Not sure what all the hype is about macalister, certainly does not take any sting out of going for second or in this case fourth best after pulling out of the Bellingham chase after a year of tapping up

Hope the next few signings are a bit more inspiring. Certainly won't be dethroned citeh.

{Ed025's Note - i think hes a great player FB..

Macalisster looks pretty press resistant to me. Good technically, ability to turn out of tight spaces and start attacks, breaks the lines either with a dribble a pass or a one two. Very intelligent player who also works hard. Think he would be a good addition for the midfield. He's similar to Gini I feel, more technical maybe abit less pace and aerial presence.

Finally we’re looking at buying PROVEN premier league experience, still relatively young and entering his prime years as a midfielder and has been a standout in an entertaining team this year, no concerning injury record. Makes sense to me….

And he's scored 12 goals this season. pretty decent I'd say.

He’s a smart, excellent player who will replace Henderson if he joins.

Fatboy, have you seen him play consistently? Cos I have and he is absolutely amazing. Everything Redwills said about him is true. He is not like Bellingham cos he is a better player which is not a slight on MacAlister, IMO. If that's who Klopp wants then so be it and I think he will be very good for us. Wait and see.

He's just an incredibly enhanced version of wijnaldum who everyone likes to cry out that we never replaced.

I compare to wijnaldum in the sense they can do bit of everything. No major standout or weakness to the game except rather than wiji being a 6/ 10 GMac is an 8/ 10.

If we are to persist with this 3-box-3 system, presumably he would play where Curtis is currently playing rather than where Hendo plays.

If it is 433 - which really has been more of a 424 with the right sided 8 (usually Hendo) pushing high and wide to overload, then he'd probably play where Thiago tends to start at left-8.

With that in mind, you can see where Mount fits. To play that right sided 8 or 10 position that Hendo has been occupying over the last few years.

Mac Allister instantly improves our midfield. We still need one or two more though.

He is worth half the reported £70 million fee, can someone tell me what he is going to bring that Jones isn't? I've watched him a few times since the world cup and he really doesn't stand out at all, for that fee i want stand out, straight in the side players, he isn't stand out better than Jones, can he or should he really take minutes off Elliott whos biggest problem is his pace, MacAllister is no speed demon, it makes little sense to pay such a high fee.

Lancaster, i think you're looking at it wrong. It's not about replacing Jones it's about buying competition.

MacAllister is like Gundogan. Intelligence with and without the ball, uses his body well to shield the ball, can play anywhere in midfield, and scores about 10 goals a season in the process.

For me he is a top class player. Maybe not world class but neither were Hendo or Gini when we were winning things. Players who fit the way we want to play are more important than super star names who stand out, as you put it.

MacAllister can easily play with Jones. This new system we're working on is better when the midfielders who push on can offer a threat in the final 3rd. We currently only have Jones and Elliott who do carry a threat and to a lesser extent Henderson who has a decent delivery into the box if nothing else. Elliott is a weak link in the press though as he loses more 50/ 50's than he wins, and Henderson just doesn't score enough goals. So Jones is our only midfielder suited to playing this way. MacAllister and Mount are probably the main targets for exactly that reason. They are hard workers who score goals.

Spot on, MKS. Jones is not getting replaced. We need mids' to come in and bolster the first 11 which MacAllister will do, IMO. Jones is not a first 11 regular that can start 15 games in a row. At least, not yet. MacAllister is and since he and Jones are technically sound ballers (along with Thiago and Trent), he will feel right at home.

As for Mount, Pelican said it right there. We are looking at him to play that no. 8 role on the right side as his skill set fits the way Klopp wants in that position. If that is the case then, Im good with him coming. The fee? If Klopp wants him then, what can I say?

@Lancaster if you do not know or cannot see what MacAllister brings then just maybe, you should try to watch him a lot closer with an open mind cos I deduce from your post that you are expecting things from him that are not part of his game nor what he is actually efficient and great at. I could be wrong, of course.

Mcallister is a fantastic signing and if we can bring in two more of a similar level alongside a CB that will soften the blow of this season.

@ MK, informative reply cheers, i'm not seeing him as a Jones replacement, i think Jones is class, it's his price, he seems good at a lot and not stand out at something, that is why i think he is at the price of say £30-35 mill, for £70 mill I would expect someone who can run a midfield, i think we are getting screwed for the fee, maybe stick the add ons to reach a higher amount but the price is the sore point imo
@ Oli, the price is my problem, seen him the last few matches and he is tidy but he isn't a £70 mill player.

Ahhh i see Lancaster. Apologies mate i misinterpreted your concern! I guess you can argue the price is high for a player with 2 good seasons behind him. I think it reflects his versatility and tactical awareness though which is the best of any player I've seen outside of the top 6. I'd also add that because he is not a player who relies on blistering pace or brute strength, he is the sort who can play at the top well into his 30's. Players with quick minds last longer than players with quick legs. So MacAllister is an 8-10 year investment.
