Any of the eds heard anything about a move to Spain for Darwin Nunez this summer? Just a rumour I'd heard. Thanks in advance!

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Nothing to see here, move along.

I think it's very likely, decent place to go on a family holiday and he doesn't strike me as the Vegas type. I reckon he'll go for a couple of weeks.

Tbh struggling to see how he fits in to the team next season.

Diaz is clearly first choice on the left - even though I don’t think Nunez is good enough to play on the left irrespective of Diaz.

It also seems like Gakpo has nailed down the CF position with Klopp preferring a firmino type player in there to join in with the build up play and retain possession rather than an out and out number 9.

Basically means Nunez will be limited to impact sub/ rotation as he is defs not in our strongest 11. Strange considering we spent so much on him but really see gakpo as signed pretty much as his replacement in the 11.

You have to find a way to use him centrally. He has all the attributes to be a top LFC striker.

I suspect Luis Diaz's injury in October changed our season plans for him to play more centrally.

Given Gakpo is so tactically versatile, we may see him moved around to accommodate the unlocking of Darwin. Gakpo has the ability to play as a false 9 in a 433, tip of 442 diamond, no10 in a traditional 442 and one of the 10s in a box midfield. In all but the 433, Darwin could play centrally without having to come deep.

The big concern is, as Ed alluded to earlier, that we overcomplicate things with our resident galaxy brain.

I can see Nunez, Gakpo and Diaz rotating to be honest.
3 top players across 2 positions is about right for a team that has ambitions to be challenging on all fronts.
Each player brings something different to the game as well so you chop and change depending on who your playing against.
I still see Jota leaving to be honest.

@Joshkel

That’s like saying you don’t see how Grealish and Foden play for city when they have Mahrez.

Or how Alvarez plays when they have Haaland.

Throughout the course of a season there will be plenty of games.

It’s a squad game. And this season has shown with the various injuries that we need more than 3 high quality forward players.

Luckily most of them can play multiple positions.

At some point I think Nunez is going to just set alight and be phenomenal. I'd say he's had a pretty decent first season actually but I think it's just a little hint of what he can do. Goals, assists, beating defenders. The nerves and tension that he struggled with initially have gone (great run, first touch and finish last night) . Fast, strong, both feet, good in the air work-rate, passion.

Don't underestimate the Diaz injury. How many times have we seen a serious injury badly affect a player?

Torres, Virgil, Fowler, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc.

I'm not saying he's done but just suggesting we temper our expectations and don't overly rely on him for at least 6-12 months.
