Cole Palmers potentially is going to be very special. Wish we would have gotten him.

25 Jun 2024 22:12:16
Come on, it's not all about Trent and not everyone was blaming him.
We don't have many midfield options and we've lacked pace up front.
The best midfielder we have, Bellingham, looks tired. I'd have taken him and Kane off.
Get Foden nearer to the middle- even as false nine- and get some pace out wide.

{Ed025's Note - Gareth out Rigsby in...there iv called it..

25 Jun 2024 22:16:58
Took Gallagher off at half time because it’s the system not Trent’s fault

Brings Gordon on with a minute to go

Starts Saka over palmer when Saka looks burnt out and palmer has destroyed premier league

Was pelted with plastic cups by fans at end of match with no players near him and rightly so, makes my blood pressure boil and I’m not even English.

My waistcoat is ready and I'm just waiting for a phone call, Ed025.
I'm going to leave Cole Palmer out just to annoy everybody though.

{Ed025's Note - swap him for Trent Rigsby and you would be a national hero mate..

After the Denmark game Southgate said directly: “We know we don't have a natural replacement for Kalvin Phillips”

Set aside the insanely negative tactics that alone should get him sacked.

England may still do something miraculous this euros but the signs aren’t good. The draw is unbelievably kind to them. There is no better chance and nowhere to hide.

6.) 25 Jun 2024
25 Jun 2024 22:42:53
Aaaah but Trent with his wand of a right foot can't head a ball, Ed025.
We need to head our way to winning the Euros.

Bellingham was awful yesterday. Both Gordon and Palmer needs to start.

26 Jun 2024 07:49:31
Natural replacement for Kalvin Phillips? How about a tub of lard. It’s fat and it can’t move, job done.

{Ed025's Note - another player you like then VV.. :)

Bellingham couldn’t even control the ball. He was worse than awful he looked like he’d never played football before.

Harry Kane has lost any pace he had which wasn’t much to begin with and he can’t hold the ball up. So what’s the point in playing him? For tap ins? Penalties?

The whole team looks lethargic and scared. I don’t think Trent should play in midfield but at least he’s prepared to play a risky pass. It’s the lack of movement in front of him that’s the bigger issue. Everyone is hiding and when they get the ball they can’t wait to get rid of it.

Even when they do force themselves to run at someone it’s done with a total lack of conviction so they lose the ball.

The most important quality an England manager needs is charisma and an ability to motivate. Forget tactics they don’t have enough time to prepare tactics properly.

Southgate has zero charisma and zero ability to motivate his players. As a result he consistently sends them out looking flat with no idea of the role they should be playing.

That was yet another 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back. I might just go out for a round of golf during England’s next match I’m not sure I can sit through that again.

Kane has been terrible. Palmer and Gordon should be on . Trent back in.

Let’s be honest, England were no better last night. Even after the substitutions, although they looked like they were pushing higher up the pitch and creating more it’s only really because Slovenia are a very weak team who were happy to take a draw and therefore camped in their own box. Ultimately, England created 1 half chance and Palmer wasted it with a tame shot far too close to Oblak. That game could’ve gone on another 90 minutes and England wouldn’t have scored unless a jammy ricochet had fallen kindly for a tap in like the first 2 games were England scabbed a goal. The only shots hit with conviction were Rice about 70 minutes in which he hammered wide and Trent about 90 minutes in which he hammered over. Everything else was weak and never going to beat probably the only keeper in world football as good as Alisson. Takes a top finish to beat Oblak. Not Foden floating a free kick towards the top corner or Palmer rolling it towards the near post.

Wassa
If you listen to the interview with Southgate what he actually said is
We don't have a natural replacement for (A) Kalvin Phillips.
ie. a Kalvin Phillips type of player. not Kalvin Phillips as such.
Not defending him but seems his comment may be misleading.

{Ed001's Note - there are lots of natural replacements for Phillips. You can go to any pub in the country and find a fat knacker who would get injured after running 5 yards. Southgate was simply trying to deflect blame for him being useless onto Trent. I said the moment Southgate decided to put Trent in midfield he was setting him up to be the scapegoat. The waistcoated gimp may not be the brightest bulb in the box, but he is defo amongst the slyest people in football.}

It's Shameless how Trent has been treated. To be frank Gallagher is no better.

{Ed014's Note - there is only one person to blame and it’s that utter chump Southgate, I can’t listen to the prick and the utter bollox that comes out of his mouth.

Totally wasting a pretty talented group of players and has done since his joke of an appointment.

The top boys at the FA need a slap! ?’s

To be fair Ed001 he may have many faults but at least he is an inspirational leader. Got my rod and hook ready.
What was the point of bringing a striker on with 1 minute left on the clock. How have England gone our most talented squad in years (as per many experts) to last nights woeful display.

{Ed001's Note - I don't get all this talk of how he united the squad either, long gone have been the days of cliques. Those days vanished the moment Fergie quit. And they were already on the way out before then, in large part, it must be said, to Rooney. He was just mates with everyone, so he would wander between the cliques and then they just naturally ended up dissolving as he became a conduit for conversation and friendship between the groups. Southgate had nothing to do with bringing the players together, by his time they were already all friendly.

Southgate is just a crap manager, a terrible coach and is very much an English Steve Clarke on the tactical front.}

16.) 26 Jun 2024
26 Jun 2024 11:12:53
England lacks a true Rodri in there to sit and command the defense. They also lack proper wide players who can take on a man and beat them. Gordon has pace and can beat a man and he must play.
Rice was abysmal yesterday. And I don’t know what is the use of playing Kane if he is dropping to be a midfielder?

{Ed001's Note - it is nothing to do with a lack of players of any type. It would not matter if he had the real Ronaldo, Mbappe, Henry up front, Xabi Alonso anchoring a midfield with Cruyff and Seedorf in front of him, Southgate would still set up in a crap tactical system akin to the one Clarke used with Scotland.}

Whether it's through been overplayed etc Bellingham was poor in almost all of Madrid champs league knock out games as well.

People are expecting too much. He's 21 years old and no matter how much England fans tell themselves Jude is the second coming he isn't in the same category as Messi et al yet.

I also personally think this idea of him having no position and running literally all over the pitch is very tactically naive and puts too much pressure on him to be everywhere. He's not a 10, move him further back and give him some positional discipline and not only will it get the best out of him it will also open up room for saka and foden to cut inside, right now everyone is trying to occupy that space in the middle.

It's just tactical mismanagement brought about by a manager who doesn't actually have an attacking mentality.

18.) 26 Jun 2024
26 Jun 2024 12:01:26
Sent too soon. As Ed25 said, you can give Southgate Rodri, CR7, Pele, Maldini all in their pomp and he will still mess it up.

19.) 26 Jun 2024
26 Jun 2024 12:21:40
Bellingham can play 10 but he doesn't look like he can play anywhere at the moment.
I'd give Foden a chance there or even as a false 9 and play a couple of wide players. We've got Salah, Palmer and Gordon to do that.
We may improve if the better teams have a go at us and take more chances but we need to keep the ball better and pass it with some intent.

{Ed025's Note - we may need to check Salah,s passport Rigsby.. :)

20.) 26 Jun 2024
26 Jun 2024 12:31:52
I can’t see a Southgate team talk arousing anyone either the players look half asleep. I can’t see him
Screaming and shouting like a pep or a Klopp, what’s worst is he’s that arrogant that he will still play the exact same team and system for next game when the likes of mainoo palmer Gordon should be playing, even Trent at right back. No runners at all so even with his defensive style he can’t even counter attack. Buffoon and arrogant.

21.) 26 Jun 2024
26 Jun 2024 14:26:53
Comparing him to Steve Clarke isn't very fair ed001 lol, clarke has very limited resources at his disposal and has done okay considering, i think Scotland were actually quite interesting to watch in qualifying with mctominay and mcginn being the main goal threats haha, certainly a damn sight more interesting than England anyway.

And might I suggest playing Bellingham as a false 9 if anybody is going to be used in that role? Though I still think starting Watkins rather than Kane has to be the way to go at any rate. Any sort of striker who will run in behind would be better than Kane.

{Ed001's Note - Clarke is the same safety first, dog muck manager as Southgate. It wouldn't matter who either of them had at their disposal, they would still play tedious defensive football because that is what they believe is best. Clueless the pair of them.}

Obviously I meant Kaka.

{Ed025's Note - love it Rigsby..

23.) 26 Jun 2024
26 Jun 2024 16:15:28
Ed25, I think the same about Clarke. When they decided to play to wibn vs Hungary, they played some decent stuff so it is not like they have no way of playing well. they do so Clarke's snoozeball is killing them, IMO.

Look, Scotland may not have world beaters BUT they got some good to very good players in Robbo, Tierney, a decent striker in Che Adams, MacTominay who is decent in attack and of course, John MacGin and Gilmore (who I both rate) in midfield. They are well organised and all that BUT I think if a more front foot manager took over, they can get better.

{Ed025's Note - that is the second post you have replied to me rather than the proper editor ED001, ....stalking is an offence mate.. :)

When was it that a team last qualified to the knock-out stages of a major football tournament and the fans at the match threw things at the manager?

He talks absolute garbage in both what he is saying and also the pseudo-intellectual way he tries to put things., is a poor football and man manager and, as I keep saying he has never won anything as a manager, ever.

His idea of football is not to lose and if people think that’s ok then I honestly can’t see the point in having a football discussion.
