Ed's, do you think Madrid's reluctance to pay the asking price for Alisson could mean the door is still open for a move to Liverpool?

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea how to answer this - you are not expecting Roma to sell him cheaply to Liverpool are you?}

Not at all, what I mean is florentino Perez has publicly scoffed at Roma’s asking price, maybe Liverpool would be willing to pay more?

{Ed002's Note - More than what?}

Ed2 is the fee roughly £44m as reported or is that wide of the mark?

{Ed002's Note - The fee for what?}

The fee requested for alisson.

{Ed002's Note - They would look for something like €90M.}

I think Ed002 is trying to break it to you all gently that Alisson is going to Madrid.
We had interest but he wants to go to Madrid, Madrid want him to go to Madrid, so he will go to Madrid.

He's not worth €90m in my opinion. That would be complete ineptitude and reckless spending. I'd rather stick with Karius and spend €90m on an attacking midfielder and back up winger!

As always Ed002, your insight is appreciated! Thank you, señor!

Question for MK : would you be happy for Liverpool to pay €90m on a player to win the league?

For me, sticking with Karius forfeits any chance of the title.

Ron, Karius has only played 29 Premier League games. How can we write off a 24 year old keeper after less than a full season of matches? In those 29 games He's let in 26 goals and kept 13 clean sheets.

You can't credit him entirely with that impressive record because there are other factors to consider, but it does make it pretty clear that he isn't so bad that it is detrimental to the team over the course of a season.

The problem is, the OP is 100% correct. Football fans are fickle. Karius has had two bad games for Liverpool in nearly 50 appearances in all competitions. One against Bournemouth and one against Real Madrid. How can you say he isn't good enough to win a league title when he was good enough to help us to the Champions League final?

I've seen teams win league titles with worse keepers than Karius! Joe Hart, Kasper Schmeichal, Iker Casillas, Victor Valdes etc. €90m on a keeper is ridiculous. If the 10 men in front of them are good enough they should be a spectator for about 20 games a season.

I would love a top class keeper, but for €90m I would expect Oblak or De Gea! Not Alisson. That's just my opinion though. I can live with a 24 year old keeper showing signs of improvement, who has 1 bad game in 25. Contrary to Popular belief, even De Gea has at least 2 bad games a season!

I think whatever happens, our goalkeeper next season will be under the spolight. That is just the culture that Simon Mignolet has created with 5 years of below average performances.

Because of the standard set and scrutiny attracted by Mignolet, Karius is micro-analysed. I don't think he is a top keeper. He is definitely a good keeper, but he does have flaws.

Unfortunately, he picked the worst game he could possibly have chosen to have a bad game. Maybe it was concussion, maybe that had no affect. Either way he made the errors.

I would urge all Liverpool fans to have a look at what Bruce Grobelaar said about Karius though. Bruce had his fair share of second chances and now he would be in about 50% of Liverpool fans all time best XI's. Maybe I'm too loyal, but If Klopp decides to stick with Karius (i doubt he will, but hypothetically speaking) then I will not be losing any sleep. For me, our priority is replacing Coutinho and then signing a back up wide forward so that next season Salah can be subbed off for the last 15 minutes, without us crumbling and becoming toothless.

If there is still €90m hanging around after That, then I'll condone wasting that on a keeper who is fast becoming vastly over rated. He's not an instant saviour and he certainly doesn't guarantee a league title. Last I checked, Juventus won Serie A.

Totally agree with that MK. If Karius is out GK next season then that’s fine by me, we should get behind him and support him because I think there is the potential he could be a top class keeper but he just needs to work on things mainly decision making and concentration.
I too would love a top class keeper to come in but there is only so much I would pay.
YNWA.

The voice of reason as ever MK. I have been guilty of over acting as concerns Karius if I'm honest.

People saying we can't win the league with him but we very nearly won the ucl which is probably harder to win with Karius in goal.

I don't think Alison is worth 80mil and I agree, I would rather spend that money to sign a world class playmaker. Karius isn't that bad but on the other hand, I don't wanna describe any of our first 11 as "not that bad" if Alison moves then navas is surplus and despite some people's views on him I think navas would make us harder to beat.

14.) 15 Jun 2018
15 Jun 2018 16:35:49
So in Karius 29 games for Liverpool and his 13 clean sheets can anyone remember a game where he gained us a point or even 3 points.

15.) 15 Jun 2018
15 Jun 2018 16:30:45
I maintain that if we can’t get an elite level keeper, then keep the money and invest elsewhere. I would add that our midfield will be in far better shape next time we’re in a final. Do you think Bale would have had time to line up that shot with Keita snapping at him or Fabinho closing him down? No he wouldn’t. Will Karius look twice next time before throwing the ball? Of course he will.

16.) 15 Jun 2018
15 Jun 2018 16:43:26
Prince hendo, Navas would not make us harder to beat. He makes worse mistakes than Karius could ever make. Have you ever actually seen him play? He’s appalling. He’s not fit to wear the shirt. He’d be targeted by the teams that play long balls into the box because he’s a flapper who does not deal with crosses very well. I’m assuming you must be aware of how badly Bravo has done at City? Because that’s what we would be buying with Navas, as they are almost carbon copies of each other in terms of ability. If we aren’t getting a top drawer keeper then stand by Karius and support him. He won’t be as exposed as he was next season behind a more solid midfield containing Fabinho and Keita.

We won't lift a single trophy with that Keeper. Get rid and buy a top one like BIG TEAMS who win things do. Sick of mediocrity.

€90m is a lot for Alisson. I think if we offered £50m for Courtois, there's a chance they'll listen as he can go for free next year. But it's not my money, if the owners and Klopp think it's worth it, I say go ahead. £75m for VVD seemed to be way too much but turned out to be a great signing.

{Ed002's Note - Why would Courtois want to move to Liverpool? Why would Chelsea be interested in such an offer for a player Liverpool have zero interest in?}

19.) 15 Jun 2018
15 Jun 2018 19:53:11
We nearly won the champions league with Karius, we didn’t win it BECAUSE of Karius.
It is much harder to win the premier league than the champions league. Knockout is always easier than league.

If Klopp doesn’t upgrade Karius, next season will probably be his last. The owners want to see us win something.

I'm not saying they would interested @Ed002. I'm saying it could be worth a punt as he is out of contract next year. He also might not be interested but if you don't ask, you don't get.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect you really don’t understand how the whole transfer process works.}
