Tchouameni, lots of sources saying we want the lad and are favourites to sign him. I know you said no bid yet eds but has anything changed? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Aurelien Tchouameni (DM/CM) Juventus, Real Madrid and Chelsea have a declared an interest in the player and have held discussions with Monaco. However, after signing Zakaria and being close to signing another midfield player, Juventus can now be discounted as they look to other lower-price midfield options to cover departures, with Monaco's financial demands being seen as significant. Real Madrid opted for Camavinga last summer and have yet to realistically exploit him - and they will concentrate on other priorities but cannot be discounted as Casemiro might leave in the summer - but again, they are smarting at the asking price and have asked Monaco to consider a deposit to secure him for a transfer next summer at an increased price. Monaco see that as a loan to buy and it does not suit them. The interest from Anceslotti to have both players in his midfield has to be balanced against other transfers, and there is a good chance he may not be coach next season. Real Madrid would almost certainly look to also including one or more players in any deal - and they may opt to push for Pogba instead - but don't discount them PSG need to make significant changes to their aging midfield and have spoken with his agent, although not yet Monaco. Again, I would not discount them but they have others in mind as well. Chelsea had a creative solution in mind that would suit both clubs and will likely push for a deal. I would not rule them out. Manchester City have a list of potential Fernandinho replacements, including Tchouameni. Other clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund have looked at him and spoken with his agent, but have not declared an interest to Monaco or they have preferred midfield targets at this time. Monaco have told clubs that they are not looking to sell for less than €100M but realistically it will be less than that. For Liverpool it would be a pretty much like-for-like replacement for Fabinho in midfield - but they are not looking to move him on and whilst speaking with his agent, have not spoken to Monaco just yet. Barcelona would be priced out of a deal unless players would be taken in exchange as they have other plans for their money this coming summer. It is difficult to imagine any side paying the asking price. Monaco have said they won't accept a player exchange but the player has made it clear wants to move to Real Madrid but that may not be possible for cash.}

Has anybody seen him play? Who is he similar to?

Physically he reminds me of Pogba with the tall lanky frame and deceptive slow stride. Tackling he reminds me of Fabinho; loves to tackle from the side or behind. Drives the ball forward like Hendo and Thiago with accurate long passes. Your standard box to box midfielder. I'd like to see him fill out that frame more, because the EPL is a physically demanding league to play in.

To my mind he’s the perfect midfielder for how we play, he works hard, passes well, presses, tackles and will only keep getting better.

Whilst he would provide back up for Fabinho, i don't believe that he is being bought for that purpose. A player with that talent is not coming in to sit on the bench, on the contrary he is being brought in to be a starter. It is Hendo and Naby's places who are under threat from this lad. The fact that he can play as DM is a bonus.

Spaceman? Are you saying naby has a place? Only place he has is on the transfer market mate.

From the point of view of back-up for (key) players we really don’t have anybody to cover for Fabs for an extended period. Apart from Fabs the nearest we have to a fit for DM is Tyler Morton, who is still a good way off being ready.

If the front five remain I’d say a DM (even if it’s a back-up player is a priority for us.

He would play with Fab, not in place of.

I hope Klopp insisted on an above average spend for his final years from FSG. If they want to keep abreast with City, who could go up another level once Shrek arrives, we need to be seriously on point in the TM.

Tchouameni is more than just a defensive midfielder as he’s also capable of playing box to box. I think he’d be perfect for us as he puts a shift in defensively and has a very good range of passing.

And can bang in a few long rangers too. He is ideal to the total football style Klopp demands.

@Lancaster Red, what even if Fabs was injured? Which was the point I was making.

He is one of the most combative midfielders around, able to marry high athletism (defending intensity, 80 out of 99) with good timing and match reading intelligence (ball recoveries and interceptions, 85 out of 99).
His high scores in aerial duels quantity and defending impact suggest he is not only a busy holding midfielder but a successful one too.
Tchouameni can contribute strongly to his team’s attack and make late arrivals into the penalty area and score goals (that’s all the good scores in blue) .
Tchouameni is a talented off-the-ball defender and a promising in-possession passer. Plus, he has an eye for a goal. He is as close to the “do a bit of everything” midfield archetype that former United players talk about in the modern game. He is unlikely to stay that way forever but he is young enough, and with enough promise in multiple subjects, to suggest he can be any type of midfield player that he chooses to be.

@WD no i was replying to the suggestion he would be a like for like replacement for Fab from the Ed's Info, think he would be a powerhouse in our midfield and the exact opposite of Keita, who i can't bare to see in the Reds line up next year.
