I think Jones is a liability because he gets injured so easily and misses a lot of the season. I would move him on asap.

if he is not passing sidewards or backwards, he is trying to curl the ball into the top corner, which very rarely results in a goal.

By your own logic, Jota is a liability as well. So based on your own logic, should Jota go as well?

I think that’s harsh about his ability.
He needs to stay fit and then I think he’d be a regular.
He’s got a good chance with Slot, I think he’ll get the best out of him.

I don't think you can accuse Jota of passing sideways and backwards too much. I would say he needs to do it more and not trying to do too much on his own.

He's a class player. He just can't get a clean run of matches. The sideways and backwards passing does get frustrating, I agree, but it's more to do with match fitness than anything else. Long layoffs make it hard to read the game as well. It's not only stamina that suffers. When he gets a run of matches his passing improves. I'd love to keep him, but it's 50-50 at this stage.

I think Ed001’s summary of Curtis Jones is fair, technically he’s he is very good on the ball, very good first touch, can beat a player for skill, but his decision making isn’t great, he lacks physicality (which for a guy his height seems absurd), is ponderous in possession, isn’t alert to danger and doesn’t read the game very well defensively, and always seems to take an extra touch when it’s not needed, that could be because he’s afraid of taking risks or it could be he simply doesn’t read the game very well. At this moment he is not a starter for me. He has a lot of work to do to get there.

The difference is Jota influence games when on the pitch by scoring goals @Oli Red. Jones doesn’t. There are far better players in the squad currently than Jones to play in midfield. We don’t rely on him. I would sell him and sign a top class DM.

In my opinion jones is probably the closest player we have to a wieffer type in slot’s system, he has the technical ability, the work rate and the ability to press and recycle the ball, the question is whether he can stay fit and reach form to play that role consistently, some of his injuries last year were very unlucky to be fair (getting poked in the eye) ; here’s hoping he can stay relatively healthy this year.

{Ed025's Note - closest player to wafer seems about right to me PB.. ?

12 Jun 2024 16:03:52
He’s a wafer in the sense of having pure quality sandwiched in between crisp fundamentals, ed25….

{Ed025's Note - i thought very easily broken and does not really satisfy PB.. :)

Rigsby, He said Curtis was injured too often and that he is as a result, a liability at first so my post was directed at that point and clearly he did not respond meaning, that part of the comment is full of it, IMO.

As for the passing sideways stuff, that is what he is asked to do as he fits the possession style we were playing as one of Jones' strengths is his ability to keep possession of the ball under pressure. He also has the ability to get forward and score goals.

So for the poster to post such waffle and say all Jones tries to do is to bend balls into the top corner is also patently false cos he is confusing Jones with Salah on this front. The post is a shambles from top to bottom, IMO.

Iwillbered you don't half talk a lot of wham ?.

Tactics and injuries are what is stopping Jones from showing the player he is. Although we have seen it in bits.

Other players (e. g Mac10) played DM last season and was woeful. Yet posters on here and supporters, said it was tactics, wrong position. Then low and behold he is played in a more natural position and looks a word beater. Jones has played a handful of games in his natural position (attacking mid or left wing) . Remember his wonder goal against Everton years ago? He was playing in a more natural position for him, albeit for 15 mins.

Hes a good squad player who can still improve, let's hope his injuries stop happening under Slots training methods and tactics.

Oli, how do you know what Jones is told to do? What evidence is there for him being told to pass the ball sideways and backwards?
But you're right, Jones has the ability to score goals. He just doesn't do it very often. Unlike Salah.
