Long set to snub Liverpool to protect his euro 2016 place. sitting on the bench at Liverpool he feels will damage hopes of leading ireland in France this summer. not sure how true but it did come from an Irishman!

thescout

1.) 20 Jan 2016 15:28:49
Rubbish as he's already struggling to get a start with the national team anyway, makes no sense at all because the Irish has a very limited squad to select from and he is already ( unofficially) on the final squad sheet because there would be uproar if he was fit and not selected for the Euros given he was the one that scored the winner at the Aviva against Germany which made him an instant national treasure

So saying it could damage his hopes of going to France is just ludicrous.

2.) 20 Jan 2016 15:45:37
Please let this be true ;-)

3.) 20 Jan 2016 15:56:03
They pick Darryl Murphy over him for some reason, who just stands around doing nothing.

4.) 20 Jan 2016 17:59:57
Think a lot of folks on here are delusional at best. have a look at longs goal scoring record is quite good. work rate to is second to none . yes he is in and out of the Southampton starting line up, when he plays he scores beside I don't think there are many fans here that would turn down pelle or mani playing with us, I'd imagine if he would change his name to longhino it might make thing more palitable for some experts here ;-) . not saying I think it would be a good move for Kloop to bag him. people on here seem to think Sturridge is world class I'm not to certain myself. Suarez as would make most premier league strikers look better than they are fact! Hope the west ham rumours are thru, I'd drive Sturridge to uptown park in an ambulance myself if they were prepared to pay 18mil for him. it's quite worrying when reports out of the management team suggest his recent injuries are psychological rather that physical. do we need a player that is not willing to play thru the pain barrier?

5.) 20 Jan 2016 18:43:21
Although I hate to say it I tend to agree. Why on earth do we want a player who is not going to play halfthe season an is on massive wages.
I think studge is a great player when he's fit! but we can't afford to carry lightweights .

6.) 20 Jan 2016 20:41:36
Dude, his goal scoring record is not "quite good" it's garbage unless you count 18 goals in the championship.

We do not need any more hard working technically inept players.

7.) 20 Jan 2016 19:51:06
Shane Long is barely one in four in terms of goals, Sturridge is one every one and a half games. Sturridge is a rare breed and if it is psychological, which it seems it is, that won't go away quickly. He's worth the slowly, slowly approach - 100% better in our squad than going somewhere else. Forget this year, anything is a bonus, then a full pre season under Klopp and judge it in a year. As for the wasted wages? Modern day football is rife with it at every club - if he gets fit and his goals get us back in Champs League season after next. job done. Just an alternate view.

8.) 20 Jan 2016 21:24:44
I definitely think he is underrated. he has good technic in my opinion good not brilliant. besides as I said I not saying buy him I think there are a lot better options! plus origi back soon and Ings next season so in two weeks or so we have plenty of options up front. I don't think they will be in the market for a forward until summer., but this talk of long being 10% of what sturrigde is silly. Southampton have a very good scouting system I think if we picked up the three players they bought of Celtic our team would be in a better position. really rate Wanyma, Fraser foster, and van dyke. The later would most definitely have a positive impact on our dire defending on corners, and probably get a few up the other end, can anybody on this page tell me the last time we scored from a corner,

9.) 20 Jan 2016 21:30:27
Times up for Sturridge and he knows it, do you think management would say what they have said publicly if they think he has a future at the club. I think he is in the shop window already. he had a great season when Luis was ripping in up. he looked very average last season I imo especially when he played up front on his own went missing in far to many games!

10.) 20 Jan 2016 21:50:55
Got to go with the others, Long is not a player to sign if you have ambitions of being one of the top 4 sides. He's a nuts and bolts bottom half of the table at best player.

11.) 21 Jan 2016 00:26:08
It's funny to see "The dude" claiming others are "delusional" while, with a straight face, claiming Shane Long's scoring record is "quite good".

In SIX EPL seasons-- with Reading, WB, Hull, SH-- Long has never scored more than 8 goals in the EPL. And what is more, the last time he did that was several years ago with West Brom in 2012/ 13.

Last year, he scored 5 goals. FIVE GOALS in 32 games for Hull.

Hell, Joe Pirlo Allen has almost halved Long's entire 14/ 15 season goal total in 2 games, scoring 2 in 2.

JOE ALLEN.

"quite good" scoring record. SMH.

12.) 21 Jan 2016 02:16:41
Lordirish, exactly. we need bolt and nut now! as we do not have sny strikers ( not counting benteke)

13.) 21 Jan 2016 02:40:17
Need to take a closer look at Long's record in the Championship as that is representative of how he plays on a team that is generally more dominant than others in the same division. The service he'd receive at Liverpool is far superior to that he has received at his previous clubs (barring when he played in the Championship for a top club) . He's a decent finisher who always seems to have his feet in the right place when the ball comes into him but he doesn't get the same space, quantity or quality of chances that Sturrige got when playing alongside Suarez. Bottom line now is that we need goals. He's got a nice touch and would fit right in with Coutinho, Firminho, Ibe etc playing quick one-2s in congested areas which is exactly what teams make us do.
He scored a lot of goals in the Championship because of the ample service. not because he was picking the ball up at his own 18 yard box and dribbling through the opposition's entire squad. I say pick him up, if we want to sell him in the summer then at least we won't lose a ton of money on him. unlike some Liverpool Lottery Winners. If he helps us get into Europe, then we can start inquiring about strikers who's names end with vowels. until then, we will continue to lose those prospects to City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern, Real, Barca.

14.) 21 Jan 2016 08:28:39
The dude: last time we scored from a corner that I can remember was against Ings's goal against Everton when Brendan was still in charge. Seems like an eternity ago now.

15.) 21 Jan 2016 09:25:47
Rory did skittles not score against man city from a corner?

Cant believe I haven't seen a single post all day that hasn't involved john Lennon airport. deadline day is not the same without someone spotting a superstar hiding under a coat getting man-handled into the back of your best mates cousins taxi. someone must have a john Lennon airport rumour up their sleeve today 😊.

thescout

1.) 01 Feb 2016 18:34:22
Barca need to raise money due to clauses in Messi and Neymar's contracts granting them massive wage increases from next season.

So my best mate's uncle's cat is certain that Suarez is due to arrive at John Lennon Airport via Babelcopter.

See caulker is getting bashed before even pulling on a shirt. never met a bunch of "fans" like it. embarrassing, give the lad a chance!

thescout

{Ed023's Note - I agree}

1.) 12 Jan 2016 15:46:32
It makes me feel ashamed to be associated with the club to be honest. Everyone deserves a chance. If after a couple of games it doesn't look great, fine chip in constructively but this 'the clubs transfer policy is embarrassing' talk. Maybe the embarrassment is closer to home. Fans have pushed and pushed and pushed for transfers, big name signings, contracts executed to the point where the club is in a difficult situation financially. I'm not saying that's the fans fault fully but the added pressure has definitely not helped.

Big changes will happen in the summer CLEARLY. A time when prices aren't hugely inflated and the impulsive nature of business is more relaxed. We have a top top manager with bags of drawing power for potential signings, bright looking youth, a great revenue enhancement with the stadium and naming rights. For God sake give the manager time to sort out the shocking mess Rodgers left us in.

2.) 12 Jan 2016 16:14:01
At least we all know nothing's changed lol.

3.) 12 Jan 2016 16:25:48
Remember how bad Caulker was for Saints against Liverpool in the cup. if Ed Milliband had his picture taken in a Saints shirt I'm sure you'd try to buy him as well!
The transformation into Liverhampton is still ongoing.

4.) 12 Jan 2016 16:27:52
Wheras I don't think it's fair to write him off without playing a game, I do have nightmares of his performance against us in the capital one cup.

5.) 12 Jan 2016 16:36:32
Ai we've pushed and pushed for big transfers smallsy, i'm sure we all pushed for half the squad that clown has left us with,
If any of us were pushing for big name signings then I can guarantee that these were not them, To think we used to moan about the likes of Riise and Baros, i'd take them right now,
I hope your right and he does get to sort this mess out, it needs it.

6.) 12 Jan 2016 17:13:49
Dam right boys give the lad a chance with a quality coach and you never know. Sick to death of all these whinging posts. Ruining this site and embarrassing to be associated with these people. If I was the ed I'd just ban them and get back to what this was when he started out.

This manager has my total support and it don't take a rocket scientist to work out we need cover in the defence. So good work.

7.) 12 Jan 2016 17:41:44
Well said Smallsie and Alfie. It's a wonder anyone signs for us nowadays.

I was always taught to watch the takers standing foot just before he shoots. the way the foot I facing is the way he shoots in theory! again its split second decision making though.
