Snoots, i am a big believer that stats if used correctly and with context can give you a good baseline for your opinion and even back up observations you make through watching the games. But the Doucoure and Sangare comparison cannot be reasonably made with Fbref statistics alone.

So for example I last used Fbref to compare Hendo and Mac Allister who both played in the same league, for teams close in league position, relatively close in style of play, and both played similar positions in their team etc.

The only one of those criteria Doucoure and Sangare meet is similar positions in their team. Sangare plays in a weaker league, for a team that regularly competes for the title, and in a team which dominates possession. So his stats with the ball were bound to look better.

I don't think this is a fair comparison mate. But it's your opinion still so don't let anyone bully you over it. Respect to you for putting yourself out there knowing stats are taboo.

Putting the difference in leagues to one side, Sangare does look to be well rounded and decent on attacking and defensive stats compared to others.
However, the attacking statistics aren't maybe of importance to our need.
Doucoure is pretty much the same sort of percentiles on the defensive stats, lower on aerial but high on interceptions. Doucoure not showing as high on progressive passes/ carries etc.
With that said, Id be happy with someone to come in who can protect back four, win back possession and give it off to Mac, Trent/ Szob to get it moving forward for the pos. Some steel is the main need for us I think. I don't think they need to be able to do everything when we have others who bring the other skills.

Thanks MK, not trying to butt heads with anyone in here just a hearty discussion on our targets, I find the window as I exciting the matches sometimes.
This one has been a hell of a ride so far.

Mk what was the outcome of the Mac and Hendo comparisons.

I think that Doucoure ticks more boxes than Sangare, he knows the Premiership, just seems a better fit than some of the names being looked at .
now that chelsea are sorted with def mid fielder, then we have a better chance of this transfer, Ed has given his approval too .
go get him, sign him up .

JK, it suggested that Mac would be a great acquisition and that Hendo would be better suited to a hotter climate.

Eerie.

To be fair, this site needs a stats guy and snoots, you look perfect for the job.

Example: I really like player X. Provide some expert analysis Yada Yada Yada. And we can finish with "now hit him with the stats snoots"

Then in you come like a shining knight backup cop like pow pow pow. Here are your graphs bitches.

Davey, did you skip the pills this morning, bud? Maybe nip back and take them, eh?

Everton used Maupay charts than we did when they bought that striker from Brighton.

Funny ha ha, Davey. So what's your role, then? Have you decided or do we get to pick that like you picked for Snoots?

Zed, watch your toes amigo. You're rumbling with the "considerable football knowledge" guy. Caution. ⚠️.

Isn't it obvious ArAy. I fought hard to become the site's prophet with an insane prediction that just failed at the final hurdle. I tried to be a good analysis type guy. It's a work in progress. I tried to be the site's funny guy but I seriously lack consistency in that area. I think in the end we all revert to type and I've eventually found my place as the site's weirdo.

It was a tough competition for that spot but I think I won out.

You don't get an outcome from statistical comparisons, JK23. Stats just support opinions rather than frame them. Although they are technically "facts", you can still manipulate stats if you have an agenda so using stats doesn't make a subjective opinion any less subjective. I don't think its as simple as just reeling off stats and then saying 1 player is better than the other though. There is nothing worse than a person who uses stats to dismiss another persons differing opinion either.

I am also wary of a subjective "stat" which are growing in popularity especially because of Sky Sports and their abuse of what they call "stats". Expected goals, expected assists, errors leading to a goal, big chances missed, big chances created etc. The whole purpose of a stat is that it is definitive. If you start adding in 'wooly' stats then that's just nonsense in my opinion. Who decides what is expected? Or what is an error or a big chance?

Then you have stats like assists which are only useful with context. For example, Jones got an assist for that goal where Salah went around half the City team and lashed home from a near impossible angle. Did Jones really create that goal? It's not as bad as a subjective "stat" because Jones factually did play that pass to Salah that resulted in a goal, but it is a stat where you need to take a greater volume of evidence to make it relevant as a small data pool can be too easily skewed with anomalies.

The stats helped support my comparisons between Hendo and Macca but there was no outcome per se, and anybody who uses solely stats to separate players should rethink their analysis process in my opinion. Go and make physical observations then see if the stats support what you saw.

The Sky Sports stats say Martinez is the e best keeper in the league with Ali in second. What actually happens on the pitch is what matters.

One more thing about stats, Westwood666 and where they can be misleading comparing to what actually happens on the pitch. In the Chelsea game, it says we only had one shot on target hence, the goal.

Now when it comes to actually what happened on the pitch, we created a lot more clear cut chances where we definitely should have scored and a goal that was chalked off via a very tight offside. As you say, it is what happens on the pitch that matters.

Mk I’m not sure if my comment came across as me being sarcastic but it was a genuine one.

I was genuinely interested and just after more context that’s all of the opinion and the stats in the comparison as I thought I might have missed a convo on here in the past.
