Ed001, a quick question regarding Robertson if you've got the time.

I've noticed previously, mainly from when he was with Hull and playing with Scotland, that Robbo's crosses are SO much better and accurate when he can curl a ball in from deeper. I noticed it again last night with a peach of a ball for the final goal.

Do you feel that part of his problem with the erratic/ dross crossing is that he struggles to get a decent ball in on the move, and at a straighter angle? Would he, and in turn the team, benefit from him dropping off slightly during attacks and delivering from a deeper position?

It just seems to me that he has far more control when he can take a second to say "thats where i want it to go, if I whip in a curler i can avoid x and y defenders".

This is almost certainly true of all crossers of the ball, but I wondered if it could be more utilised since there's such a drop-off in quality of his crossing on the run/ straight into the box?

Thanks, 10 more wins to go!

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, exactly. He needs to concentrate on his control rather than just whipping it in. A lot of full backs are the same, rushing forward too early and missing the chance to just be in position to play a proper cross.}

Bang on the money this. He also his a ball better when its comign to him, which can be the harder technique but executes it better than a standign ball.

He should look before he puts the cross in. Most of the time he wips in a powerfull fast ball across the face of the goal without putting his head up and checking where the attackers are.

Am I the only one who thinks he is a very limited average full back! Aimless running with no end product. I like full backs taking on their man and cutting it back.
Just my opinion.

Yes, JAN. You are prolly the only one as there is nothing average nor limited about Robbo's game. Can he improve and are there flaws to his game? Of course BUT that's about where it ends. He is a very good young FB like TAA on the other side. With time, they will improve. Average or limited? That would be reserved for poor footballers like Walker and Mendy. Both great athletes BUT poor footballers who lack a footballing brain. Just my opinion.

"Am I the only one who thinks he is a very limited average full back"
==============
If he is limited average then wonder what he can do if he was above average. He has the most assists for any full back in the premier league, so these aimless crosses or whatever you lot are calling it are serving a very good purpose .

Who is better in the PL?

I read he has 8 assists more than any of our other players. Not sure if true but maybe proves he is doing ok going forward. We have our best ever premier league defence and I wouldn't swoop Robbo for any of our other PL left backs. It is the hardest position to play, you have to be 2 players in one.

AVERAGE! I’ve heard it all now. A few below at games and suddenly your average! 😂.

Alba and Marcelo are certainly prettier with their technical ability. But robbos output ever sonce the Man City game 4-3 last season has been second to none in the world.

JAN, “Aimless running with no end product”? Robbo has an impressive number of assists this season, of course (8 so far, only 2 behind the leading player Hazard and 1 behind Eriksen, Sané, Sterling, Pogba and Fraser) but why let the facts get in the way of your prejudices and negativity? If you had watched just our last 2 PL home games you would have seen an excellent through ball for Wijnaldum to score against Bournemouth and an excellent cross for Van Dijk to score against Watford. Or don’t they count as ‘end product’ in your version of the game?

And a Reckless Tackle right on the stroke of Half Time against Leicester resulting in a free kick from which Maguire scored, which cost us 2 points. We would now have a 3 point lead instead of one, how much it will cost us ultimately, will only be determined at the end of the season, if we come short by one point Fans will remember his one "assist" for city rather than the impressive assists for LFC, and hopefully more assists to come this season.

007,
Yes he can be a bit reckless at times BUT a lot happened between the kick being taken and the goal being scored. Robbo wasn't in the defensive line on his own.

007, if you want to concentrate on Robbo’s occasional mistakes (and name me one player who has never made a mistake) rather than all the good things he contributes to the team, then go ahead but I am pretty sure that you will be in a minority amongst Liverpool supporters. It is quite frankly laughable that real Liverpool supporters (rather than the fair weather hangers-on) would hold Robbo responsible if we do come up short which, by the way, I don’t think will be the case.

I think he has struggled because I put him in my fantasy football team at xmas. I took mane out and put Salah in, guess what Salahs scoring has slowed and mane can't stop scoring. So basically it is my fault. I took aubameyang out last week.

Give your head a wobble harry, his work rate alone is world class, you must have missed the delivery for virgils second? Oh and he's still young and developing.

Well said WW.

Can I just point out as well, when the choice was Ben Mendy or Andy Robbo I wonder how many fans would have chosen Robbo. Less than 1%? This is why football is brilliant. In Klopp we trust.

Ask the fans at Anfield, always always gets a rousing reception. He’s a 100%er. Never gives less than 100% effort and commitment 👍.

Every player makes mistakes, forwards miss chances, midfielders give the ball away, defenders concede free kicks.
To blame Robertson for us dropping 2 points at home to Leicester is just ridiculous. The foul was conceded almost on the touchline, there were multiple chances for us to clear the ball, no one was picking up Maguire and there was still the whole of the second half to play.
This sort of uneducated blaming of a player for a defeat when they make one mistake during the course of a 90 minute match really is laughable.

Spot on, SmegHead and WW. They do the same thing with Lovren, Hendo and who ever they don't like. They pick the one game or few games a mistake was made while conveniently forgetting the great things they have done in many other games and use it to put them down. It smacks of intellectual dishonesty pathetic scapegoating.

If you want to judge a player, judge them on their body of work over a long period of time. Failure to do that means you have no real argument to make about your judgement of the play so you resort to nitpicking which everyone knows, does not prove a damn thing.

I really do not know what level of cloud cuckoo land some people live in. Even at the beginning of this season I was still a little unsure of Robbo's poential, but the lad just keeps getting better and better. He may have had a few slightly off matches, but if there is a more improved player in the league over the last year I can not think of them.

Robertson would not look out of place in any team in world football right now. That is not something I thought I'd say this time last year. So, when people expect so much more of him, I do not know who they are comparing him to because very few players, if any, would be doing a better job overall than he is.

007, in these days of tricky gender politics, feel free to address me as either Wirral Wonder Boy or Wirral Wonder Girl and I will do my best to be gender fluid. But to be honest Wirral Wonder Arl Fella is nearer the mark.

Every single goal we have conceded this season has been from a mistake then . Someone would have had to have conceded possession for the opposition to get the ball so let’s not start blaming Robbo if we don’t win the league. We win as a team and we lose as a team.

unless a player's skill and execution is so terribly bad, as long as they are a 100%er then I'm ok with them. that's what has made me turn on sturridge for the worst and has led to have soft spots for the unheralded guys like Lucas and Moreno. Robbo fits this for me too.
