So for seasons Trent has been one of the top right backs around, with a record number of assists, but because we changed our tactics making him less effective he's now a midfielder? Utterly bizarre.

Steady Seano I hope Ed025 doesn’t read your post mate about Trent being one of the top right backs in the game, he will have you hunted and strung up.

{Ed025's Note - poor in the air and not being able to tackle rules him out for me DTD, but i dont want this to sound like a witch hunt so i will say he is world class and can play in any position mate..because it seems thats what you all want to hear..

Trent has always been a midfielder and he played that position for far longer than at RB. The only bizarre things are that he wasn’t put in that position in the older tactics when our midfield was in desperate need of legs and creativity, or when we changed tactics allowing his defensive frailties to be consistently exploited.
He is a midfielder. He’s too creative to not be used there and too much of a liability to be in the back line.

Ed25, he is not poor in the tackle, IMO. He is quite good if not very good, IMO. There have been many times where he has he prevented goals from happening while coming in on the cover and tackling the ball away cleanly.

There's a reason he is yet to concede a penalty while tackling in the box, I think.

I do agree with you that his heading game does need work, tho. Just my opinion.

{Ed025's Note - i must admit he was a better tackler before last season oli, and i dont know whether that was because he seemed to lose his mojo as a fullback or what, but he does have a lot to offer and his passing is second to none, i just think he needs his position defined as i dont hold with this roaming freerole malarkey mate..

You're spot on Ed25 ?

We can even sell Kelleher and use TAA as th3 backup keeper.

Funny thing is that these guys calling TAA world class are most likely the same guys who, a few months back, were saying that we should sell TAA.

Everything is about perspective but football is about perspective depending on the form of a player or a team. Also known as being fickle.

{Ed025's Note - some have that red tinted specs syndrome GMB, i will give praise if it is deserved mate but also reserve the right to voice my opinion if they are poor, but in the end it is just an opinion and should not be taken as gospel..

Lad can’t defend I’m with Ed on this! He’s a wand of a foot we all know but he’s not a defender for me I think he will be a weapon in the middle! I won’t judge against Malta!

I would push TAA into the midfield, with Alexis and then Fabinho or Fabs replacement should we sell him

His passing ability would be of better use with him in the midfield I reckon.

Depends on what you want from a RB. Trent was great for us and our main creative outlet when the team was set up right to use his considerable talents. Can we get a better defensive player? Sure. But would we have had the success we had in the last few years? Who knows. He's absolutely the best FB in the world when put in a system that plays to his strengths.

Put Trent in a poor team at right back and see how he gets on! Let’s also see how he gets on in midfield against a good team first, it’s easy when there’s no pressure on the ball. Granted, he’s a Great passer of the ball.

He has only played in midfield a few times and is probably top 10 midfielders in the world. He is just a world class footballer so proud he is from Liverpool and is such a blooming lovely chap. Definitely my new man crush for life.

Jurgen never had the "bottle" to play TAA in midfield all season, it took Southgate to show him the way home?

I think people are overcomplicating it. England are stacked with quality right-back options but are pretty poor in midfield, Trent is perfectly capable of being an excellent midfielder so Southgate put 2 and 2 together and for once came up with a relatively good idea.

Trent was a great defender, when he wanted to be. For me, it was more the lack of effort for 90min than a lack of talent when defending. He is/ was capable of shutting down the opposition but just seemed like he couldn’t be bothered at times.

You don’t win what Trent has won as a RB if you are no good. On form he’s one of the best full backs in the world without question.

He’s not dominant in the air but how many fullbacks are? I can’t think of many.

The question is, has he had enough of playing RB now? I’d say it looks that way as when he was moved to the hybrid role his defending improved massively which tells me it was an attitude issue rather than an ability issue. He just looked more interested when given a more central role.

Footballers are human after all and sometimes need a change to keep their motivation. I’ve been through a similar thing in my job, after years of doing the same thing you just get a bit bored and need a shake up.

Looked toothless in the 10 last night, only set up the first with a beautiful pass, scored a wordlie and had a hand in the third ?.
Toothless I tell thee.

Ed025. I don't like his attitude. Just exudes arrogance now which is a real shame for a boy born in Liverpool.

{Ed025's Note - i dont know where you get that from MIZER?, seems like a nice young lad to me (born in stourbridge by the way), sounds like a bit of sour grapes that to me mate because he never signed for liverpool..

Anyone and I mean anyone who thinks The Waistcoat has any ability to show Klopp the way home on anything that has to do with football tactics or management literally needs to quit watching the sport and give their heads SEVERAL wobbles. Absolute waffle.

Ed25, you’re preaching to the choir on that last part regarding the inverted fullback malarkey cos that’s what it is: Absolute malarkey. Footie is not complicated except for those who try to reinvent the wheel, imo.

For me, Trent is ready to play in midfield right now and will save us easily 70m should he be moved there this season. Like you, it’s going to be a problem when other teams figure us out. Spoiler alert: They are already doing that. Just ask Spurs and Villa last season.

{Ed025's Note - i think midfield is the place for him oli but for me he needs to have his position defined, im not a fan of this free role position where he flits in and out of the game mate, right or central mid for me..
