Looking at linked midfielders at the moment we have Thuram and Kone - stories have been around for a while - Gravenberch, Veiga and, more recently, Barella and Amrabat.

Assuming we will add 2 to Mac Allister, which 2 would you pick? And if the stories about Thiago going to Saudi are to be believed, we may have a 3rd slot to fill, or even a 4th if Fab goes too (whilst still leave space for Elliot, Jones and Bajcetic), so who would be next on your list?

For me, I like the power of Thuram, so he'd be first.

I would have said Veiga but I think if the stories at to be believed re Gravenberch's price - €25m - then he could be too good a talent to pass up.

If Thiago goes, and we get a good price, Barella would be next for me.

And finally if Fab also goes, I'd get Amrabat.

What about you guys? Who would be your picks?

Thuram and Kone for me. Both look like they would perfectly balance eachother.

Gravenberch is the only one I don't fancy. I always have reservations about players who have looked great in the Bundesliga, it's a poor league any many of those players have failed in the Premier League. (Werner, Sancho, Naby, Havertz etc) . So I have even more reservations about a lad who hasn't even looked good in the Bundesliga. Not for me

Any 2 of the others I'd be delighted with.

Of those names, Kone and Thuram would give us what we are missing.

Tchouameni and Sobozalai would be nice.
Caicedo and Valverde would be nice too.

But we are not allowed nice things.

We need someone like Veiga. People tend to sleep on goalscoring midfielders, but they often become the difference between winning a title and ending up as runners' up. Look at Gundogan. You need that.

Veiga has that instinct and he isn't lightweight either. Kid is 6'1" and willing to run and press. We may regret missing out on him IMO.

Thuram and Veiga all day long! I watched Gravenberch yesterday in U21 playing in a midfield with acres of space and lots of time and honestly his touch and control was awful all game, very rash in tackles and I honestly can’t for the life of me see what he would bring to our squad…add to this the fact that successive managers in Munich have not given him a sniff suggests to me issues behind the scene…hard pass.

We defs need two physical presences with height in the middle of the park. Surprised we didn’t get Thuram wrapped up before the Euros. Tbh would be happy with anyone we have been linked with as all improvements on what we have. I’m just happy we aren’t getting mount.

Either way, Our season will be defined by the Transfer Window again.

I'd pick Barella out of those options. Then probably Amrabat. They're both in their prime and top class players.

I don't think Gravenberch has very good close control. Reminds me of Wilshere; always on the stretch when running with the ball.

I've never seen Kone, Thuram or Veiga play. So as good as they might be, i can't claim they're my preferred picks.

Viega after Thuram, all day long. As We the Reds has stated, this type player gives us goals from MF, and options when bus parkers visit L4.
According to some Viega terms are agreed, and now its about payment structure Vs Chelsea's, although the players favours the reds, in part due to his connection with Baj.

What are people's thoughts on Sandro Tonali as an addition to our midfield? He looks set to move to Newcastle by all accounts (and we don't appear to be interested) but I have always rated the lad and think he could do very well in our midfield.

Get Micky VDV in and we are pimping!

Kone and Thuram.

We need further legs and power in midfield. It's suits klopps style to have these traits in every position really but certainly midfield. Both players have it.

Thuram I would not want to constrict to DM so he would be my box to box.

Kone for DM but he can also play 8 so perfect flexibility with Bajectic.

Everytime I see Amrabat, I'm really impressed. He is more mobile than I originally thought when I was against the transfer. I'm actually more on board with this transfer now if it came off.

Genuinely don't think Barella is the right fit for us. He doesn't add pace or power. He is a talented but we already added Mac Allaister so Barella makes no sense to me.

Veiga does as he has all the pace and power too but I prefer Thuram for the box to box role.

Gravenberch just looks so raw. He could turn out great but he looks the most raw of the bunch and would need time.

So either Thuram and Kone or Thuram and Amrabat for me.

If Veiga ends up in the mix I d be happy out there to be honest.

Thuram and Veiga would give us the height as well as the energy we need.
Gravenberch is an amazing talent, you can see him being an unsung hero in many trophy winning sides - a Gini if you like.
Kone is like a Lallana type but with speed and robustness therefore he would be ideal for Klopp.
Barella is a very good player. A better player than the others mentioned however I think he's one we should have went in for a few years back because I don't think the player he is now is what we need.
Amramabat is overrated for me, if we really want a defensive midfielder then I think we should look for one for the future. Hussein from AIK would be ideal in my eyes with his efficient break up play and eye for a pass forward, if he is willing to take a rotation role at Liverpool for the next 2 years or so.

I would love to read your thoughts other posters.

YNWA.

I described Granvenberch as a midfield Sakho a month or so back, i haven't changed my mind, we need much better than him.

I’m not so sure 2 midfielders will arrive full stop. Ed002 has advised it would be one it the other on Thuram and Kone. Veigl is similar to Macallister so does t make any sense either.

AMA, Thuram and Viega at a total cost of £101m, with combined wages still coming in at less than 1 Jude Bellingham makes more sense by the minute.

If Thiago goes to Saudi, throw in a Kone for 30m, too, and we have a well-stocked, young group of golden boys ready to serve for the next 5/ 6 years or more.

I think Kone and Thuram are the best options out of all the above, they give us some athleticism, power and dynamism that we’ve lacked.

Hard pass on Gravenberch, not impressed by him whenever I’ve seen him and he looked dreadful the other night for Netherland u21.

Amrabat is slower and less mobile than Fabinho. So that’s a hard pass too. Barella would cost too much and be too much of a risk.

Veiga would be ok, but only if we move Thiago on. Personally I think we should look to move Thiago and Fabinho on and get Kone, Thuram and Veiga in. Then we are sorted for the next several seasons. Won’t happen though.

22 Jun 2023 18:32:47
Count me in for Veiga and Thuram.

Veiga looks like a real talent. Thuram is a very powerful play a la Fabinho in his pomp.

Not a fan on Gravenberch - Bambi on ice, couldn’t trap a bag of cement.

Kone is a poor man’s Thuram.

Tchouameni and Veiga will be the two we get.

Thuram and Kone both on display for France under 21 tonight worth a watch to see them and how they perform. In an ideal world it would be Veiga, Thuram and Kone this summer and move out thiago, I’d rather bring in promising youth and have a season of transition but with the promise of development and youthfulness similar to Arsenal than go for the likes of big money moves like Barella…it’s clear we can’t compete with the likes of city, utd or Chelsea in terms of spending so let’s build a team that can develop and compete. It may mean some short term pain but I think we need to choose a direction and move forward and not get drawn into paying rediculous fees for overhyped signings.

I feel a bit embarrassed to admit I’ve only seen Barrella play out of the above list and that was once in the CL final.

But from what posters have been saying on here for a while Barrella and Thuram seem to be the highest thought of.

For me as long as we’re signing the players that Klopp wants and not trying to win the net spend trophy then that’s good enough for me.

26.) 22 Jun 2023

If money was no object I’d like to see Rice, Thuram and Barella. They along with Mac Allister, Trent, Baj, Elliot, Hendo Fabs and Thiago would just about cover all eventualities in all comps and we’d jave more than enough cover when we get a few injuries

In the real world though, it depend on how we are going to play, and what Jürgen wants to do with Trent. If we stick with the inverted full back, . I think we’ll sign two mids with one definitely being stronger on the right side. If Trent is seen as a genuine midfielder I think we’ll probably just see one more midfielder.

Either way I think we need a left sided defender, and the choice seems to be Van de Ven.

Thuram and Kone both had great games tonight with France, Thuram looks a great player, excellent touch, composure on the ball and very strong and technical, dare I say a yaya toure type player.

The idea that we should avoid players from Bundelsiga strikes me as odd. Firmino and Matip have been great for us, and other clubs (ok, City) haven’t done too badly with Kompany, Kevin dB, Gundogan, Haaland etc…it’s about choosing the right players. French and Dutch leagues both awfully weak, but do produce some fine players. More striking is how few players from other UK leagues don’t - more often than not - make it in the Premiership. Is Vardy the only recent example?

29.) 23 Jun 2023
23 Jun 2023 08:08:23
Eh? Loads of ex Championship players have made it at Prem level in the last decade. Schmeichel, Morgan, Albrighton, Vardy, Watkins, Toney, Mee, Tarkowski, Coady, Neves, Jota, Ings, Jensen, Henry, Ream, Mitrovic, Reed, Webster, Burn, Murphy etc.

I could probably list over 100 If i could be bothered.

30.) 23 Jun 2023

I’d argue that Neves and Jota weren’t the normal championship players though.

Thomas194, Im not so sure Gravenberch was even good in the Bundesliga cos he wasn't even playing that much which is why he wants to leave. As per who I would like, I have no idea cos I have never seen these guys play.

Now who I would like and did like was Alex Mach who happily, we actually signed cos I watched him play extensively for Brighton and he was phenomenal. I think he will be very good for us.

Veiga will become the new prospect to not get many minutes, never mind a full game and loaned out a season after. Fabio any1.
