When you consider how we've had players out/ injured the past month or so, I think we've done very well in this period. This is only our second loss of the season, that's pretty good going.

We didn't do well today but it's just one of them, it's still ours for the taking. We need to look at the bigger picture. A result none of us wanted but we're still doing incredibly well, it's a one off result, bring on Burnley.

It’s technically Man City’s for the taking… points wise.

{Ed001's Note - no, because they still have to play us, so it is still technically in our own hands, as it is in theirs.}

Ed, bad day in the office you reckon for today? Most players were really bad today.

{Ed001's Note - yes, poor team selection to players not turning up, it was a bad day at the office for everyone.}

Bad day but these players deserve the benefit of the doubt, we would have taken this point haul before endo nd mo went off for their countries. Touchwood were near full strengtb now with everyone back, we go again.

A win and a loss against Chelsea and Arsenal is still better than 2 draws! As bad as we were in the first half, they didn't have as many clear cut chances as they had in the FA cup game. Also, we started the second half much better, the mistake for the goal killed it. A draw wouldn't have been too bad a result.

Grav didn't press, but Trent and VVD were both poor.

Would you put Robertson in and move Trent to midfield in place of Gravenberch for yesterday Ed? Or maybe Harvey instead of Gravenberch. Nunez seems to be having a knock days before, otherwise him for Gakpo I guess. Our attack seems to be so poor without him.

{Ed001's Note - I would have said Elliott in midfield, but I would have put Robbo in rather than Trent, who was clearly not fully fit. Gravenberch just is not getting it at all. He doesn't have the intelligence to understand the press - at one point in the second half he closed down when we were deep in our own half. When the ball was passed away from him, instead of dropping back in (which would have been the correct thing to do as there was no press on) he starts trying to wave everyone else on to press. Then when it created confusion with the others unsure whether to press or not, he just threw a strop rather than getting on with getting back into position. It was like playing with ten men for most of the time he was on the pitch. He should not start against anyone strong. He really needs remedial work on his understanding of the game and particularly the press.}

It was still 1-1 when the subs came on. Normally after we have played poorly this season the subs have made the difference. In this game the subs were just as bad as the players going off. Just a very very bad day at the office.
The games are now well spaced out for a while and Burnley is the perfect game next up.

Yeah Gravenberch was the main offender for me. I can see why he couldn’t buy a game at Bayern now. For all his talents, intelligence and effort don’t seem to be part of them.
You can forgive Trent for not being fit, you can forgive Alisson for a rare error, but Grav only has himself to blame for not knowing how to play our system by now.
I hope he turns it around but I can’t help but feel he was a dud purchase, and to think, he’s not learned how to play a system in 6 months, and he’s got to learn another when Klopp leaves.
If Thiagos fit then he gets his space until the summer for me.

Totally agree with team selection yesterday it was like playing with ten men from the off I really don’t see what Gravenberch brings to the team completely AWOL. Arsenal credit though although they didn’t play great they worked dam hard to stop us. Onwards and upwards.

With Gravenberch, we have to consider he is only 21 still but I just don't see him improving at all. Fingers crossed we're all wrong about him and he'll crack on but I do have my doubts. If he continues like this he should be loaned to a newly promoted club next season.

I think Grav will become a decent squad player but he is just not ready yet unfortunately. Elliot should have played but I doubt it would have made much difference. Everything just went wrong and we really missed energy all over the pitch.

Gravenberch was an unnecessary buy and waste of money. Should have kept carvalho as an option and tried trent in midfield to see if he can play in it or not.

You don't start Gravenberch at the Emirates with Elliott available. You just can't esp. with the type of intensity Arsenal would come with. That's on Klopp. We started slow again for the upteenth time at the Emirates. That's on Klopp. We gave the game away twice and you can't do that in such a high profile game. Bad day at the office, really.

Coulred, they outworked us. That's it and sometimes esp. if the oppo. isn't doing much, that's all you need at times.

Agree Oli which is why I give them some credit cause not many teams out work us

Ed1. True. But now if we both win our games until the City match on the 9th of March. City can afford to draw that match as opposed to the other way round. So advantage is with them in that regards. We would have to beat them, which we can of course. It’s just I would have preferred for once not not give them any advantage and keep that two point buffer, but it is what it is. Like I have said and maintained, it was a horrible day all from manager through to the players. All that’s left is to forget today, pick ourselves up and go again.

On a quick side note. I have been saying wrong team selections and players playing badly was what contributed to todays result (banter and match page) . A lot didn’t want to hear about the team selection being wrong. But I’m sure as you have now said it a lot of those that were arguing will now say the team selection was wrong….

The team selection was appalling yesterday, but it annoys me even more how we seem to always have absences for critical games/ periods of the season. Why were Szoboszlai and Nunez not available yesterday?

Secondly, why did we start poorly at The Emirates yet again? We know Arsenal are fast starters but they remain vulnerable against teams that match their intensity. Once again, we conceded a hatful of chances within the first ten minutes because too many players weren’t switched on. Match them for 20 minutes, don’t concede, and then let our extra quality show.

As for Gravenberch, he was just a terrible signing by a club running out of ideas by the end of the window after missing out on the main target again. He won’t be sold this summer because our club doesn’t really do that, but he definitely should be.

Moving forward, Trent needs to move to midfield permanently now. Bradley has shown more defensive ability in his first few games for the club than Trent has shown in years. Trent has world class quality but he has no interest in defending anymore.

Arsenal were fired up from the start and we weren’t fired up until the 2nd half. That’s just not right in a game of that magnitude.

Van Dijk as captain has to be doing more to address that once the game kicks off.

Gravenberch is the easy scape goat but for me MacAllister was the only one trying yesterday but he was just outnumbered.

The rest were really really poor. Diaz tried but didn’t beat White once. And Salah usually gives Zinchenko a torrid time but he got a pass yesterday.

Martinelli has Trent’s number every time we play them and Klopp should never allow that to happen again until Trent improves defensively. Sadly, that is the last time Klopp will play Arsenal as our manager and he didn’t learn from previous mistakes.

LoweLFC, you want to know something crazy? I saw a stat where it says that in the last 4 games we have played vs Arsenal in the PL, we concede to them in the fist 15 mins in each of those games. Now w that should tell you that there is something deeper going on with playing Arsenal recently. And based on this season, it has been a trend that we are finally getting rid of of late with teams we have played. Sadly, it rared its ugly head last night.

Earlier in the season, we were doing this BUT we would make changes, step it up in the second half or final 20 mins and boom, we win. At some point we were going to come unstuck and well, the Arsenal game was that game, IMO. We got to approach games better and faste and play and coach better, IMO. better overall.
