Ed1 would love your opinion on Sturridge. He has been out injured for a long time so still feeling his way back in and is not going to be at his best, which is understandable and won't see the best of him maybe until next season. Correct me if I am wrong but the way he is playing is if he is holding back and playing at 50% like he is scared to go anywhere close to 100% as he will get injured. Jamie Carragher described it perfectly that he is "running and playing like he is carrying an injury". It appears he is lazy and disinterested but I think its a mental thing and don't think he has sprinted since being back, is the Euro's at the back of his mind? peoples constantly bashing him for being injured all the time? Would love your take on it as he is our best finisher but currently the way he is playing is killing his game and ours.

Alonso8605

{Ed001's Note - it usually takes a player many months to get themselves back. He is still holding back, in my opinion as well, but it takes time to feel fully comfortable pushing yourself after such a long layoff.}

Thanks Ed1 for the reply your opinion is always appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - you are very welcome mate.}

Just continuing on alonso's original post ed, over the last few matches when studge has been substituted he hasn't made any effort to hide that he's pretty pi***d about it. Add the recent fan backlash over his injury record and other reports about wanting to leave/ other clubs interested, do you think it's a possibility studge is ready to call quits and seek a move away this summer?

Or is this just me reading way too much into nothing.

{Ed001's Note - no he is just disappointed in his performance.}

3.) 03 Apr 2016 11:10:05
I agree with the thoughts he's holding back, and it's difficult to blame him. He's not got anywhere near his top speed yet which we all know is awesome. Hopefully he gets through this season and the euros (presuming he's selected) and can then get a full pre season with a fresh start in August. It definitely looks to be a mental issue at the moment which will probably only be resolved by staying injury free. I'm wishing the lad all the best as he's superb when fit and firing and we need him big time. He'd cost a lot of money to replace in my opinion.

4.) 03 Apr 2016 12:33:28
I think the fear would be there is he came off smiling. There shouldn't be a single player who wants to go so ft the pitch or be happy about being subbed.

{Ed001's Note - exactly. If he was happy to be taken off early after playing badly, then you would be worried. The only time a player wants to come off early, and it is a good thing, is to get a standing ovation if they have had a fantastic game and you are winning comfortably.}

Spot on Ed. couldn't agree more.

I noticed it since he has come back and seems others have too that it appears Sturridge is holding back due to being scared of getting injured. He is not sprinting for anything and "runs and plays as though he is carrying an injury" as Jamie Carragher put it because he is scared if he goes at anything close to 100% he will pick up an injury. This unfortunately is killing his game and also the way we play. On form he is out best striker just hope it is a mental thing that he will overcome sooner rather than later.

What I see is a player who wants out.

2.) 03 Apr 2016 02:52:05
I saw that too. How else do you explain literally strolling g out of the pitch with what 20 plus minutes to go when your team is desperately trying to score? Very annoying today Sturridge. Watch Lallana sprint out when substituted a few minutes later, and you'd see something is wrong with Sturridge.

3.) 03 Apr 2016 20:44:01
probably annoyed with himself for missing 2 great chances, would be my guess, and would you go charging into tackles when you have been as injured as he has? that body has to last him beyond being a professional footballer. Ignore the pundits and there half arsed physcolgy its all done to create stories and situations that are not there half the time, if he had taken those chances, we would be hailing his brilliance and mental strength.

This summer I feel we need to strengthen our goalie and recruit someone as what we have now is not good enough. Klopp should wait until summer if nothing of quality is avaiable now and spend big on a quality striker in the summer. Personally I would move Benteke on and keep Origi, Ings and Sturridge. Benteke is frustrating as he seems to be making all the wrong runs and decisions and I mean all, I am not sure what's happened. Sturridge when fit, key word "when" is the best striker in the League and was only second to Suarez for me who was on another level to anyone else.

On a side note I don't know what it is but I have a soft spot for Joe Allen and want him to stay. I know he gets a lot of flak but he seems a hard worker and nice guy and recently has been reliable when called on.

Defence for me has to be sorted and that starts with a settled back 5, where having a goalie who instils confidence in his defence improves the back 4. Flanagan when fully fit would be my right back, he personifies Klopps ethos and seems a hard worker but also has talent. Left back would be Brad Smith, Moreno has the pace and attacking prowess to be a good left back but lacks two vital components wit the first being concentration and second being decision making. Brad Smith seems a more well-rounded left back and with coaching will only get better. Central Defence I would have Sakho and Lovren, they just need to stay fit and literally play together for a substantial amount of games.

Interesting rest of the season left as we still have 3 cups to play for and one of them we are in the final and top 4 still to play for although I think that ship sailed.

What is it lately with people just spamming dislike on completely reasonable posts?

2.) 30 Jan 2016 21:33:33
Agree with pretty much all this post I know what you mean about Allen really want him to do well with us, he's defo got the talent if he could get some consistency to his game which he seems to be doing under klopp he could be like a new signing for us, anyway all to play for 2nd half of the season. YNWA jft96.

I wanted to get you opinion on the problem areas in our team what you would do and the players you would like to see fill those places. Defensive midfield and central defence. Would Gary Medel still be your choice? Also is he out of our reach or a player that is attainable if we were to make a move. With defence I think Sakho and Gomez/Llori when back would be pretty strong but again would like your thoughts.

Alonso8605

{Ed002's Note - Gomez might be ready to play as a centre back in a year or two, but he isn't ready at EPL level right now. Ilori has only played a handful of games in total over the past two year s and none for Liverpool at all. What makes you so convinced he'd be so suitable to step in?}

1.) 08 Oct 2015 09:56:44
Imo the 2 first things klopp will identify is that we have an awful Goalkeeper and we lack a real passer of the ball in midfield.

2.) 08 Oct 2015 09:58:47
I reckon Klopp might try and do for Can what he did for Hummels. Hummels was a defensive midfielder and Klopp turned him into a centre back.
Sakho will be his partner at the back.
Lucas as defensive midfield with Hendo/Milner alongside.

3.) 08 Oct 2015 10:02:31
Stick with the current pairing for now, not the best with skrtel but it's better than throwing in young untested players

4.) 08 Oct 2015 10:04:11
I am not convinced but if we don't give them a chance we will never know. I like Sakho, just need to find a good partner for him. Gomez might not be ready as a centre back and he might perform well if given the chance. Llori has looked decent when on loan and also in the under 21's again completely different to cutting it in the league. If those two are not ready, which again nothing has suggested otherwise I would say we need to go and buy a defender, who that is I don't know as Lovren and Martin are simply not good enough.

Lifelongred I agree if we can get a new keeper sort the defence out, personally would player Sakho and Gomez/Llori and get a good defensive midfielder Medel or Lars Bender then I think we are on our way. We actually have good players that just need to perform and be played in their natural positions. Also if Sturridge stays fit in the high press system should get a few goals this season.

He may look awkward but if you had watched every game last season closely you would see he is our best ball playing CB by a mile and it was his passing that impressed me the most. He needs to work on his heading as one other poster mentioned among a few other areas but next to the right defender and behind Lucas/another defensive midfielder he would be more comfortable. Would love Medel but it looks like we are not making any attempts to sign the player.

Thanks Macca and ED2 your knowledge and insight are much appreciated. Well guess we have to move fast if we are to get the Kono deal done.
