Ed02 - thanks for your input into Liverpool’s manager search in terms of keeping us updated. And what a brilliant shout in relation to you saying we should consider Slot. Was he always the number one target or was that Alonso? And what do you think Mr Slot will do for this Liverpool team in your opinion?

Also Ed1 - keen for your views too.

{Ed002's Note - The targets were Alonso > Amorim > Slot}

I’m dreading next season under Slot. This could be one of the worst managerial signings in our history. Worse than Roy Hodgson. I do hope I am wrong.

Or it could be one of the best in our history. Better than klopp. I do hope I am right.

Let's be real here, even if it had of been Alonso, we don't know how he'd do, we don't know how any manager will do, we just have to go with the flow and get behind them whilst hoping for the best.

This fella is coming to a job under a great amount of pressure, give him a break, he knows how big this is. He deserves us to be on his side.

I know literally bugger all about him but one I can't turn my back on someone who hasn't even been given a chance yet. Let him do his job and we'll see where we are this time next year, it'll be interesting.

Well credit to Slot for having the cojones to try and follow Klopp.

I think it's a relief knowing who's coming next and maybe it's the same for the players. Maybe we'll see the players pick up a bit of form for the rest of the season now that this is behind them as well; they are human just like us and I'm sure it's affected them too.

TheOne23 you COULD get hit by a car this morning, the roof on your house COULD blow off, you COULD catch a cold, are you getting my drift.

COULD isn't a factual word so why not use it for a positive mindset like, Slot COULD win us the EPL next season.

Give the guy a chance. He’s very highly rated, he’s also an in demand coach (Spurs, Chelsea and West Ham last summer and ourselves, Bayern, Milan and Barcelona this summer) . I like that he’s backing himself for the job and is keen to join us, the fact that rather than engaging and entertaining Amorim’s demands we just went straight for Slot suggests to me that Amorim was only marginally ahead of Slot in our thinking and not enough that he was worth it. If that had been Alonso I think we would have placated him. I like how Slot comes across and I think he has a presence about him that good leaders and managers have, confidence, not afraid to make decisions and he is a good communicator, straight talking and no BS. We can now go into to the summer knowing we have a manager sorted, knowing he has a plan and we can prepare for the future. Of all the options available to us, I think we have done well. We’ve gone for a progressive highly regarded coach who has had success and built squads, I can’t think of one better option we could have got in, given that Alonso said absolutely no.

27 Apr 2024 11:04:36
In my opinion we have Erik Ten Hag number 2. Are you telling me Slot is better than Tuchel? Even De Zerbi? It appears we have gone for Slot because he’s a nice guy and won’t ruffle any feathers. I’m afraid nice guys don’t win League titles. Under Klopp we have been consistently challenging for the League title. If Slot does that then great but I reckon under Slot we will struggle to qualify for the Champions League and win the odd Cup. For Liverpool following Klopp that will not be good enough.

{Ed025's Note - come on mate he has not even managed 1 game yet and you are already writing him off?..best supporters in the world my arse..

27 Apr 2024 17:52:16
If Slot does well I will be back on here holding my hands up but I’m not convinced.

Can one of the Eds help me out here and I apologise if it's been asked but what is the process of hiring a new manager, I'm guessing it's not like going to a job interview, if said chosen manager has to do negotiations with agents etc, I'm thinking that for example Slot hasn't had an interview with the LFC hierarchy yet but it looks like it's a given that the job is his looking at the news, would LFC know what he's all about or does he's old club allow him to meet and he then puts across his ideas for the club etc and what if LFC doesn't like said ideas, do they then say "no you're not for us".

{Ed002's Note - The process is approach the agent to see if there is possible interest > approach the club and ask permission to talk > discuss it with the potential candidate > agree a deal via the agent > else move on.}

Hi Eds

Hope ypu are all well.

With the new manager pretty much sorted, do you think the club will allow any player or staff to follow Klopp put if they want to go or will they attempt to block departures depending on their player or staff status?

Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - Staff are departing - the club know that. Players will leave but not because of Klopp as such.}

Other than Salah and potentially Diaz, do we know of any interest in any of our players Ed? Or any putting feelers out via their agents?

{Ed002's Note - Yes there is interest in some players. We have been through this.}

Bakayoko and Hancko would be good additions
Still prefer Kudus and Inacio though.

Credit to you.

26 Apr 2024 21:48:19
Bakayoko for me he's younger and kudus has only done well in flashes.

26 Apr 2024 22:00:16
Think we missed a trick not going for Kudus last summer. Much more pricey now.

26 Apr 2024 19:27:15
It could be Rotterdam or anywhere, Liverpool or Rome
Wherever Arnie manages,
He'll never need a comb, never need a comb.

{Ed025's Note - i like that MBR..

Disclaimer: this is not a dig at anyone here, as I've always enjoyed the banter, the debates, the primadonnas, the negative nancys, the in-the-knows, the former Chief scout(s), the informative, heck even some of the trolls.. I've been lurking for many years on here, and though I only recently started partaking in the debates, I've always felt like it's been a well rounded mix of passionate supporters, with different ideas and agendas, coming together on this forum. So please stay with me, even though I know it’s a long read.

At this moment of time, I don't think I've ever seen this much of a collective puke-fest, it's quite astonishing really. We've all come together in the most agreeable of ways, even Lee(k) is starting to make sense (I was about to say Harry too, but funnily enough he seems to have disappeared, probably to the blue side of Manchester). And you just know that when you’re reading on, seeing threads where negativewalter and Salah, probably the two most detrimental opposites, are suddenly agreeing - a new era has been reached, and it’s a bit of an absurd one. It's created this weird echo-chamber of togetherness, we're all crying for change, hopelessly clinging on to the little bit of hope we've had taken from us - and where some label this as sweet 16 entitled teenage girl birthday party-syndrome, at the end of it all I just realise how deeply passionate we all are - not just for this team, but for this game - and how hard done by it we’ve all been in recent times.

All of us are of course disappointed with how this season is coming to an end, there’s no point in trying to hide it. But on top of that, I feel most of us are even more fed up with how the state of the game as a whole is fast and surely degrading. In recent times (the last year or two, but maybe especially this season), negativity has spread like wildfire. I’m not just talking about Liverpool supporters, but supporters of every age, nationality and team. VAR and PGMOL has turned so many of us off of the game, the obvious money grab of a WC in Qatar (as well as SA already nailing down a spot for 2034), the general amount of money being swung around like herpes at the 1969 Woodstock festival, I could probably go on with this rant, but you all get the image. The game of football is dying, and having thought more and more about it, I think the general negative consensus stems more from that, than it does from a month of bad results. The hope quickly kills you, when the results of your team is the only enjoyment left to cling on to - creating these posts and arguments, that at first might seem entitled, but with a bit of perspective seem to be rooted in something a lot bigger.

It might just be me. Maybe I’m overthinking things. But I have a feeling that this is why Klopp left. We have the VAR decision against Spurs going against us, a month later Klopp tells FSG that he’s leaving. We all know his history with refs and his dedication to the game. He is someone who’s been thriving on mentality, on the velocity and beauty of the game, on pure emotions - and now that these things are slowly but surely being sucked out of football, it just makes a lot of sense to me to see how that is mirrored in recent performances. If we as supporters are slowly falling out of love with the game, surely the same might be happening to players and coaches alike. Again, I might be trying to make add 2 + 2 and end up with 8. But the more I dive into it, the more I realise that what was once the people’s game, has now become anything but that. Maybe it started with the Premier League, I’m a 90’s kid, so I’ve only grown up knowing it as such. But in recent years, the falling out of love, as I said, seems to happen across every generation, whether you support Liverpool or Utd, whether you’re the most positively loaded human being or not. None of us can hide it anymore. It’s getting worse and worse. Football is dying, and we’re all decaying with it.

Anyways, if you made it through this rant, I sincerely applaud you. I might be talking utter bullocks, I’m not really sure anymore. I guess as so many others, I’m just trying to understand what the heck is going on with this game.

Superb written piece that, LBR. Welcome to the site. Look forward to reading more from you.

Football isn't anything like the game it used to be. We accept it or look elsewhere for entertainment. Against Everton the other night we were down 8 fouls to 1 when they scored. Back in the day never fouls but all clubs do the same thing now. We have to learn to defend it. But it's those sort of "tactics" that allow weaker teams to compete. It's a much lesser viewing spectacle at times but we are still gifted some amazing players and matches in the PL.

We lucky enough on here, we have ed25 to give us bit of counseling when things go pear shaped!
V bad month for us and everybody is v disapointed in manner we have went down without a fight, which isn't liverpool football club.
BUT we've won a cup and more than likely qualify (fairly comfortably) for champ league which 99% of other teams supporters would give there tight arm for.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely Digger, not a brilliant season mate but one most clubs would give their right arm for..

Cheers Rome, looking forward as well.
