Morning eds1
I’ve read a few rumours about Newcastle wanting jota for 70mill. If we could get 70mill for him would you cash in? He does chip in with the goals every season but very injured prone.

{Ed001's Note - yes, defo.}

I don't think there’s a Liverpool fan that wouldn’t. A useful super sub when pinning the opposition in their box, but next to useless when on the counter or in transition. His pass always looks misplaced or over hit, but often seems to be just right so he’ll be on the end of the next one. Souness said that Salah was the greediest striker he’s ever seen (I know, hyperbolic nonsense), but Jota is much more so. Would be good for Newcastle, not right for our system IMO.

70 feckin million? Take their hands off.

Too bad that figure is probably BS though.

{Ed025's Note - i think they meant £70 SR..

If true which I’m not saying it is, then that would be the majority of the Gvardiol money needed. Probably untrue but yes would take £70 million in a heart beat.

Jota’s played the equivalent of 7 games of football this season and has 7 assists. He must be the luckiest person in the world that all his crap passes seem to find someone who scores.

But for 70 mill I suppose it’s a no brainer. Question then would be who do we replace him with and how much would it cost.

5.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 09:50:13
If it's true then it's a definite yes.

Who do we replace him with? Obviously someone who will cost 40 million, like he did, of course. We've done it before and certainly can do it again. That's how we do business and that's how it should continue. Enough of this letting players go for nothing, because they have reached the end of their conract.

6.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 09:50:19
I would take 70m for VVD, let alone Jota.

7.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 09:57:58
I think the answer is yes.

He's a really unique player in terms of his two-footedness and his timing and instincts in the penalty box. It's good to have him as an option off the bench.

But, (i) we need the money, (ii) we have many alternatives and (iii) his injury record is a long-term concern.

8.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 10:30:08
FPF, the injuries are the main reason to sell. He's missed 50 games in 2 seasons now. Started with that knee injury, then a foot injury, then an ankle injury, then a hamstring injury and lastly a calf injury. He's a hip injury away from shouting BINGO.

9.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 10:41:52
Bingo ??.

10.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 10:43:18
Let him go and re-invest the money elsewhere, we don't necessarily even need to directly replace him. 4 top class forwards is enough if we have good youngsters. We can use that money to make sure we have something similar in midfield and at the back.

11.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 10:48:19
But if FSG are willing to back Klopp with Any transfer as we’re happily told then why sell for 70 and buy someone for 40.

Realistically we should be building the team squad with better players. Not looking to make profit on sales and replace with cheaper.

Kind of contradicts the argument FSG will support Klopp and it’s him not willing to spend.

12.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 10:56:11
Fot that money i'd sell him and try get Mount in, out of contract in 12 months. Top player.

13.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 11:14:32
Sell and replace with Leao.

{Ed002's Note - That is not going to happen.}

14.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 11:20:21
Cheaper doesn't necessarily mean worse, JK. Conversely, expensive doesn't necessarily mean better too.

I think it is safe to say that if Jota were to be sold for 70m, then that amount would be reinvested back into the squad. If Klopp feels that a striker worth 40m is a worthy replacement then he will be supported. The remaining 30m could be reinvested in other areas instead. If Klopp wants to spend the full 70m on a single player, then he will be backed too.

Of course, this is all a very simplistic view of things and I am very sure that things in reality don't work as neatly as this.

09 Mar 2023 11:21:34
Replace him with doak that leaves us with RW Salah doak, LW Diaz carvalho st gakpo Nunez and Elliot and Jones can also cover these positions. Plenty.

16.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 11:29:43
JK - cheaper doesn't always mean a worse player or less of a system fit :)

On a serious note though, if there's going to be no new money available and we're still hell bent on breaking the world record for Jude Bellingham, we're going to have to raise some money for any other business from sales. Fabinho, Gomez, Kelleher, Tsimikas and Jota hold decent value.

09 Mar 2023 11:41:15
Drac get that mate and I agree. Fee doesn’t always guarantee quality but it’s a great indicator to quality but all depending on circumstances.

Jota’s injuries have been extremely frustrating and if he is moved on them for me he will need to be replaced by someone who can offer goals (appreciate he’s not scored this season) and assists.

Those genuinely cost money and there’s not many 40
Mill forwards out there who offer both of those in abundance.

09 Mar 2023 13:05:19
Can’t believe how under appreciated jota is by some fans. Most of them would still have donkey Origi sat on the sidelines when jota has out scored him in his short time with us and spent a lot of that injured.

19.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 13:28:34
I appreciate Jota - when he's fit.

20.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 13:43:58
Im a fan of Jota and was delighted when he signed.
He hit the ground running and has unfortunately suffered a number of injuries since then.
He hasn't really got going this season with the latest injuries but he did have a pretty good return last season for goals and assists.
I think he offers unpredictability and could be great option off the bench/ in rotation if he now stays fit, available and motivated.
If he delivers between now and the end of the season I think he deserves another season.
I'd be disappointed to see him go as I don't see any guarantees Diaz comes back at the level he was before he got injured and you never know if Nunez or Gakpo might suffer their own injuries so would hope to keep a proven goal scorer around if at all possible.
I hope Elliot and Carvalho can make big contributions in the future but I personally don't see them as reliable backup for our wide players. I just don't believe they are comparable in skill sets to Diaz, Nunez, Jota, Salah, Gakpo or Mane was. Maybe they have a bit more in common with Firminos skills so could be more suited to backup in that area of the pitch.
Doak might be more suited but I think will need a few seasons yet.
I just can't see any of these chipping in with the amount of goals/ assists that a peak Jota would and I think we are always going to need that sort of input from our wide players if we are hoping to get back to challenging next season.

09 Mar 2023 13:53:45
Pegleg, I like the guy, but he's not a £70m player. He just isn't, like.

It's academic anyway as I'm having a hard time believing that figure is based on actual reality.

22.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 13:54:40
It's incredible how unappreciated Origi is by some fans. The "donkey" who scored key goals at key moments in key games. And if he sat on the bench, then it's because he was told to do that; not because he had a choice in the matter.

That's right. Strike out at people for having an opinion, and yours will get it too.

23.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 14:00:51
Theoretically £70m would be great business and most fans would accept.

However realistically I don’t think any of us can see a bid coming in for him in that region.

And I personally wouldn’t sell him for much less.

21 goals and 8 assists last season. Those are exceptional numbers for a player playing in the Premier League. Not many players got close to that for g/ a contributions.

We are already looking to make significant changes to the team in midfield and hopefully centre back. On that basis I would avoid making too many other changes in the squad this summer.

{Ed002's Note - With Diaz and Gakpo it was always going to be difficult to see where he fits and I understand he will be available. As I explained I am not aware of any approach from Newcastle and £70M seems way too much to get interest from another side.}

24.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 14:16:17
According to transfermarkt, JK23, its 6 assists so far this season and 3 were against rangers after we’d already scored 4 so it just goes to show that stats mean very little. There is a reason why when everyone’s fit that he doesn’t often start. He plays best when we’re camped in the opposition half. Just watch his build up play on the break and see how many times he plays the right pass, or at the right time.

That said, I like him as a super sub. He’s a very useful player in the right situation, but for 70 million we could reinvest that in much more important areas. IF someone were willing to pay of course.

25.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 14:19:43
Something red, if an offer of £70m came in I’d personally take it and invest in the team. Just can’t believe how many fans write him off as a flop.

You’re entitled to your opinion Aray but he was a poor signing and correct me if I’m wrong but he hasn’t really done anything since his move?

26.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 14:50:20
I was one of the few people on here making a case to sign Jota before it was even known we had actual interest, Pegleg. So believe me when i say i really rate the guy.

But his injuries are just ridiculous. They're not even impact injuries. He just seems to do muscle or ligament damage by turning or stretching. If he could stay fit we wouldn't have needed Gakpo in the first place. Just so happens that Gakpo has come in and looks like the perfect heir to the Firmino role.

I think any bid £45m or upwards for Jota should be accepted. Get our money back, thank him for the memories, and move on.

27.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 14:51:40
Forget £70 million for Jota. I would snap their hands off at even £50 million. Jota had one good season but is so injury prone it’s not funny and cannot play out left or out right due to not be particularly good at linking play, alongside lacking any blistering pace. He is a poacher and would do a good job at Newcastle if he is going to be played regularly and importantly through the middle as he is not starting ahead of Gakpo or Nunez in that position.

28.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 15:25:46
I watched him against arsenal I think he’s a tricky little cooker. Changed my view of him that game. We’ve got him he’s here and settled cost us Anthony Gordon money I’d like him to stay but if klopp decides otherwise I trust him.

29.) 09 Mar 2023
09 Mar 2023 15:45:38
Quo I’m not sure where I got 7 assists from then mate but he’s got 6 in roughly 7 games worth of minutes.

Bobby has 8 goals and 4 assists this season but 2 goals and 3 assists came in the 9-0 win against Bournemouth. They all still count mate.

As Iv said many time. I like Jota think he’s underrated and would prefer him to stay. Got to be honest though there are not many players in the squad I wouldn’t sell for £70m though.
