Hi guys,

I have just checked the fixtures and noticed that the home game v WBA which follows a Thursday night Europa league game hasn't been moved to the Sunday as of yet. Is this just an error on the LFC site or have I missed something as to why it is still on the Saturday. I only ask as I am coming up from Plymouth for this match and want to make plans for the trip in the near future. If anyone could advise as to when the game will actually be played that would be great. I am 99.999% sure it will be the Sunday but wanted to make double sure.

Thanks

{Ed002's Note - The games will be rescheduled when they are divided up for television. As you say it will be on the Sunday.}

It's amazing and enjoyable to see how one signing (subject to medical) can change the mood on this site!!

I have to say that news of a potential new deal for Illori and one of the Eds thinking that maybe an agreement for Skrtel to leave may have been reached, on top of Firmino signing, has made for a pleasant couple of days to be a red!

LFC have for once acted swiftly and in good manner to get a deal over the line and it's refreshing to see them do so! I don't remember being so excited about a signing since Suarez and before him Torres!!

Hopefully we can add a ST, possibly Kovacic and Clyne, whilst keeping Lucas too and I'd say we are on the right track!

Bacca will do nicely 😊

With some more luck maybe Kovacic!

Come on ayre do the business lad.

Good morning,

Was thinking about our potential back 4 for next season. I have seen links with Clyne, Trippier & Montoya so that indicates we are in the market for a RB, which I am happy about so long as Manquillo is sent back to Atleti.

I would then like to see Wisdom given a chance as a CB, I believe that is his natural position, but will stand corrected if wrong. His athleticism and build, as well as being decent with the ball could see him and Sakho form quite a partnership given the chance. I would rather him play there than Skrtel or Lovren at present!! With Moreno and a new RB as full backs.

The right back I would like us to get would be Montoya. He has looked very good when I've seen him play, defensively and going forward with the ball. Being kept of out a side by Dani Alves doesn't make you a bad player by any means. Training with/up against the likes of Messi, Suarez, Neymar, Sanchez, Pedro etc. in recent years will have sharpened his thoughts and awareness defensively, you would think. As well as being around a squad of winners which will only be beneficial to him. He is at an age where he needs to be playing week in week out, if we give him that platform he could flourish and prove to be a shrewd signing. We could probably get him in and Manquillo out for the cost of Clyne's transfer fee, too.

What do you guys think?

chris_plym_red

1.) 13 Jun 2015 11:28:20
Completely agree with everything mate.

Montoya is far superior to Clyne defensively and Wisdom deserves his shot in his proper position. Even if he doesn't cut it, we can just play Toure or Lovren.

Excellent post.

2.) 13 Jun 2015 11:34:10
Montoya for me and can play both RB and LB when needed.

3.) 13 Jun 2015 11:44:06
I agree that a right back would be coming in based on interest in Clyne, Trippier, Byram and possibly even Montoya. Markovic, Ibe, Henderson, Johnson, Sterling, Emre Can are all players who were used ahead of Manquilio in a position which more suits him which suggests that Manqulio is not needed and will be send back. I also don't think Wisdom wouldn't have got a new contract if Flanagan was fit.

Whenever I have seen Montoya play, he looked average. IMO, there is no chance of Wisdom being played at CB; Lovren, Sakho, Toure and Skrtel all have seniority and LFC spend big on Sakho and Lovren; they will probably be the ones starting, and definitely, Lovren needs to step up in a big way. He has had the worst season I can remember of a LFC CB in recent times, even Kyrgiakos and Coates had half decent games when they played.

4.) 13 Jun 2015 11:57:10
For me clyne and montoya are both on a similar level. Neither is world class but both The potential. But I'd prefer Montoya as he would be a cheaper option as compared to clyne as him being English and all. But i think we may be signing Clyne.

5.) 13 Jun 2015 12:09:56
I'd love Montoya, just not while we have the circus that is Enrique influencing these spaniards!

6.) 13 Jun 2015 12:11:08
Rather we just give Wisdom the chance to nail the RB spot down. Good defensively and good with the ball at his feet. But i'm sure we will make another signing we don't really need to.

7.) 13 Jun 2015 13:42:10
I don't think Wisdom is the answer at right back and i definately don't think Moreno is the answer at left back. I understand that in the modern game that the full backs are required to get forward and help the attack but i want my defenders to defend first and foremost. Especially with our defensive woes.

8.) 13 Jun 2015 14:28:28
Irish, which kind of makes Wisdom a good choice as a RB. He is good defensively. More so than Moreno IMO. I would much rather have left and right backs who are more defensive than attacking, sure push forward and help out with our attacks, but first and foremost being good defensively is more important.

9.) 13 Jun 2015 15:46:45
One thing though brisbane is that full backs end up with a lot of space usually when they do push up and it is sooo frustrating to see a ball crossed straight out of play which wisdom did do often at right back but he could have of course improved. but overall I think I would like to see him given the chance at cb ! Gets up very well for someone who I thought was much taller!

To anyone that would know what has happened to mcclaughlin ? I kept hearing rave reviews (admittedly had only see him play a handful of times without standing out for anything really) but I kep high hopes based on what others said then I think I read the other day that he had sealed his fate or somethinglike this so what happened? Is he still an option

10.) 13 Jun 2015 16:51:25
Montoya? Seriously? because he comes from Barca doesn't mean he can play and in fact, he's no upgrade on Wisdom or Flanno because they have played consistently for the past two years especially Flanno who has proved himself and he hasn't. Montoya spent most of last season in street clothes than on the pitch so how is he suddenly better than Wisdom who played consistently before the clueless Pulis took over at WB? He and Clyne aren't good enuff for diff reasons so IMO, give Wisdom his shot and see what he can do instead of wasting funds on a poor defender and another who is a good attacker and not a good one one one defender in Clyne.

11.) 13 Jun 2015 19:03:23
Pre season i'd really like to see ilori and wisdom given a chance. If rogers stays with the the 3 at the back. Why not try sakho ilori and wisdom as a partnership. Can just in front bringing the ball out and tackling as a dm.

Cue the meltdown now Depay has agreed deal with Man Utd. How our business/targets get leaked so easily is criminal and makes the club look so, so amateur when the deals don't get completed.

I'm gutted Depay won't be joining us.Hhe has the potential to be a great player and is better than what we have currently in his position, but a striker has to be the priority! If we were able to get Vietto I would be happier than had we signed Depay. Although I fear we will end up with Ings and Benteke and won't move forward at all.

Should Sterling go, an outcome I wouldn't be too disappointed with, I hope we go for Son from Leverkusen. I read that one of the Ed's is a massive fan of his and I share the same opinion. Would he be interested in a move to us, does anyone know?

Keep positive guys!!

chris_plym_red

1.) 07 May 2015 13:28:42
Depay was never coming here as many had mentioned here because Utd was always going to be his destination since mid season so no shock there. We need goals and Son or Vietto along with Studge and Origi will do the business, along with a new manager, of course

2.) 07 May 2015 14:02:08
Redohio, do you really think 3 from those 4 would be substantial? If we had all 4 of those mentioned I would go into next season with a fair amount of optimism, a long with a new manager, as you mentioned. I fear though, that BR will still be in charge come August and we will have gone through a totally underwhelming summer!!

What would you do with Sterling? I think the fee we would likely receive would be too much to turn down considering the need for top class players at the club, not 'potentially top class', we have enough of those on the books already.

No matter what happens though, I will still support and love LFC, as we all will. I just hope that we some silverware to play for come April/May 2016 and the seasons that follow!

3.) 07 May 2015 17:24:02
I'm with you, Chris. BR is the prob and not the players. If he remains which I hope not, then the owners will regret it and I just don't think they will let it happen. I may be wrong but I praying right because I am fed up with him and his incompetence and disgraceful behavior in the media. Our squad is good enuff. They are just are just severely under managed. Like you, I'll be red till I'm dead regardless of who comes and goes because they are employees but the fans remain loyal.

Happy Friday eds and fellow reds,

Haven't posted in a while but I have been checking the site hourly hoping for a ray of sunshine breaking through the black cloud currently sitting over LFC.

First and foremost I think the managerial situation needs dealing with as soon as the final whistle is blown on the last game on the season, but the playing staff is obviously a grave concern too!

With all the names I see us linked with daily, I do not see any real defensive midfielders linked, I know it's all hearsay and paper talk, but surely certain people would get wind of any interest in DM's too.

In my opinion this, along with a 20 goal a season striker and Mr Klopp MUST be a top priority. Having said this, I cannot think of any one player that is realistically attainable that would sufficiently improve us. Would like to here other posters' opinions on this and who they'd like to see brought in, as I really do think it's a position we need to address as soon as we can! I am a fan of Lucas, but he has his injury issues and could well be on his way, which would leave us with Emre Can, who'd still be playing out of position there, and Joe Allen(I like his workrate and effort but he's just not up to te standard required, hoping he moves on). Or, are Rossiter/Williams ready to make the step up on play on a regular basis, I would love for that to be the case but feel we need an established player in that role to help them blossom into the top players they have the potential to be.

I look forward to reading some responses and here's hoping for 3 points tomorrow and a performance to go with it, to lift some of the gloom!

chris_plym_red

{Ed002's Note - The club persuaded Lucas to stay in January so I doubt he will be going anywhere in the summer.}

1.) 01 May 2015 12:12:37
That is excellent news Ed! I thought he still had his mind set on Inter Milan.

If he stays, we don't even need a new holding player. Lucas, Can, Williams etc is more than enough.

2.) 01 May 2015 13:32:01
Great news! Lucas has a good few years in him at the top level, as long as he stays fit! With everything he has been through since arriving, his mental strength and experience along with actually being a very good player will only help nurture the talent of Can, Rossiter, Williams and other young players coming through!

Now let's hope Klopp is at the helm next season and we manage to bring in a proven goalscorer whilst shipping out those that are surplus to requirements. Anything on top of that, for me, is a massive bonus.

3.) 01 May 2015 16:01:44
Things change in football though, and I have a sneaky suspicion that Lucas still has his heart set on a move, just for the sake of a change. Plus, if Rogers is still in charge I would think brining in Milner is to replace an outgoing Lucas, because he's too injury prone. I'm not sure Rogers really rates injury prone players bar sturridge, who is beyond injury prone. I would love to keep Lucas, would save us so many headaches and he is our most important midfielder, but he is annoyingly injury prone. Having said that I would rather Milner or Lucas as back up to eatchother as oppose to Allen. Allen plays well against lesser teams that do not press. If you play a high pressure game then Allen becomes absolutely useless. Decent squad player though.

4.) 01 May 2015 16:41:53
I love Lucas to bits, genuinely top lad and actual captain material, but i'm genuinely concerned that he has such bad injury problems that I would sell Allen and bring in a top notch centre midfielder so that we had a decent selection, as this season we have been appalling if Lucas hasn't been available, given that Rodgers doesn't understand that Can is a CM

Thanks for your reply Ed002. I am a massive fan of Benzema so would be delighted to see him in the red of Liverpool. Him and Sturridge together with Coutinho, Lallana, Sterling etc. providing the ammo is a mouth watering prospect. Financially we cannot compete with the two clubs you've mentioned so I won't get too excited!

chris_plym_red

{Ed002's Note - The first issue is to sell to raise the money for any such purchases.}

Ed002, does your reply mean there may be a possibility of Benzema in the summer? Obviously we will have to sell to buy, but if we were to move on Balotelli and Borini we could probably afford his right leg at least, right?

chris_plym_red

{Ed002's Note - PSG are looking for a high-profile French signing in the summer - and Benzema is one of the options. There may also be interest from Manchester United and possibly Liverpool.}

If the deep lying playmaker is Allen then we will see another season of disappointment. The holding role is integral to a teams success and he just isn't good enough to take use to the level we desire.

If Kovacic is brought in to play there or Can is given a chance in that role I will be 100000 times more optimistic than seeing JA start there against Stoke.

Our business thus far has been pretty good, but losing Lucas for the sake of Allen would undo all of that good work.

Thanks EMS, appreciate the kind words mate.

I hope Wisdom is given a chance as I think he could be a beast of a central defender!!

If we were to sign Montoya, Kovacic(pretty much done) and Higuain/Aubameyang I will be a lot happier than I was a few weeks ago! I hope we spend all the money from any deal for sterling on a top drawer striker, just not Benteke!!! Signing a direct replacement for RS seems a bit of a waste to me. I would give Ibe/Markovic/Origi/Ojo game time in the wide areas, all of whom could do better than Sterling did in the last few months of the season just gone.

I think I am right in saying a fair few of Borini's goals for Sunderland were penalties. If you look at the goals Ings scored, the majority were poachers goals in and around the 6 yard box showing good movement and sharp reactions. Look at his header at old Trafford as an example, selling the centre half a dummy and giving himself a free header at the back post. I don't see him as he answer by any stretch of the imagination, but I think he will prove to be a good signing!

I am very excited by the prospect of Milner arriving! Versatile, powerful, quick, football intelligence and a never say die attitude! Judging from the tail end of the season, he has exactly what we need in abundance. Not to mention his quality on the ball and at dead ball situations.

Ed001 the names you mention will all get their fair share of game time, I have no doubt about that and I rate all 3! Each game will bring about differing line ups, due to injuries, suspensions, who we are playing etc. We need a good squad and everyone will be needed throughout the 50+ games we could potentially end up playing.

I was just thinking of a formation that could fit a 3 man central midfield and still have Coutinho in his best position. Give the magician the movement of Walcott & Sturridge, for arguments sake, in front of him and he would be on 20+ assists next season. As well as the insurance of 3 very combative CM's behind him.

Milner, Can & Henderson combined would be more than a match for many midfields in the league, and could be crucial to any success next season.
