Evening all,

Is it unlikely that LFC will look to add to the current first team squad in January? Or is there a chance we could get a surprise like we did with Diaz?

Thanks

Can we pin ed2 and ed1's posts about targets and realistic approach to building a team. Coming on here every other day and reading the same desperate posts craving for transfers is . . . well anyways lol FSG all the way!

Reminiscent of the Simpsons "are we there yet? ".

I am sure we'll try to do something to try and correct the mistakes made in the summer. Of course that is based on no information at all.

Looking back at FSG's history, we have made more moves in the January window than you realise - Suarez, Carroll (doh), Coutinho, Sturridge, Virgil, Minamino and Diaz.

Some notable pre-FSG signings under Rafa - Robbie Fowler (part II) and Javier Macherano! Not bad!

Caulker, Kabak and Davies are the painful memories of course.

I really wish people would give over about FSG’s (lack of) transfer spend. It’s a matter of record that they have spent over £ 1 billion on first team squad acquisitions since they took over - 1 BILLION (Transfermarkt) .

I understand it’s the fan’s forum version of lazy journalism, but if people really think a billion is not a significant spend, can I come round to your house and dig out the spare change from the back of your settees, please? Your idea of spare cash is obviously going to be a lot different to mine.

How much has been recouped WDW. For me when you are considering the Financial side of Liverpool FC its important to know both figures.

For me the £1 billion only means that managers have had money to replace other players but it doesn't tell you if FSG are willing to back a manager in the market or only do so by breaking even after sales. Big Difference in my opinion.

I have no expectations so the only thing that will surprise me is if we actually do something. I hope we do BUT ain't worried about it. It's not something anyone outside the club can control anyway.

But they have been backing the manager, no? Who have they actually denied Klopp from adding to the team?

What things do people outside of the club actually control?

There's a difference between who Klopp wanted to sign and fans wanted to sign. Then there's the signings that fans claim Klopp wanted to make but was denied by FSG - in other words still signings that fans wanted.

@Irish, as I said on the transfer board - the club spend money to bring in players the coaching staff think will improve the strength of the squad and sell players who have either reached the limit of what they can contribute or don’t live up to potential / expectations. Of course we sell - all clubs sell it is the nature of the game to trade and hopefully (work towards) balancing the books.

If you look back I don’t think sales of our players are ever mentioned when we get the regular ‘terminological inexactitude’ that FSG don’t spend money on the team. Again, if people don’t think that £ 1 billion isn’t a decent spend then there must be some pretty well off contributors to the forum. Just saying.

WDW/ All, i believe net spend over the last decade is circa £340MM, which is outside of the top 10 across Europe and from what i have seen recently (if accurate? ) is even less than West Ham as one example. However, I do not necessarily think this is a bad situation and let me explain why: -

1. It does not take into consideration the funds spent on developing the football club overall, including for example Anfield main stand and away stand, and of course the new training complex which is as good as if not better than anything else out there.
2. I also think it demonstrates how fantastic the Commercial and Footballing side of management (primarily Klopp and coaches) have been, to be able to produce a squad and playing style that has (injuries apart) allowed us to truly compete at the top table on a regular basis.

I have loved the ride over the last decade and get enormous satisfaction knowing that the club has progressed significantly on and off the pitch since FSG took over (remember we nearly went out of business under the Texas goons! ), and this has been done on a comparatively frugal budget compared to the majority.

Lets continue to beat the odds and enjoy the wonderful work seen over thsi period. YNWA.

ConsLFC.

{Ed001's Note - you have to remember West Ham also have a govt-funded stadium, which gives them much more spending power than they had in the past. Added to fresh investment from Daniel Kretinsky on top of that.}

Exactly Ed1. For me, the base put in place by FSG in terms of investment off the pitch and particularly on the Commercial side increasing revenues means that we should, hopefully, be able to compete seriously based on the funds that we generate ourselves. I know there are some debts which need to be carefully managed, but nothing like what Utd or some others are dealing with today? Please do correct me if i am wrong.

There are many on this site that simply want billionaires to pump unlimited funds for stars, but i'll be honest, i love and much prefer to magic of scouting a Robertson, a modest priced Salah, TAA from the academy etc. We are hard working normal people (in the main! lol) and there is definitely part of me that likes being the underdog and proving the so called entitled wrong!

YNWA.

{Ed001's Note - they are not perfect but no owner is. I would certainly prefer them to Qatar or Saudi Arabia owning the club. Neither of those are in line with what the club stands for.}
