Nice review Ed,

Must say I wasn't too impressed with Jota, he does a good job of picking up goals but I don't think he bought much to the team as a whole.

I'd quite like that front 3 to be experimented with a bit, maybe get players working harder for a slot. Salah is a guarantee but I'd like to see Taki get some more gametime, maybe even Jones on the Left a few games, it might not all work out but I feel like players fighting for a spot might increase performances abit.

{Ed001's Note - that is a good idea, certainly Jota worries me if he doesn't score he is more of a liability than a help.}

{Ed001's Note - very welcome Salah, good to see you are about mate.}

Do we know when Minamino will be available again? He looked very sharp in preseason either on the left or in the middle interchanging with Sadio. Would love to see him get a start. I'd keep Jones in midfield and give him a chance, haven't seen him being effective as a LF for a long time.

{Ed001's Note - Liverpool aren't very good at giving out information like this, but last I heard was he was not expected back for the UCL game. He is being rated as having a slim chance of being back for the weekend, but that is more through a lack of information to those that track injuries.}

Has there been an update on Bobby’s injury? I thought Jota struggled against Leeds and his passing was very lose. However Ox came on and made Jota’s performance look incredible.

Lol JK, the Ox bit got me in stitches. I enjoyed the read Ed01 as usual. Cheers.

ed001 that's why I would all ways start Bobby over Jota am not sure if it's because Jota is playing out of position as I think he is a wide left player. Bobby's form has not been the best for a while now so come the summer I think a new number 9 should be the first piece of are front 3 to be brought in but with Salah and Mane only having 12 months left then we might need big changes up there if they are not renewing there contracts. I don't think Jota is at the level of Mane or Salah so I don't think if they left we could challenge with them 2 gone and players of his level replacing them.

Ah that's what I thought, thanks Ed001. It's a pity for Taki and us, especially with Bobby out at the same time. Hope he's fit to start the EFL Cup game at least. Will be interesting to see if Kaide Gordon gets a chance in that one, too.

If Salah and Mane had played like that with Firmino on the pitch, most people on here would have said it was because of Firmino. Jota beats players, creates room, he made chances. His movement in and around the box is far better than Firmino and it is helping the other 2.

I love Diogoal so much, he’s my favourite player atm (maybe just because he’s relatively new) because i love his unpredictability and ability to pop up with a goal out of nowhere, he’s a proper centre forward, in his movement and the way he takes his chances, and i always feel like a goal is coming when he’s on the pitch. However, it must be said that his passing is not up to scratch for a top team and like you say he can be more of a hinderance than a threat if he isn’t scoring, that simple pass that he put behind Mane was absolutely criminal. Here’s hoping that a year of actual footie with actual time to train between games can improve that and bring him up to the level required of a top forward, because he has the pure striker stuff mostly figured out already.

Excellent review once again thankyou Ed001. The Reds really do look like they’re back, they’re hungry and they’re p*ssed off. The all round performance levels i’m seeing from some of these players atm, Salah, Trent, Mane etc i haven’t seen before (or at least in 18 months), they look as hungry as ever to win the lot. Exciting times and buzzing for the Milan game. YNWA.

{Ed001's Note - I have to admit, I am really excited for this season, we are looking damn good again.}

AW I thought Jota’s passing around the park in general was poor in the build up play. The pass you talk about is actually a harder pass than it looks. He is in motion and has a gap between the keeper and the defender (which he’s closing) to find mane who is running full speed. If he takes a bit off the pass it probably gets cut out by the keeper and if he plays it anymore to the left or right the same by either keeper or defender. He’s having to judge the speed Mane is running at as he is going full tilt. If mane is half a yard slower it’s a simple tap in as he runs onto the ball. Passing the ball to any player whilst he’s running at speed and them not having to break stride is all about quality and a little bit of luck.

Cheers ed1 mate, keep meaning to give you an email but always forget later on when I get home. Hope you're well mate.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, just so long as you are ok, that is the main thing. Yeah all good here cheers.}

I noticed even when Mane would miss or misplace a pass he still had a smile on his face. I think he is at his best when he is smiling and enjoying the game. When he is downbeat and angry he is largely poor.

Brilliant as per usual Ed, great write up. Very sad about Harvey’s injury. Hope he comes back soon, as I’m loving what I have been seeing from him. You’re right when you said we could have done with him last season, too.

{Ed001's Note - let's just hope he comes back stronger.}

Ed01, you are in midseason form already regarding your match reviews. I fully agree with all you have said. Two points: Mane. I am happy you have singled him out for enormous praise cos the outright slander he was getting after the game was pretty pathetic and sad, IMO. Mane was absolutely brilliant and all his contributions were well documented in your review.

For me, I think his issues in front of goal mostly have to do with what's going on in his own head rather than his actual ability cos clearly, he's still got it. If he just calms down and let's the game come to him instead of getting in his own way, he'll be great again in front of him. The guy was arguably the best in his position for 3 years, IMO so we need to support him in his hour of struggles rather than slander him.

Second point? Jota. I have always said it. The guys is absolutely lethal in front of goal and is a goal poacher which at times is what we need. Apart from that, his all round game needs some SERIOUS work. There were times that he seemed unaware of where he was and made aimless passes where no one was there. Also, he runs into spaces where either Salah or Mane or even Robbo often occupy; Either way, I love him and as long as he is improving this side of his game and scoring goals, Im good. Cheers, man.

{Ed001's Note - Mane has always missed a lot of chances, I think people just forget that because we created so many he still scored loads.

As for Jota, I am hopeful that he will improve his all-round game over time.}
