he can at times get caught on it, or is that there is a lack of communication happening on the pitch?

The way I was screaming this morning at him that there was a player up his clacker I'm sure he woulda heard me all the way from Darwin!

Solid performance, some really good bits of play, occasional sloppy pass towards the end was frustrating but a sign of fatigue perhaps?

It's a combination of both Klopp and Rodgers, Rodgers for not having the players fit enough or strong enough (and if not Rodgers then the strength and conditioning coach must shoulder the blame if he has free reign on the preseason fitness work) Klopp has come in and has obviously pushed the players extremely hard to get them up to speed to what he wants which carries inherent risks while also playing a high volume of games as we have been. It's always very difficult to get super fit while trying to match ready in season. I'm confident with a full proper pre season under his supervision that next season we shouldn't see these hamstring injuries occurring as badly, barring unforeseen circumstances. But as ed 2 has said Klopp may need to alter things slightly due to the number of games and no winter break. And yes Chelsea must be at fault as well ;)

Fanobip, being a musculoskeletal Physio myself it's really making my brain hurt at the number of hamstring injuries we are doing, you're right in that previous injuries are a major risk factor and while the warm up is important I think these injuries are just highlighting how under done our preseason was and clearly there needs to be a much stronger focus on hamstring strengthening and flexibility but just importantly more work on core strength as well. get them on some Nordic hamstrings and specific core strengthening work and should see a decrease in the injury rate. And most importantly a properly staged preseason under klopp's guidance will massively reduce the rate of inujjuries next season (Cleary doesn't help us present tho)
