There is nothing wrong with Nunez - he is a class act and uyou can see that in his positioning and runs. He just doesn't fit he style we play under Klopp and that's all there is to it. To get the best out of him would probably require an orthodox 4-4-2, with Jota playing off his shoulder and Gakpo as the reserve striker.

Klopp's departure is probably also weighing on the players minds. A new manager will have new ideas, new tactics, new style and will look to bring players in and offload players that don't fit.

Really, we've never got over the loss of Sadio Mane.

{Ed025's Note - there is something wrong with Nunez RL, hes a striker who cant strike mate..

25 Apr 2024 18:24:03
Yeah a 4-4-2 with a goalscorer playing alongside him ?.

25 Apr 2024 18:18:27
Ed025 I'd like to see him under a new coaching set up. This whole "finishing" topic has been going on long before nunez. I remember mane missed a massive chance against leister which cost us the game and essentially the title. I remember salah couldn't score against Madrid in the final. When it really matters there have been numerous times our "finishing" was poor.
Yes there's a discussion on nunez but he's still scored 17 goals this season and 10 assists in a system that i detest. The footballs woeful most of the time. Gakpo and gravenberch cost over 70 million and how many goals or assists have they contributed? Diaz misses massive chances all the time. There's not unlimited worldclass finishers out there. Harry kane and that's it. Maybe haland but kanes elite.

{Ed025's Note - i think i would give him another season MIZER because i feel he still has a lot to offer, but he has to improve on his finishing and composure mate..

26 Apr 2024 03:49:39
Composure is the main point Ed. I don't think I've ever seen Nunez place the ball in the corner out of reach of the keeper. He usually just smashes it full power towards the general area of the goal, even when he's a few yards away. That's whag causes him to miss so many. If he can calm down more, I think he would be a very good player.

{Ed025's Note - he is a massive threat to any opposition side Drac with his speed and directness, its just that last bit that lets him down mate and of course thats the most important bit, dont give up on him though because there is a very good player in there i believe..

26 Apr 2024 07:16:21
He is definitely too desperate to score and the only thing lacking is that bit of composure which every great striker has, I agree he needs some 1:1 coaching but they must have already identified that surely!

26 Apr 2024 11:24:25
We play 442 every week once 443 doesn't work.

25 Apr 2024 17:10:45
Saturdays game

Trent to midfield
Gomez at right back
quansah starting
Elliot in for salah
Anyone in for Nunez

Drastic but can we play any worse.

25 Apr 2024 18:09:38
Nope not for me.

25 Apr 2024 19:33:46
We need to drop this obsession with playing Trent in midfield, in my opinion. He needs to go back to playing as a right back and putting deliveries into the box. Salah has been rank awful for a while now, but playing Elliott instead of him isn't the answer either. I'd do Gakpo down the left and Diaz down the right. Nunez down the middle, as there is no one else, unless we chuck Danns in.

For the time being I'd play Endo holding midfield, though we need a replacement in the summer, Mac Allister and Elliott. I still don't fancy us and I can't wait for this season to end.

25 Apr 2024 19:51:00
So many players have just dropped right off. I'd start the players who have been putting in the effort so for me Elliott Diaz Macca and Gakpo all start. Diaz right Gakpo left Salah on the bench. I'd give Gravenberch another start and drop Szoboszlai and Jones to the bench. We only need 5 more points to guarantee top 4 so let's give players like Danns a run out as well. I'm sure he can miss just as well as the others of late.

25 Apr 2024 19:51:14
Trent does not challenge at all
Key requirement for any midfielder player

Games are won or lost in midfield

Trent is not a midfielder.

25 Apr 2024 20:50:56
For me Saturdays line up should be

Alison.
Arnold.
Van Dyjk.
Quansah.
Robertson or Gomez.
Gravenberch.
Endo.
Elliot.
Diaz
Gakpo.
Clarke or Danns.

If it’s not working by half time we can make changes.

25 Apr 2024 20:41:19
I’m with you Paisley. I just don’t see it. Literally made no challenges and pulled out of a few, in a derby, I just don’t see a midfielder there, unless he’s a luxury number 10 with zero defensive responsibilities, which we can’t afford to carry btw.

25 Apr 2024 22:52:49
I know Elliott has his good and bad games but one thing about him is his effort and work rate. He doesn't go missing and he doesn't stop trying. Jones Salah and Szoboszlai of late I forget they are playing.

25 Apr 2024 17:02:56
We win together, we lose together. Liverpool loss is my loss. I take it on chin and own up. The team is reflection of the fan. I did not do my best during each match as i was busy with work, i did not buy enough merchandise to help the club, i did not criticise enough when we were top. Its my fault. Anyone own up too?

{Ed025's Note - no...its just your fault Lee.. :)

Great stuff, cheered me up that.

25 Apr 2024 18:13:54
I haven't gave out about the owners recently, hands up my fault.!

25 Apr 2024 18:24:34
Apology accepted ?.

25 Apr 2024 18:32:36
Don't blame yourself Leek. You criticized a lot.

25 Apr 2024 19:41:38
Don't beat yourself up, Leak. You're up there with the most negative posters, so you've done your bit.

26 Apr 2024 06:38:24
When times are good they criticize.
When times are bad they apologise.

Very odd!

25 Apr 2024 16:34:36
I know this post might get some criticism but if I was in charge of the transfer dealings of a football club, I would avoid signing players from countries that play international tournaments during the season e. g. Afcon and Asia cup.

Salah got injured during afcon and has come back from his injury in the absolute worst form since he joined the club. This isn’t the first time Afcon has derailed a season during Klopp’s tenure either. I understand that these tournaments cannot be played during the summer due to temperatures but that shouldn’t mean that the club paying the players wages should suffer.

Ridiculous post. Who would you have had us sign instead of Mane and Salah who could have been half as good as they were for us?

25 Apr 2024 17:08:57
@lamborini good way to start a debate mate! It’s simply my opinion, both salah and mane were brilliant servants but both players leaving for AFCON had caused problems multiple times during klopps tenure. I don’t think it’s a wild opinion that the club paying the wages of the players should be the priority but maybe that’s just me.

25 Apr 2024 16:29:22
There's been a lot of talk lately about what Michael Edwards will or won't do to the squad this summer. Do the Eds have any knowledge on which of the signings in recent years were pushed for by the recruitment team and which were vouched for by Klopp? It know it isn't black and white. Also how do you see Michael Edwards' greater power affecting our transfers going forwards?

{Ed002's Note - Edwards does not pick the players.}

It's documented that he twisted Klopp's arm on Salah.

25 Apr 2024 13:59:36
A couple of comments. First about coming from behind, Sky posted an interesting stat. We have 27 points, when conceding first but that is our downfall, allegedly.

In second place? Manchester City, with 24 points this season after conceding first but they're going to win the league.

I don't buy the fatigue and tiredness, Klopp rotates more than any other manager in the top 3. I mean Pep barely uses 2 subs let alone 5! And Arteta has had the luxury of naming pretty much the same XI week in, week out and they still look fresh and eager for blood.

StEtienne – that’s an interesting take on it.

Our downfall is not that we have taken so many points after conceding first. That has been the strength that has allowed us to stay in the hunt so long despite this inexplicable recurring habit of starting poorly and giving the opposition a head start. The downfall is obviously not the recovery; it’s the fact that we so often find ourselves in a position needing to recover, and even if we’re good at it (the best in the league if you measure it in points terms), if you need to do it time and time and time again because you don’t address a glaring problem, sooner or later there will come an occasion (s) when you can’t turn it around. And that is where we have found ourselves lately.

Utd – we started badly, they scored first and we could only draw:
Palace – we started badly, they scored first and we then wasted a load of possession and missed chances. We lost the match 1-0
Everton – we started poorly, they scored first, we had loads of possession and chances that we didn’t take and then they scored again. We lost 2-0

That’s just recent matches. Also Luton away: we started badly, they scored, we eventually equalised but dropped points against a team who have lost 21 out of 34 matches. Brighton away: started badly, conceded first, drew, dropped two points. Arsenal at home. Started poorly and they scored very early. We drew 1-1, a better start that day might have meant a clean sheet, a win and a three point swing for us over Arsenal. And then away at Arsenal – started poorly, they scored early again and on that occasion we couldn’t turn it around.

So even though we might win the “points scored after conceding first” cup, the points we have dropped along the way by not addressing this continued problem with giving the opposition a start, could be argued to have cost us the league.

I must be the only one excited for the new season
With ----- the current squad and obviously new additions plus the youngsters who have played

Think of the impact
A new manager a new voice
New coaches
New training and overall new people aroun and ideas

It will all help the club -

Klopp has done an amazing job and now he passes the torch for the next guy

A champions league place will be gained im sure of it
One trophy won .
First season for some of the players at lfc

I think the negativity from pundits is insane
Yes it's been a poor 6 weeks but ok it happens
Happened to arsenal last year and they made more additions

Big deal
Lfc r still in aVery good place and set for next year.

Once it all calms down and everyone gets over the what should have been season.

Kloops biggest achievement was him being human, how he made us feel, how he connected with us and gave us that connection to the team and club.

Excitement will build again and next season will be a journey and hopefully we never forget that it's down to us the miserable ;) fans to keep riding the wave.

Always just enjoy the ride, it's only football but it always means more to us.

I agree, Klopp has been amazing and actually the most enjoyable part of the season was when we had all the injuries and the kids stepped up and showed we have a lot of hope for the future but of course longer players need time to find a consistent level. As much as I like Endo I think he is a good squad player but we need a stronger DM and maybe Baj could step up if he can overcome his injuries. I still think with the right coach Nunez can be a good player for us. The problem is he just thinks he has to smash the ball into the net all the time where as the top strikers don't do this. Maybe he needs some coaching from Fowler. Szob needs to play more advanced as technically he is good but the game is passing him buy and I think we need a quality CB, a replacement for Sarah and would be great of course to have a goalscorer bit not easy to find them. I'm still proud of the boys, disappointed with how the season has ended but ready to go again next season with a new coach. Could be worse guys, we could be Man U supporters.
