Southampton: we want £50m for lavia

Liverpool: here is £37m

Southampton: that's not what we asked for

Liverpool: Take it or leave it

Southampton has just left the chat.

It just seems a pointless exercise to me and a complete waste of everybody's time.

The sad thing is we know Liverpool can do deals quickly and with no fuss when the mood takes them, so why we resort to this just baffles me.

We would not appreciate it if other clubs acted like this so why do we do it.

Southampton have done nothing wrong, once they got relegated they would have had valuations in mind for there best players, they have told the world what they want for lavia which is £50m not £37m.

If we cannot negotiate with southampton after all the experience we have had in dealing with them, then who can we deal with?

We have already been blacklisted by sporting Lisbon, we really should be acting in a more professional manner.

Am I missing something here, but all I’m reading is some journalist has said our opening offer has been rejected. If true that’s fine isn’t it… and presumably happens often…? Not sure what the issue is. It might be best to let it play out and ignore the attempted hour by hour update from journalists. Anyhow, let’s hope we get some of targets over the next month or so ?.

We have done nothing wrong here, every club in world football negotiates, if we get Lavia for £45 million that's £5 million saved. Chelsea wanted £60m for Mount, United paid £55m, Al-Ettifaq wanted Hendo for nothing, we wanted £20m, we settled on £12m.
This is just moaning for the sake of it.

{Ed025's Note - i agree Thunderbird mate..

King Kenny - How many deals have you done that are £10m+? They are experts, regardless what the amateurs think when they think they know better, it will get done if the right deal and not if it isn’t. No stress. Big boy stuff.

Kingkenny Ed002 stated we had tapped up a sporting player that’s why they don’t want to deal with us. We have not done that with Lavia we have made an offer they have said know but that is called negotiating if we just signed every player we wanted with negotiating we would just get our pants pulled down every time. There is nothing wrong with negotiating is the tapping up we need to stop because that costs us more money in the long run.

{Ed025's Note - spot on grino..

Kingkenny7, Why would we offer the exact fee they want at the first time of asking? Have Utd offered the 86m Atalanta wants for Hojlund at the first offer? Did Chelsea offer the 100m at the first offer for Caicedo? Seriously, I don't get what you're complaining about.

This is a typical negotiation practice that all clubs engage in at the ealy stage of negotiations so essentially you are complaining about something that every club for the most part does? Come on, man.

As for the blacklisting and all that, that was for tapping Sporting's player (Ugarte or the other kid), and I have not seen anywhere in this forum where it has been said that LFC tapped up Lavia. Just allow the negotiation process to play out first then, judge after that.

‘They should just pay up get your hands in your pockets FSG etc etc’ it gets me every time. There’s a reason why some people are experienced dealers and negotiators, but most people are punters.

If we end up getting Lavia for the 50 mill asking price in a week or 2.

Does that mean we negotiated well or not?

King Kenny
It’s like buying a car.
It’s for sale at £500, you have £400 available, your still bud £350 to save £50 to get it for a better price

And I love that people post, get corrected and don’t respond beyond that ?‍♂️.

Bang on Gazza, another example is eBay. Someone might set a buy it now price, you are guaranteed to get the item but pay more, or bid and see if you can find a price that works for both parties.

We are on a tight, I use that term loosely compared to us ordinary folk, budget so why splurge on the asking price if you can try and negotiate a better deal.

I think we will eventually get Lavia for 40m plus 5m add ons.

Good deal all round and we save 5m and Southampton make a profit of about 30m after sell on fees are taken off. They can then buy Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester for 6m to replace Lavia.

Win win for everyone and Man City miss the boat as they would have waited till next year to buy him back for £40m.

I appreciate all the replies and that includes you Ed025!

First off all i don't take drugs and that includes headache pills.

Correct i don't work in sales!

Southampton are not running there going outs on the same lines as e-bay.

Football money is a world away from how the real world works, we all know that.

I actually bought my car for a bargain price of £1000, and 6 years later i have still got it.

Lastly i was not moaning, merely sharing my thoughts on the situation.

Thanks for reading and replying. JFT97 Y. N. W. A.

She wasn’t keen…?.

Liverpool ARE allowed to offer a price that they think is fair and to be honest I think £37 million is decent for a player like Lavia.
I remember being told how much Dortmund wanted for Bellingham. He didn’t go for anywhere near that price.

I look forward to letting you sell your house to me for a lot less than the market value BP!

If we had offered £50m Lavia would be on his way to becoming a liverpool player.

Southampton have set a price they want for the player and expect that price to be met, its a simple as that!

PS: My opening bid for your house is £10,000.

KK7 - it's a negotiation mate. I think you're letting your frustration about transfers in or out get in the way here. What you've written in the OP sounds like what might happen in lots of negotiations.

22.) 26 Jul 2023
26 Jul 2023 03:44:01
Its not negotiation when the selling club sets an asking price. Its testing waters and wasting time. Soto need to keep the player as being back in PL is most priority for them.
Making inappropriate bids after several hours of discussions is waste of time. Liverpool know what to do. They did it for 2 players this window already.
Ultimately if we have identified the player and will end up paying 45million for him why not bid it get it done and have the player integrate with the team in time.

It’s anything but negotiating.

26 Jul 2023 04:49:11
how do we know it's a waste of time? Maybe we get closer to our evaluation for a 19 year old child. maybe we don't. doesn't mean you don't negotiate.

26 Jul 2023 05:48:35
FSG have made a bid. for one of their targets. It's an offer that as been rejected.
Let's see how it goes, at least we have an offer on the table.

25.) 26 Jul 2023
26 Jul 2023 06:16:54
@Wishy-washy, FSG have not made a bid, Liverpool has. FSG may own us but they are not directly involved in the day-to-day running of the club and definitely would not make bids on behalf of the club. It would help if you can see us and FSG as two separate entities.

26.) 26 Jul 2023
26 Jul 2023 06:40:05
I work in sales, it’s about negotiation and relationships. If Liverpool pay £50m it could be they get better and more favourable terms over which they pay the fee.

27.) 26 Jul 2023
26 Jul 2023 07:02:39
Some weird takes in this thread. Every club negotiates on the price for a player and it has always been that way, why are some folk suddenly expecting this to change. None of us actually know the price that Southampton expect to get for Lavia so it’s all pure speculation anyway. Bonkers comments.

29.) 26 Jul 2023
26 Jul 2023 07:42:03
There’s surely something in here about real market value?!

Using the house example of the MV is £900k and I put it up for £1M the likelihood is I ain’t going to sell or I sell to a buyer that, in his mind, has no alternative house available.

Here I think there are both alternatives and maximum MV to consider.

There's no such thing as "real" value. There is only "perceived value". What someone is willing to pay for an object or a service is based entirely on the utility to him/ her. Nothing is non-negotiable in this World, just a matter of looking around at the circumstances and seeing what you can achieve in terms of getting "the biggest bang for your buck".

Even KingKenny7 knows this himself, so I have no idea why he posted that complaint about negotiating. He called his £1000 car "a bargain" . That's perceived value. And I doubt he paid the asking price. He then proceeds to (jokingly) offer £10,000 for somebody's house. Again negotiation and perceived value.

No difference between small and big business. The size of the brains running both, are the same. Just big business has more zeros in it.

31.) 26 Jul 2023
26 Jul 2023 13:36:17
Akira2, how do you know how many hours the negotiations are taking? How do you know it is a waste of time esp. if all clubs and other people in sales and business acquisitions do the exact same thing? Again, your logic is not based in reality.

You say we should just bid what they want. Utd know the price for Hojlund. Did they bid that the first time? Did Chelsea not know that 100M was he price for Caicedo? Did they bid that at the first offer? Man, relax. This is standard procedure. That is simply what it is and Southampton themselves know nobody will bid 50m for as the first offer.

Oh look, just read that we are make an improved offer for Lavia you know, standard procedure and all that. Who knew?
