I have a question for ed25. Now that both Liv and ManU is up for sale, if you are a billionaire with lot of money to spend which club would you go for?

{Ed025's Note - well united are the bigger global brand mfahmee so probably them, but liverpoool have been very successful in recent years and are better on the pitch so it would depend on whether i wanted the money or the prestige i suppose mate..

For all the giving out utd fans do about the glazers they will do v well to get owners who spend as much on players as they do.

{Ed001's Note - well yes, because decent new owners would have to spend hundreds of millions refurbishing the crumbling infrastructure that the Glazers did nothing to invest in. Unless that is done, it matters little how much you spend on players, as the Glazers showed.}

They say the stadium and training ground is in bad shape alright. The glazers have obviously made poor appointments on the football side of things as well, doesn't seem to be any kind of method to what they do.
But bloody hell they have spent some amount on players, if klopp hadve got half that we would be going for 5 in a row!

Knowing our rotten luck, United get sold to a multi billionaire with bottomless pockets and we end up being sold to another bunch of American private equity/ vulture capitalists on a leveraged buyout. As the only people actually linked with buying us are that type (Pagliuca or Harris Blitzen, neither of whom are remotely fit to own us) .

Them being up for sale at same time as us is a disaster.

Have Utd seen or heard on the grapevine the interest in LFC and jumped on the bandwagon and tried riding our coattails.

Big Football clubs very rarely go up for sale so for Utd to do it within a few weeks of our announcement is either a massive coincidence or they are indeed trying to steal a March.

Question for would be buyers, United will be more expensive and would you want to own a club with supporters who wanted the Glazers out when they have invested in the club quite generously compared to others over the past 10 years. I think the Mancs will end up with similar owners to the Glazers.

With United you'll need to invest a lot in infrastructure and its a longer burn to get them successful again, but you'd argue their resell value and return could be much higher than ours.

Will be interesting to see if Liverpool and United both end up state owned. you then have 4 clubs with bottomless pits of money in the Premier league, all competing with eachother. Youd think those clubs will have no choice but to suddenly spend £200m, £300m, £400m every summer to keep on top, competing against eachother for the best players in the world.
Could make the Premier league a very interesting (and flawed) places in a few years time.

{Ed002's Note - You don't understand about FFP.}

Ed2 with both teams up for sale, and at the ceiling of their profitability, is there a bubble in European football. especially the Premier league that is about to burst financially.

{Ed002's Note - They will continue to grow but at a slower pace. The potential seen by the two clubs in Operation Bigfoot has been taken away from them. If you are looking to invest it is the time to look for better returns elsewhere.}

United have put their club for sale to spite LFC. I hope hicks and gillett buy them and put that spade in the ground you know the one from Stanley park.

I’m a little concerned about the future of the club and the league. Maybe I’m seeing this wrong but with state run Newcastle and city, they are destined to dominate the league for the foreseeable future. The rest will be owned by private equity or other consortiums that cannot compete financially. There will be odd years when other clubs will be able to sell and buy players and rebuild like we did and Arsenal are doing now but the over the long haul clubs won’t be able to compete. I don’t know what the answer is. Just venting and again I’m probably not seeing the situation correctly. This sell is hugely important for the future of our club. We cannot afford to have disaster owners like hicks and Gillette. Not sure we could recover again from that disaster. I can’t stand private equity either. I don’t know….

One thing i would say stone, we manage to compete against City is because of Klopp. Honestly, if Klopp is not our manager i don't think we would had even half of what we have achieved.

You are right in a sense that we need to get the right owner. Klopp will one day leave. A manager like him does not come too often.

If we get another H&G 2.0, it would be very hard to recover again. The ideal owner for me is FSG but on steroid.

Re FFP Ed2, I'll admit to not knowing everything about it but I think its safe to say there are ways around it, no?

If FFP really worked then Liverpool fans should not get too excited about new owners as, if we can only spend what we earn to an extent, then we can't expect to see a lot more money pumped into the club from a commercial stand point as it seems we're already squeezing everything out. Unless somehow new owners bring in a genius commercial team who can drastically increase our income legally.

My understanding is that the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle abide by FFP 'technically', but are being propped up by inflated commercial deals from organisations they technically should not have any dealings with, Newcastles new sponsorship deal from Saudi Airlines as an example.

If FFP works for all and any new owners for Liverpool or United cannot pump money into the club continuously, then fine, but my understanding and what has been widely reported is that state owned clubs seem to have found a way around FFP. And if Liverpool and United both get the financial freedom that City and Newcastle seem to have, it may make a big mess of the Premier league.

Happy to be corrected if I'm completely wrong.

{Ed002's Note - You are completely wrong. Newcastle have the advantage of Mike Ashley leaving them in a good place by not spending. Manchester City are working within FFP and got punished when they didn't, and one matter still remains open. I am sure many associated with Liverpool want to find a way to cheat the system.}

Can I ask Ed002. If as you suggest I would be better to look elsewhere for better returns then why is their still interest in buying a club like Liverpool, not doubt Utd as well at the crazy prices these clubs will go for? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - In some cases prestige and the desire to win; in other cases steady growth.; some cases portfolio building spreading risk.}

Fair point ed, for me without being bias i would say Liv. Just because the fact that everything is already there.

Compared to United who need maybe another billion to invest in training ground, stadium, infrastructure etc. Liv already got most of that.

In term of the management side, scouting etc, we got competent people doing it. They are being run by amateur as ed say. World class manager in Klopp.

Both squads need investment. But that maybe the only similarities i would say. Even then i would say they need more than Liv.

{Ed025's Note - your right what you say mfahmee but the biggest scope for making money would be united mate, their worldwide brand makes them an absolute cash cow..

I am not going to pretend to know the ins and outs of how FFP works, but if the supposed method of state owned clubs being sponsored by companies associated with those states is what is bringing them endless resources, I would say that the method of stopping it is pretty simple. Perhaps not in legal terms as I am sure connected companies like Etihad are clever enough to find work arounds, but if the source is obvious then so should be the solution if the powers that be actually wanted to do so. That desire isn’t there though so it’s a non starter but longer term City/ Newcastle winning everything every year won’t be good for anyone, including them.

Watch "FIFA Uncovered" on Netflix. You'll see how the Qataris came to purchase PSG and the rights to the French League. Disgusting. I'm hopeful FSG stick to their word and put the club in the hands of the right owners.
