Looking down at the earlier post regarding strikers, we have been blessed with watching some of the finest in the game. If we are talking number Nine's then it will always be Ian Rush. Rush was the best defender of the lot and he would be Klopps dream player in that position. At the time when he was at his best there was only 1 striker better and that was the untouchable Van Basten. What a player he was.280 games 218 goals finished his last game at the age of 28.Best striker in a red shirt Rush.

I think the lads did well yesterday, but how many of that side will be apart of our squad in 18mths time? Ojo and possibly Smith are the only 2 that I think will still be with us come September 2017.

Add tex to that and i think your right mate.

2.) 09 Jan 2016 13:23:48
Brannagan and Kent as well.

3.) 09 Jan 2016 13:27:39
That's five already and don't forget Canos as well. Six is a decent number, don't your think?

4.) 09 Jan 2016 13:58:00
I don't think Brannagan is getting enough credit. It was his full debut, his first ever senior game (he's never been on loan), he was playing in a position that isn't his preferred role (he's usually an attacking midfielder) etc.

He showed great composure and technique, excellent passing range and vision, some crunching tackles, covered well for the full backs, got up and down for 90 minutes, won most of his headers despite his height.

I honestly thought he was the best player on the pitch by far. It is no suprise he is making the bench every week under Klopp if he is playing like that during training.

{Ed001's Note - didn't he play in the Europa League?}

5.) 09 Jan 2016 14:07:22
Is this judged off one game? Because one game, on a bad pitch when they are also playing with only one natural CB who hasn't played any games is definitely not a good representation of who will be playing for us in 18 months. I think if they read this site seeing there names slaughtered is more of a reason for them not playing for us in 18 months time.

I know there is people that watch them quite regularly and fair play if that's your opinion which is baded over a period of time. But people basing it off one game need to actually need to stop making such rash judgements. They played there best which is more then some of our senior players can say.

But as people have said it was great to see them play and I look forward to the anfield game.

6.) 09 Jan 2016 14:09:12
I would be happy if 2 made it. Tex and Ojo. I certainly don't think 6 at all, especially if you really mean pushing for a start in the first team? I don't think that's realistic.

7.) 09 Jan 2016 14:09:33
Yeah he's had a few minutes in the Europa Ed but this was his first start in senior football in his life. Thought he stepped up wonderfully.

{Ed001's Note - he started in the League Cup it was, I just checked. I knew last night was not his debut.}

8.) 09 Jan 2016 14:12:10
I can't remember if he started a game earlier in the season in the league cup, but either way he was the least experienced player on the pitch with regards to senior football.

9.) 09 Jan 2016 14:16:08
Ahh fair enough Ed. I did think that just after I posted it but couldn't remember if I was confusing him with Rossiter.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, I had to check myself as I wasn't fully sure. I see so much football these days it is beginning to blur into one big long match in my head!}

The lad has been on the wish list since Klopp came mate. He has tracked him since he bought Mikhy a few years ago. Chelsea have tracked him also. I can see heartbreak lads with Chelsea doing a willian again. But to be fair Chelsea have been negotiating for a long while. Keep fingers crossed cause the lads top draw.

I heard we have offered 32million euro's but they want nearer 50 million. I think he will go to Chelsea in the Summer. What a player though.

Sinclair Knows where the back of the net is. But he sees other young players earning massive wages and he doesn't want to wait for the big dosh on offer. Unfortunately the money in the game is one of the reasons that these youngsters think they're big time Charlies. Players of yesterday had to keep working hard to stay in the game. Now it's a case of earn a big sign on fee and multi million pound contracts for having potential. These kids aren't bothered about who pays them, just who pays them the most. At Exeter Sinclair showed he can put the ball in the net without breaking sweat. He also put an extra 0 on his signing on fee.

Steven Gerrard did the same with Suarez when the Arsenal offer came in. Told him to have a great season with Liverpool and Barcelona will come calling, and they did.

It is important to have a experienced centre back as cover considering we have had to switch Lucas to the back 4 in 2 games. I think it's a no brainer. He's good in the air and as most say it's not the case we have spent a fortune on a long term contract for him.

I liked Clough too Ron, but Taylor was the good cop. Taylor was great at finding players. People say it was Taylor who picked the players to sign, when they split, Clough couldn't find someone who was as good a judge. That's where Sir Bob beats Clough hands down Bob was a good judge of players he hardly made a bad signing.

As Ed01 says Sir Bob may of took charge of a side built by shanks after the F A cup final 1974, but by 1978 there were only 3 of that cup final line up in the European cup final under Paisley. Clemence, Thompson and Hughes. Sir Bob built teams.
Sir Bob was more ruthless than Shanks. Shanks stayed loyal to his old players, Where Bob would edge them out of the door.
Steven Gerrard wouldn't have made that famous slip under Paisley, because he would have been moved on before that season.
Sir Bob was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes.
Many say Bob would have moved Kenny on too, if he hadn't retired in 1983. He actually dropped Kenny from the team in his final season.

I have enough faith in Klopp to know where he stands regarding the Defenders we have. Lovren when fit has been our most consistent back 4 player since Klopp arrived. I honestly believe our failure at set pieces is down to our goalkeeper. A keeper should dominate the play, our keeper doesn't.

You say quality not quantity which I agree with, so we should by 1 or 2 quality players each window. We should trim the squad of average players. Brendan bought way too many average players in the last 2yrs.

I like the look of Payet, I think he will prove to be a top player for which ever club signs him. If Klopp is to be judged fairly then surely we should let him choose the players he wants.

Left back in the changies lah

{Ed002's Note - Payet will sign permanently for West Ham in March or April.}
