Quansah has plenty of time to pursue his England career this will be the last tournament for most of the terrible defenders he is taking. Shaw, Maguire, Walker are becoming OAP’s in football terms. Even Dunk and Stones are getting on. Quansah and Branthwaite will be the future centre back pairing.

Maguire isn’t in the final squad …….

Never said he was, merely pointing out that it might be the last chance he had to play in one.

It's great for us. He gets a full pre-season training with Slot. We're already likely to be without Virgil and Konate for most of the summer so Quansah has a huge opportunity to impress Slot and make himself almost a guaranteed starter.

Bad for England though because not one of the CB's picked would start ahead of Quansah under a competent manager. Just ask Konate who will probably start for tournament favourites France but got pushed out the Liverpool team by Quansah! The only 2 English CB's who even arguably had better seasons than Quansah were Tomori and Brathwaite who also didn't get picked. Southgate wants sectioning.

People are talking up Stones like he is the saviour, but the guy started 13 games at CB last season and finished it on the bench because he was in such poor form. Guehi had knee surgery and hasn't really played since, Dunk got pummelled weekly plus he currently can't even train, Gomez can't get a sniff at CB even when everyone is injured, Konsa played mainly RB for Villa etc. He's literally not picked a single CB with any consistent form in the role these past 12 months. There is no excuse either because he had 3 to choose from, 2 of whom were starters for the 3rd placed team in the Premier League and the 2nd placed team in Serie A.

Baffling.

I agree with everything you've said Adam, truly baffling alright

Though, as an Irish man, I'm totally ok with it ???.

To be completely honest Southgate has gone for experience at the back which in a major tournament is understandable. Quansah and Branthwaite or no doubt super talented but have only just broken through to senior football on a consistent basis.

The only question mark really is Dunk.

I’m a big cynic when it comes to Southgate but think he’s made the best calls he could this squad.

One f@ck up on his part in my opinion was not giving call ups to people like Tyrick Mitchell etc knowing full well how fragile Shaw and Chilwell are. It’s a madness not to have some fit natural LBs in the squad.

Ah ok shows how much notice I take of England thanks for letting me know. Looking forward to the tournament anyway just to see if I can scout any players. Will have my notepad and pen ready and will be sure to let you all know. My outside tip to win the tournament is Portugal with players like Leao and Jota along with experience Ronaldo Bruno and Silva they have some great attacking potential.

Shaq, I'm not sure he has gone for experience though. Guehi has 10 caps, none at a major tournament. Gomez has 14 caps, none at a major tournament. Konsa has 3 caps, all friendlies. Dunk has 6 caps, all friendlies.

I feel like if experience was actually a factor he'd be taking Eric Dier.

What I mean MK is he’s gone for most experience he had available to him.

Dier whilst experienced obviously doesn’t figure in his plans which I’m also supportive of.

MKS, no one has ever accused the Waist Coat of knowing what he is doing so his choices are not that surprising. At the end of the day, Quansah needs to solidify himself at LFC as a viable option (if not starter) at CB for LFC and not going to the Euro's with this shambolic selection of CB's will do him a world of good, IMO.

To be fair, if he didn’t have a blind spot for Shaw, Walker and Trippier the squad hasn’t turned out too bad.

I'm not a big fan of Walker but he's not that bad of a choice especially when you look at who else England has available.
He's consistently played at the highest level and can play as one of three centre halves or at right back.
I think he was an automatic selection for a team with such limited options.
