Spot on Thomas. A failed transfer negotiation is a negative outcome. There is no way to positively spin the failed Caicedo and Lavia efforts. The truth has to be that we did want one or both at the time. We seem to have never had a hope with Caicedo anyway so that made the club look inept in making a bid for a player that then could not be convinced to move. Lavia probably could have been signed if we moved quicker but it was mishandled throughout considering he was a top target and then became it turned to two rejections in quick succession. that's very bad for PR. I think there is no way to deny that the club made mistakes but can't agree they deliberately made them as there is no logical reason to do that.

Unbelievable work rate, always put the team first and had that bit of magic. Was great to watch him when he was at his best. Unfortunately his best probably is behind him but he will probably play some good football for someone. Best of luck to him. Time to move on.

Putting the difference in leagues to one side, Sangare does look to be well rounded and decent on attacking and defensive stats compared to others.
However, the attacking statistics aren't maybe of importance to our need.
Doucoure is pretty much the same sort of percentiles on the defensive stats, lower on aerial but high on interceptions. Doucoure not showing as high on progressive passes/ carries etc.
With that said, Id be happy with someone to come in who can protect back four, win back possession and give it off to Mac, Trent/ Szob to get it moving forward for the pos. Some steel is the main need for us I think. I don't think they need to be able to do everything when we have others who bring the other skills.

I can't see VVD being dropped and sadly I don't think we will do any better without him without also a change of tactics as I think we will have the same problems if this system is deployed with any of our CBs.
I'd love to see something fresh tried at this point as I think it has gotten to the point of a drastic change being required to revitalize the team.
I personally think that Trent can't continue at right back with this current team. I love him when he is on form but its been so rare to see this past 8 or so months.
He either needs to be removed from the firing line or given more protection.
My preference would be to move him as I just love his attacking traits.
I would be interested to see a 4-5-1 with Trent at RM, Gomez at RB. Salah through the middle, Nunez/ Jota left wing with Robertson/ Tsimikas at LB.
I'd give Carvalho / Elliot a try at attacking mid with 2 sitting behind.
Does anyone agree with me or what would you try for this game to get a better performance from the team?

Im a fan of Jota and was delighted when he signed.
He hit the ground running and has unfortunately suffered a number of injuries since then.
He hasn't really got going this season with the latest injuries but he did have a pretty good return last season for goals and assists.
I think he offers unpredictability and could be great option off the bench/ in rotation if he now stays fit, available and motivated.
If he delivers between now and the end of the season I think he deserves another season.
I'd be disappointed to see him go as I don't see any guarantees Diaz comes back at the level he was before he got injured and you never know if Nunez or Gakpo might suffer their own injuries so would hope to keep a proven goal scorer around if at all possible.
I hope Elliot and Carvalho can make big contributions in the future but I personally don't see them as reliable backup for our wide players. I just don't believe they are comparable in skill sets to Diaz, Nunez, Jota, Salah, Gakpo or Mane was. Maybe they have a bit more in common with Firminos skills so could be more suited to backup in that area of the pitch.
Doak might be more suited but I think will need a few seasons yet.
I just can't see any of these chipping in with the amount of goals/ assists that a peak Jota would and I think we are always going to need that sort of input from our wide players if we are hoping to get back to challenging next season.

It was a fantastic pass and great interplay to open up the space for Trent to play the pass, but I actually thought it looked like a bad touch from Darwin and it just happened to bounce back and hit his chest. It didn't look to me like he meant to control it like that. After that I can't argue with the finish though. It was top class.
