Lavia at £48m or £50m is a poor deal to me, lacks experience, just a kid who could turn out to be anything but a risk all the same.
We should move on to other targets!

I’ve not seen Lavia play apart from the last game of the season but he appears to be Klopps no 1 midfield target so that’s good enough for me if we do get him and if we do move on to another target then I won't lose any sleep over it.

Just out of interest if a club came in for Baj now and at 19 and with minimal premier league experience if the club agreed to sell him, as fans what would we expect or want to get for him value wise.

The problem is we badly need a physical defensive minded player in midfield and have done for 2 years and we still haven't got 1. I'd prefer a more experienced dm than lavia anyway but at this stage if we walk away from lavia where do we go? should've spent what was needed on rice or caicedo long ago.

100 million.

Other targets may equally be a risk, don’t you think? I mean no footballer comes with 100% guaranteed.

Agree with Albedred, £100 million and no lowballing offers. After all he’s played about 13 games (2 as DM) ?.

He looked really good the few times I saw him but that was probably just three matches.

Rice was 50% overpriced, if we spent £105M on him we would have a very good player but we wouldn't be able to afford anyone else then.

Caicedo is highly impressive but again 50% overpriced at £100M imo.

Sean. I can't say your wrong as regards rice+ caocedo being overpriced but they exactly what we need if we have ambitions of winning a league title. As well as that there ain't all that many of them type of players about as we are finding out, list that we have read on here of who we interested in is limited enough tbh.

@Digger, I much prefer us focusing on signing quality rather than just padding the squad with a lot of signings so I think we can both agree on that. Lavia looks to have the potential to be the next Caicedo so if we do sign him then I'll be happy with him for DM.

If we spent around £100M on DM now though we wouldn't be able to add another defender as well. If Thiago moves on then someone like Llorente would be great - Lavia at a little under £50M keeps the other potential signings a possibility financially imo.

It’s probably fair really. Look at how much Caicedo is being valued at Enzo Fernandez and Rice went for over 100m each. If we see him as being good enough to be our DM for the next 10 years or so then we’d have to value him highly.

The transfer market has gone crazy in fairness (and we’ve played a part) and Saudi are driving the market even further up.

We realistically only have 2 options. We can either try and stick with the other top teams who dine at the top table in Europe or not and possibly suffer the consequences on the pitch.

Think about it. When was the last time we “bid” for a player and it got rejected. Then we “bid” again and it got rejected.
Lately we just want a player and before you know it, he’s here.

It doesn’t seem like we fully want this kid, in which case I’d stay well away and get someone in we actually want.

Liverpoolfc8 I kind of agree but then that’s even more stupid than the lowball offers if we really want him. What a waste of time.

02 Aug 2023 07:12:01
how can we say he is not worth £50m because he is only 19 with not much experience. we have just got £40m for a 29 year old with his legs going. we have shaved nearly £1m per week of are wage bill the club needs to stop missing around we know what the price let's get around there and get a move on we start soon and who ever we get needs time to see how we play.

Not sure if true, just a rumour :D, but apparently due to the amount of interest and the prices of Rice, Caceido etc. Southampton have increased their valuation of Lavia to in excess of £60m.

Honestly I don't reckon we fancy any of the holding mids about.

Hence low balling and not pushing very hard at the moment.

With all the usual caveats around YouTube Clips. (I don't watch many at all) . This lad looks special. His football brain is 5 yards ahead of his competition. The lads got it - and I'd pay £50m straight off - he's going to be a top player. Let him gain his experience with us - lifting trophies.

Ive seen Lavia play twice vs Chelsea and away at Arsenal and he was outstanding in both games when it really mattered. The kid has got talent, no doubt but then, I’m not the one who has scouted and watched him way more than I have.

That being said, the club do not think he is worth 50m no. 1 target, notwithstanding. That is just a plain fact based on their actions right now and tons of fans including on this thread, think the exact same thing that opinion should not be dismissed cos others disagree. If it wasn’t for the City buyback clause, there is no way in heck we even look his way at 50m, imo. None.

People say we are lowballing. Others say we are negotiating to drive the price down if possible. Both are valid points. Some say we’re wasting time cos the season is about to begin. Clearly the club doesn’t think so cos they may think they have the whole window left to do business and Klopp is fine with that for now. Who knows? We could still sign Lavia at 50. We could not and sign someone else. Wait and see.

Has Arthur moved from Juve?

Because worst case we can spend another 9 mill on him to play 12 mins next season over negotiating over 8 mill for a player that could be at the heart of our midfield for the next 10 years.

{Ed002's Note - He is going on loan to replace Amrabat.}

Did Amrabat spend much time on the bench ?.

Every deal is a risk. No point in moaning, we'll get who we get.

@Shughes, £50m over a five year contract, say - which makes him 24 and approaching his prime, potentially saves us having to buy some 19 year old Jude clone for £100+ m (probably £150m in 5 years time) or we arrange a bidding war between Saudi FC / Qatar FC and the Spanish Government front office (RealmMadrid) .

22.) 02 Aug 2023
02 Aug 2023 10:28:17
The biggest poor deal is the fact the season starts in just over a week and we don't have a defensive midfielder at the club.

23.) 02 Aug 2023
02 Aug 2023 11:17:07
If I’m paying £40-50 million for a DM and I’m not from Saudi Arabia then I want a player with experience and a consistent performer.

I don’t see that with Lavia. He is talented, sure, but talent means jack-all unless you can perform consistently and from the bits I saw of Southampton - he was prone to a lot of ricks.

Andre has over 100 first team games and some international experience with Brazil. I’d pick him over Lavia all things being equal.

If we aren't fully keen on any DM's around at the moment, that's ok but, we shouldn't have sold fabs if that's the case. I get why we were happy to sell fabs but our midfield at present is 2 injuries away from another crisis imo. Trent in midfield, I like that idea. But then i feel we are short of strength at RB with gomes and the young lad, who to be fair i haven't seen play. I guess we just have to trust the people at the club who see things we can only speculate on, who are on the big bucks to make these decisions. Anyway im excited for the new season, that 1st YNWA at anfield, let's all hope for minimal injuries, the new boys to hit the ground running and for the intensity and pressing to return.

Aussie, Fan wanted to go and do did Hendo and we all know Klopp does not keep players who have made it known that they want to go. If your capt and your top veteran wants to go then, let them go and get the best deal you cancer which is what we did. It is what it is.

What we have to do now is go out and get the players we need which can be tough at times but the window still has a full month to run so let’s see what happens. We got to stay patient here, imo.
