"if you'd told me we would be third with a cup in hand last season I'd have snapped your hand off"

People only ever say that on the back of a poor season. Would you say the same after we won champs league or premier league?

You wouldn't. That just means that now we don't believe we are better than carabao cup. Personally ill never accept a club of our size, wealth and stature should ever snap someone hand for losing in the league (if you don't win it then you lost it) and a league cup win.

I didn't expect the premier league this year but I did think a completely achievable goal was europa league and we failed to even compete for that.

If you offered me third place and a cup for next year I'd slap your hand away and say I believe we can earn more.

You're spot on mate. It's a little bit cringeworthy seeing people pretend it's acceptable to have the league in our hands with 8 games to play and arguably the more favourable run in, only to finish 3rd. Not to mention we just had to beat a dreadful United team and then Coventry to be in an FA cup final, and we also got drawn on the favourable side of the Europa league and lost horribly to the team 6th in Italy.

Like you, I'm not having any of it. Would I have taken it before the season? No way. We spent £160m on a brand new midfield. I expected us to challenge for the title and win the Europa league, and anybody who says otherwise is lying to themselves because a huge number of Liverpool fans already have hotels booked in Dublin! We should've strolled that competition and everybody accepted that we were the overwhelming favourites. City might well have more financial power than us in the Prem, but in the Europa league we were the financial juggernauts so there is your proof that money doesn't mean a damn thing if you don't do your jobs.

We've well and truly bottled it and reading people try to justify it makes me feel a bit sick. Blame the players, blame Klopp, blame FSG, blame the fans; I don't care who you think is at fault. But don't pretend that is acceptable at Liverpool to be in a strong position for 3 trophies and then be realistically out of the running in them all in the space of about 4 weeks.

Agreed a trophy is great, but missing out on the league due to poor tactics and our manager who earns £15 Mill a year giving effective control to his assistant for two years which has derailed us is not acceptable, its been a poor season regardless of the trophy in the bag.

We came 3rd in 20/ 21 it was seen as failure we won a cup so it’s not as bad but we cannot allow this season to be passed off as a good season. Fans holding the club to the highest of standards is a good thing.

Fair enough Onekiss, but were also competing and been outspent by two very good sides in City and arsenal. No one wants to accept 3rd as the status quo but i for one believe were going to finish where we are at the moment, a little bit behind Ars and Citeh. that's not to say with a few clever signings and fresh ideas and enthusiasm we can't bridge that small gap next year. I don't think very many fans if they are being honest expected us to win the league this year, i would have taken top 4 and a return to the Champions League.

I feel we are in for a summer of big change its really possible big names could leave on the basis they came in with klopp and it will be the right time to go with him . Also certain players might go because they were promised a future with klopp now he is leaving. If star players leave I am absolutely fascinated to see what we do with edwards, hughes and the slotter to replace such players with question marks over them vvd, trent, diaz, nunez, definitely mo, scarily Allison etc and off course the manager.

Out of all those players, Allison is the one we need to fight tooth and nail to keep. VVD, Trent, Salah, Diaz, Nunez are all replaceable (though Salah will be hard to replace like for like in terms of goals and assists), finding another top class keeper would be extremely difficult.

30 Apr 2024 12:45:58
As would a centreback of van dijks level.

28 Apr 2024 21:27:31
I imagine as a new manager to the PL Slot will pick players he knows can perform in a certain way for him. Nothing worse than buying a couple of players and they turn out to be useless and your creditability sinks fast. All these names from different leagues are unlikely to happen early. First signing will be from the Dutch league.

Edward and Hughes will be making those decisions and Slot wil be happy coaching them think it was clear why slot (head coach) was preferred than Amorin (a manager) ?

What does everyone reckon for the academy’s lads who’ve been in and around the team for next season? For me

Kelleher: (wasn’t aware he was 25!) Done as well as you can expect from a backup keeper think we cash in probably best for both parties £25m+ we could replace him with Jaros who’s doing well on loan or Patterson from Sunderland has been mentioned

Bradley: Been fantastic. Keep and rotate with Trent.

Quansah: I think a loan might do him the world of good playing every week. Spend big on a Matip replacement to partner Virgil. Then in 12 months see how Quansah kicks on could replace Konate if he can’t keep fit.

Beck: Cash in on Tsimikas and use Beck.

Bajcetic: I think DM is another position we spend big on (Thiago replacement essentially) Have Endo as cover. Get Bajcetic out on loan for a year playing every week then let him replace Endo in 12 months time.

Morton/ Carvalho: Hopefully Hull come up and they can spend another season there, both doing very well but I think we probably cash in on both.

Clark/ McConnell I think we keep one around probably Clark and get the other out on loan

Doak/ Gordon/ Koumas: Loan one. Doak annd Gordon very unlucky with injuries I think Gordon needs the game time more though.

Danns. I think we move on Salah/ Diaz. Meaning Jota/ Darwin up top. Keep Danns because between Jota missing games and Nunez blowing hot and cold I think he could explode if given the chance I just think Klopp has been hesitant to throw him into a struggling team.

Alisson/ Patterson
Trent/ Bradley
? / Konate
VVD/ Gomez
Robertson/ Beck
? / Endo
MacAllister/ Grav
Szobo/ Jones/ Clark
? / Elliott/ Doak
Jota/ Darwin/ Danns
? / Gakpo/ Koumas

Fill in the blanks with some new signings. Thoughts?

Hanko, openda, mbeumo, Somerville, koopmeiners, Lloyd Kelly, guuertruda of feyenord, varela, gykores, and more.

I am against sending Quansah out on loan. I feel that he would develop better if he stays on with us. He clearly has the potential to be a top CB and developing his game training with VVD and Konate would be good for him.

Same with Baj as well. He and Endo can rotate for the DM position, with Baj eventually overtaking Endo. Not sure why we need to spend big on a Thiago replacement, considering that he only played a handful of minutes this season. Makes little sense to me shunting out a player with huge potential out on loan just so we can spend big on a new player.

Gordon, Morton, Kelleher, Carvalho would be the outs for me. Gordon hasn't progressed much due to his injury and he should be given a chance to make it elsewhere in another team. Kelleher is a good keeper and deputised well when Allison was out injured but he won't be first choice unless Allison leaves so again, for his career, I think he would leave. Similar case with Morton. We are stacked in midfield and I can't see who he would displace. Carvalho is a frustrating one. Good numbers while out on loan indicates he has the talent but his work rate worries me. Popping up with a goal and assist occasionally while remaining anonymous for the rest of the time is not good enough for a team looking to challenge at the very top. Unless he fixes that, I can't see him making it at a top team.

I do agree with the rest of your post. Personally, I do see RW being a priority regardless if Salah leaves or stays. That position could be filled by Szob being played further forward though. And I think an LCB is needed as well to be the eventual successor for VVD.

29 Apr 2024 11:53:43
I think we should spend big to replace Matip and Thiago even though they didn’t play much this season. Squad was thin this season because we didn’t have them if we have player of that level who are fit for most of the season it would be a HUGE boost for the squad.

29 Apr 2024 17:52:28
I like Quansah, Danns, Bradley and Bajcetic.

I don’t know much about the others.

I think Kelleher might be off for the sake of his career, which would be a shame for us.

Eds - how does it work when a coach reaches agreement to join a team (but they are still mid-season with their current team? For example, will Slot be able to actively engage and start shaping plans for our new season, making decisions, etc? Or, can he only do so once the Feyenoord season ends?

{Ed002's Note - He will have to see the season ot where he is.}

Isn't a shame we are going to be playing possession based football next year and thiago is leaving. Why we ever bought him to play under klopp never made sense and set us back with his chronic Injuries. In a possession based side he would cook.

Agree3

29 Apr 2024 05:42:25
We bought him because we are/ have transitioned into a posession based team. Look at our stats in recent games. We dominate possession but our issue is that we don't do much with the ball. The opposition game plan is easy. Let us have the ball until we misplace a pass and attack us on the counter.

28 Apr 2024 14:46:29
Best for all if Salah leaves. He has forgotten all the trophies he has won under Klopp. I find his attitude and body language stinks. In my 40 odd years of supporting Liverpool, I cannot ever remember a player disrespecting our manager on the touchline for all to see. Always appears a sulky player whenever he is subbed off or on the bench. Thanks for the last couple of years MO, but no player is bigger than the manager or club. So off you go.

Amen Elliot Ness.

"Last couple of years"

Nice to see SEVEN years of being one of the best players in the league being paired down to something that can be handwaved away.

I don't understand this need people have to re-write history cos of a few weeks. Going on with Klopp too.

28 Apr 2024 18:05:37
What if he joins a premier league club an starts banging goals in?

28 Apr 2024 19:18:23
Well "Something Red" if your best mate since school shagged your missus I suspect you might fall out with him!

28 Apr 2024 20:54:20
I can’t think of any club in the premier league who’d stump up what we’d be asking for Salah to be fair hailstones.

28 Apr 2024 21:18:13
He should be dropped from the side for his actions without doubt. Does not deserve to play in Klopps last game. He has turned into Cristian Ronaldo attitude wise and is stinking the place up. He is definitely all about himself and to hell with anything else. Now I understand why Mane couldn’t stand him all those years.
