Its funny , last year when Alonso went to Bayern I saw endless posts saying "why haven't we tried to sign him" at the age of 32. We sign a player of the same standard 2 years younger and he's "finished". Bar a just paid £30m for a 29 year old Turan. No one bats an eyelid. Sour grapes. Deep down not one of you would rather have Milner than Schweinsteiger.

I don't think many of you are really happy with your transfers deep down, so kidding yourself over our makes you feel better. Quite amusing

Bayern aren't stupid . They know he's done . He's good for the odd game . He made how many starts for them last yr . No doubt he was a top top player . But your deluded if you think you are getting a peak player . Good signing . Image etc . But he's best yrs are behind him . I've no envy at all on this and that's been honest . Schneiderlin is a better get imo.

I wouldn't have neither. One is like alike to Henderson and the other is slow and old.
UTD ll regret if they fail to bring Morgan Schniderline.

I would prefer Milner! Joe Alan had better stats last season

Different type of players. BS is (or was in his prime) a box to box midfielder. Could be a good buy for Utd, but very injury prone too. Although I really don't care who you buy tbh. I only concentrate on Liverpools players.

Nonesense, Stand! Age is not the issue. Schweini has lost two steps and if Alonso who is older can keep him out of the team then that tells you what you need to know. Dragging other players into this is a weak attempt at deflection. I'm not talking about Turan, Milner or whoever else. I'm talking about Schweini, a great player who I have watched and loved since his debut in 2002 but who is no longer the player he used to be and until proven otherwise, looks like a weird signing. Try to stay on topic next time you post.

Alonso has never relied on pace and physicality as much as the swine who is a tough box to box player. Alonso's biggest strength is his passing range which survives age a lot better.

Why are United, a team with untold riches buying a player who is in the twilight of his career? Why are Munich letting him go if he is still that good? Why has his impact over the past few seasons dwindled, kept out of the team by an older Alonso? These are the questions you should be asking.

The fact he only started 20 odd games last season is largely down to injury. Just last year he was the best player in the World Cup final by a country mile. Nobody said were getting him at his peak, so that's irrelevant. But your foolish if you don't think he will improve our side for 3 years or so! Why didn't Milner start for city, or for England?? Why aren't you asking yourself that?

As for stats , we could be here all day regarding stats. Floored way of comparing, stats can make anyone look good! Example with Allen. He probably made twice the tackles schweiny did last season. But the reason for that is bayern have the ball for 70 mins per game! Therefore less tackles to make.

Hopefully Schneiderlin follows now. If he does I think we'll challenge for the title

BS still has a lot left. I think BM are just clearing house of the older players to bring some of the new faces through. They have to start building for the future and BS will be looking for an extensive contract at 30 which they may not be willing to offer if in 2 years he's playing less.It seems to make sense to move him on now you have alonso there with another year left to help integrate new player and youth.
I think Bayern expect a lot from Scholl and Kurt ,though they are still young. They also have Douglas Costa returning and purchased Kimmich. I don't know if they are linked with any one,but there midfield seems to be in abundance add to that reported disheartening of goetze at lack of game time.

All just opinion though

Without doubt an excellent player but never played in a different league and seeing less game time in a league with only 34 league games.

Every transfer is a risk - but I'd prefer Milner; unless Alonso is available again!

It's a really stupid move from Schweinsteiger's perspective. Adapting to a new league, new country. At his age. I love the guy as a player, but I agree with the majority of posters here. As for Alonso, he's on a different planet and severely underrated by a lot of people. I haven't seen a more accomplished CM and I've spent my whole life watching Steven Gerrard.

He started how many ?? 20 appearances . Carrick had more minutes . Milner started about 30 games . The German will sit deep at Utd . He's legs are done for b2b . Remember he's legs are gone! And he gets away with it at Bayern and Germany . As the unit looks great . Even boateng looked great . He will have some good games no doubt but Bayern are letting him go ! Because they can't guarantee him a game as he doesn't fit their pressing game as we all saw last season

BS can be a good fit as Deep Lying Playmaker,Its good move if he is played along with a defensive midfielder who breaks up the play. Also he will provide required experience for the team in champions league. At the same time Milner will be as good as he was for Aston Villa when played centrally. So both are decent signings from the clubs.

Stand-united

You're rite you can't really look at stats but the injuries he's had and the less game time he gets does make you wonder.

I think most people wanted Alonso back for sentimental reasons had he never played for us before then you may not see his name mentioned so much on these pages.

The schweinsteiger v Milner though is a tough one. Milner was free and stays pretty much injury free.

Bastian a couple of years ago no doubt pisses all over Milner but going off last year there's a lot of question marks over him.

Without being biased I would stick with Ed01, Milner was certainly not needed and it's a joke to offer him 150k.
I would have thrown that wage to Lacazzate who would win us the league. With Milner coming in Can will either get rotten on the bench or at the back.

And what's this he snubbed 165k at city? Seriously? Y did he not join Arsenal then? No one apart from Liverpool would offer him150k at 30 years old.

Picking up lots of injuries
Coming to the end of your career.
What's the answer?

I know, move to a faster more physical league.
