sorry but Moreno is always one rash tackle away from giving a penalty or being sent off. Always goes flying in and missed leaving the left exposed. Sorry but Robertson for me should get the nod over Moreno every time!

1.) 17 Sep 2017 10:29:57
Wasn't at fault for anything that's been wrong this season. So be fair to the lad.

2.) 17 Sep 2017 10:48:26
Mr D your right with your comments. He may make the odd mistake during a game but to be fair to the lad he's done well so far compared to others.

3.) 17 Sep 2017 11:00:04
And he's also worked hard on his game.

4.) 17 Sep 2017 11:32:28
So if he doesn't make an obvious mistake leading to a goal he's good enough? No matter how many panicked, rash challenges he makes (his yellow card against Sevilla was one of the most needlessly stupid tackles I've seen a player make, and he was lucky not be sent off later in the game), how bad his positioning is, and how many times he pushes on too early in move trying to be a left sided forward and we have to work the ball back inside instead of being able to exploit space down his flank, if he's not directly responsible for the concession of a goal he's doing okay?

Do you what that is? The same logic that made Mignolet 'good enough' second half of last season when it should've been plainly obvious he wasn't, and the majority have once again copped as much at the start of this season.

Look I appreciate our entire defence is liable to make mistakes and Moreno hasn't been the worst of them. And unlike some of the others, he has a good attitude and he doesn't ever give up. But the simple fact is 7 assists in 77 starts (& 20 plus sub appearances) is not enough of a trade off for his defensive frailties. And whilst Matip, Lovren and Klavan have been worse, in any game at least one of them will have to start, so we're stuck with them until January. But we're not stuck with Moreno because we bought a new left back who's already demonstrated more composure with his use of the ball and would be hard pressed to be as rash in the tackle and as poor positionally as Moreno. So we should use him instead of Moreno.

5.) 17 Sep 2017 11:52:18
100% agree Something Red đź‘Ź.

6.) 17 Sep 2017 13:06:18
So tell me who is better an available?

7.) 17 Sep 2017 13:33:42
Better than Moreno?

Robertson 🤝.

8.) 17 Sep 2017 13:35:30
@ Readinghurts

Look at the last paragraph again: "But we're not stuck with Moreno because we bought a new left back who's already demonstrated more composure with his use of the ball and would be hard pressed to be as rash in the tackle and as poor positionally as Moreno. "

You do know that's Andrew Robertson I'm talking about, yeah? That's who's better and available.

9.) 17 Sep 2017 13:51:53
I think the point that Dennis is making and I agree with that is that we have conceded a lot of goals this season and they haven't been because of Moreno so changing Moreno will not fix the defensive issues.

In fact if we are being truthful he has been one of the better of our defenders. admittedly that is comparing him against some very poor centre backs and two kids playing right back.

10.) 17 Sep 2017 13:50:19
Klopp rates / trusts Moreno! So there is nothing you could do Ron / Something.

11.) 17 Sep 2017 13:53:14
Absolute rubbish. Moreno was our best player against seville. He has been a revelation this season. Technically he is so good now. A bit dodgy defencively but if he keeps making goals I'm happy.

12.) 17 Sep 2017 14:08:02
Moreno not at fault for giving Jesus (and Silva) the freedom of the 6 yard area for City's second goal?
He was stood next to Jesus when the cross came in and stood admiring his technique instead of challenging.
That's someone who has no clue about defending.

His primary responsibility is not goal creating, its defending. If Mane, Salah, Firmino and 3 midfielders can't create goals then Moreno is useful, but we don't have a problem creating chances, we have a problem preventing them.

13.) 17 Sep 2017 14:11:40
Navy, the point I'm making is a defender isn't necessarily good enough just because you can't pin the concession of a goal directly on him. There's a bit more nuance to evaluating a player than that.

I said that he hasn't been as dodgy as the others, but unlike the others, we have an alternative to Moreno that we should be using. Moreno's competition for his place isn't with Lovren, Matip or Klavan, so it doesn't matter if they're worse than him. His competition is Robertson. And in two matches, I've seen enough to think Robertson is the better player.

And Superred, I can't help you if you don't see what a player does outside of what makes the highlights reel. I've already told you what his assist record is for Liverpool is, namely 1 every 11 starts, and it's not enough to offset how poor he is defensively.

Would he still have been our "best player" against Sevilla if he'd gotten a second yellow? Cos the ref bottled sending him off (and Machado about 10 minutes later too. And then inexplicably sent off Gomez for his only two tackles in the game), but he still made a daft yellow card challenge whilst already on a yellow. The fact that he got away with it doesn't it was smart. That's the sort of poorly thought out decision making that's defined Moreno's entire Liverpool career and will continue to do.

14.) 17 Sep 2017 14:24:27
The reason we are such a good attacking team is because our fbs get forward, our cms get forward thus flooding the opposition box with red shirts. Moreno and taa fit our style very well. Defence minded full backs would not work so well in our system.

Last season moreno was just as lax at defending as he is now but his final ball wasn't good enough. This season his final ball has been brilliant. Whenever he gets the ball in opposition half we look like scoring. Another thing with moreno, and I know he is small, but he is tough little smegger. That seville defender who kept fouling mane, moreno had a quick word with mane and two minutes later the seville player is on his arse. I like that in a player.

15.) 17 Sep 2017 14:39:17
Moreno has been decent this season - I can't understand fans constantly hounding and criticising him. Yes his game has flaws but he has improved significantly and looked far, far better this season. Is he rash? He has his moments and needs to work on them. Is he the best defensively? No, but he is decent and, with better centr backs helping him out he'd be able to play his game better. For me Robertson looks much more assured defensively but Moreno looks the better/ more incisive player in attack. They have both done decently so far this season - lynching Moreno when he has shown improvement is bizarre to me.

16.) 17 Sep 2017 15:03:33
Spot on Seano. Good post mate.

17.) 17 Sep 2017 15:14:32
In fairness to the lad Moreno has improved.

18.) 17 Sep 2017 16:22:54
Until Robertson gets a few games we won't know how good he is at left back. Moreno has improved but he's had years at the club, we've just bought a Robertson and he's had a couple of games and being compared to guys here for years. Let's give Robertson the position and it's up to him then to either own it or lose it.

19.) 17 Sep 2017 19:34:31
Moreno is a head case and a red card and mistake waiting to happen even tho, he is yet to make the mistake. Also, the red card was very close to happening vs Sevilla and when he goes flying into tackles, my heart skips a beat.

Sorry but for those saying mane has to leave, you are all clueless. Firmino has to leave, for me, despite what a great player her has been for the team, he doesn’t bring that anymore. He can’t score, he’s lost pace, he hardly tracks back, he was largely missing from the game against arsenal, which has been the case for most of this season. So for me, the first person out of the front three that should be sold should be firmino, as much as I hate to say it.

All I can say is some big decisions needs to be made. klopp has clearly run out of ideas, the players can’t score or defend anymore. if we could, I’d say get rid of the whole lot of them. We lost a few players, but no team has gone as backward as we have. We are the laughing stock of world football at the moment!

I am sure I read it somewhere (might even have been from one of the Ed’s on here, although I could be mistaken) that if we end up getting fifth and Utd come in second but win the europa league, then we do make it into the champions league.

{Ed002's Note - No, there would be no fifth place in that case.}

I agree with the Ed that the current Real Madrid team aren’t as good as the one from few years back. However, having said that, they are still a decent team with quality and experience in all areas, regardless of age. Ed077 said they are sloppy and lucky to still be in the title race, yet in Spain, they are always in the title race every season, so actually in that sense, they are consistent. So despite a lot of players past their prime, they still have a lot of quality and so to me are a decent team, even if they aren’t as good as previous Real Madrid teams. Look at it this way, they didn’t have their main CBs playing, just like us, and yet they bossed the game and defended really well.

People knocking kabak, yet they forget he is still very young, only 21 years old, and still has a lot to learn. Also why are people talking as if they didn’t know that our defence is out weak point and that Real Madrid wouldn’t target two young and inexperienced centre backs with their world class forwards? It was always going to be a mismatch. If you are going to start talking about getting rid of players then you might as well get rid of most of the squad because they have been plop since returning to play after the first lockdown. Remember, Trent has had a shocker all season and he has not defensive awareness against Real Madrid but I don’t see anyone saying he should be got rid of. I’ve been critical of certain players this season but you cannot single out certain players to be gotten rid of, when most of the team sucks at the moment!

You’re having a laugh, aren’t you? Lol. We are terrible at home and have been beaten by teams a far less capable than Real Madrid. I’m hoping you’re being sarcastic, others I know the number of a good shrink you can use? Lol.

I think there are a lot of very overly optimistic fans on here. yeah sure we might beat RBL, more due to the fact we have a two goal cushion, but remember, we didn’t outplay them in the last game, they made two silly defensive mistakes which allowed us to score. Had their finishing been better, they could easily have beaten us. Plus even if we do get past them, do you honestly think that that is going to change anything? We beat them in the away game and yet literally every epl club is queuing up to play us because it’s an ear 3 points to them. We beat Spurs and then West Ham and you’d think we should have got some of our confidence back after winning two games on the trot, and we did play well too, but nope, it hasn’t helped one damn bit. The fact is this season is a write-off, not because of the C.V., but because we just haven’t been good enough. I believe that Next season will be good for us with no European football, meaning less games, and we will have a injured players back. Does that mean we will play any better? The likelihood is that we won’t. We have been underperforming since we won the league so I don’t believe that having VVD and Gomez back will make us title contenders straight away. Yes they will improve the team but other teams around us have got stronger, both player-wise and mental fortitude. And without being in European competition next year, the likelihood of attracting top players is going to be slim. I think the issue here is that we have been found out tactically. We play a very high defensive line, despite not having players of the required Calibre in those positions to play such a high line, and all other teams do is hoof the ball over the top and with so much space behind our defence for opposition forwards to run into, it’s likely they will score. Playing players out of position is also contributing to the overall
Imbalance within the team. Klopp needs to change his tactics but at the moment, he’s just sticking to what he knows stubbornly, with the only changes being in man power, even though some of these players just aren’t good enough (Keita, Shaq, origi, Milner, wijnaldum, Trent, mane, firmino) . I have included Trent in that list because he has been very very poor this season, his passing and crossing has been terrible and he can’t defend to save his life, also mane and firmino have also been included because at the moment, these two players couldn’t score in a brothel, let along a goal in the premier league.
