Eds can i ask you opinion on the stories that have been appearing for about as long as i can remember constantly linking clubs(usually man city and madrid) to our best or most promising players. There's never any sanchez to city or courtois to united stories, really the only time there are stories between 2 big english clubs are our best players to someone else.Would you say these appear due to other teams being interested and making it known or is it just journo's that a) have the wrong end of the stick or b)making it up as they go along.I hope its the latter but if not and it is teams making interest known we have to fight these stories becasue they seem to have a detrimental effect to us fans and the team, if it persists and it was upto me i would play them at their own game, let stories of us being interested in their best/promising players find their way to the journo's.Maybe childish but teams are trying to turn our players heads all the time with these stories, real madrid are the worst for it teams are using dirty tactics towards us so let's throw a few punches back next time.

apologies for the long read and thanks for any replies.

{Ed002's Note - Clubs are interested in each others players all of the time - Liverpool are not special in any way.}

I think it's probably to do with the fact that Chelsea , City and even United are more attractive clubs than Liverpool. Players can earn more, these clubs spend more on the better players and crucially have a habit of winning medals. Liverpool have slipped of the scale this last decade. I think it would be harder for Liverpool to bring say a "Chelsea star player" to Anfield than it would for Chelsea to bring a "star Liverpool player" to Stamford bridge

Hate to agree with a United fan, but I can't argue with the logic.

We are missing a certain sparkle at the moment, which can come from a special group of players (think Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Suarez), the coach (Benitez given his record in Europe and also Houllier imho) or repeated success (CL/CL finals/FA Cup/Cup Treble etc).

Something needs to change or we just keep fingers and toes crossed that the £5-£10m 'gambles' pay off more than they miss. Still shock me that £10m can be seen as a gamble, but I guess that the state of the EPL at the mo.

Yeh isn't meant as a dig at Liverpool mate, just how I see it myself. We both know that United abd Liverpool are the clubs with big history in the epl, but these days players number one priority is the cash.

4.) 13 May 2015 17:43:55
That`s the market these days, Zedd. Not too worried about Ibe tho because i think he`ll sign but it must be concerning because as the ed said, these players may wanna see who the manager will be and get som guarantees on money, playing time and the lot.

5.) 13 May 2015 18:49:58
Stand-United i agree with you 100% mate its there for everyone to see those clubs are more attractive than us i can accept that.
My point was that in papers/websites the number of stories regarding liverpool players moving away compared to other clubs is crazy.Eveyday they are linking someone else to our best players yet any other teams players youd maybe see a rumour every week or two, just curious as to why its constant liverpool players all the time for every rumour about one team there's ten about liverpool. It seems like teams are trying to turn our players heads.

Cos LFC sells and like it or not, many fans from other clubs wanna see us fail. Sad but true, IMO.

I like the bit where br says " its on par with where we are a a club 5th place and two semis" but fails to even acknowledge the terrible mess we were in the champions league, seriously that interview is 5 star comedy"tactical genius". In my f****n dreams

1 nil up against Aston Villa and blew it. We fans know we should be in the FA Cup final now but apparently 'this is where we are at' ?!!!!

Not the right man

The way i see is if we had a mourinho/ancelloti or basically a top manager at the start of the summer even if they had to sell suarez and spend the same amount we would have at least challenged for the league. In fact they would have probably challenged with the squad we have now.It won't get any better so thank you brendan and goodbye.

Last few years we have appointed midtable managers or unproven n have bought lots of players from midtable clubs n that has proven to be massive failue n top teams have left us way behind.

Hey everyone just a few questions on sterling if anybody has any info.

1)is sterling wanting more than money than of we have offered or does he want to move to what he thinks is a "bigger club"

2)can anyone see this ending with sterling signing a new deal personally i don't, I think his heart is set on moving when he gets the chance.

3)was anyone else disgusted with the "quite flattering to be linked with arsenal" comment in that interview that says it all his hearts not in it.

I think he is a fool that believes all the hype there has been from the media and see's himself as world class.Sorry but he never has been never wil be, he will never be half the player hazard/robben are. 50 million is a miracle which we should bite hands off for to sell this deluded guy who think he's one of the best on the planet.People will say fans should support and back him he plays for blabla but its actually his actions that brought this on.The boy is supposedly wanting aguero type wages which i find hilarious. He showed us no loyalty so why in hell should we return it to him.

Ant facts/info about the situation would be appreciated guys.

anybody else bored of hearing about sterling, got a great idea let's wait till summer and see what happens

2.) 11 Apr 2015 14:00:45
Much like yourself my initial reaction was, greedy boy who does he think he is, but as time has passed and I start to look at things in the context of the modern football world I am slowly softening.

If a Lfc player dares question the club, its a disgrace, but if a player Lfc are trying to sign (Suarez, Louvren, lalanna, Origi, etc) starts messing his club around, we view it as ok because its Liverpool he wants to join.

Put yourself in the shoes of one of these fans, and imagine how they feel, when one of their heroes, decides he wants to move on to LFC, after they have "made" him ?

It cuts both ways, and you have to accept it, while in the meanwhile making sure you get as much as possible for them,Southampton have been experts at this.

By the way there is no bigger LFC fan than me, but its changed times.

3.) 11 Apr 2015 14:10:48
Good idea mike Liverpool football club is a million x bigger than anyone player manager or any individual come to that.
Things change quickly in football and in August 2013 who would have dreamt you'd be so close to winning a title in May 2014 and the problems of this season will get sorted in the summer too.

4.) 11 Apr 2015 14:31:41
I personally don't think we should be looking too far into anything reported in the media about Sterling's contract situ. He may have said a few dumb things but he's a 20 year old lad who has suddenly been thrust into the limelight, with all this expectation piled on him. His agent sounds like a right piece of work and the lad deserves a break. Why not just support him whilst he is our player and wait and see what happens in the summer. Us bitching about him isn't going to have any impact on whether he stays or not, and the media are probably having a field day with this. Let's cut him some slack for now. And thanks G62, classy as always

5.) 11 Apr 2015 14:55:12
G62, Class personified! Sterling`s situ is not that complicated because players do it all the time, they wanna see if the club is in a position to compete. He is young and naive BUT is being taken for a ride and spurred on by a self-serving and disingenuous agent which in the end, I can hope that Raheem realizes this and cuts ties with him. We can all disagree on what we think he should do BUT we should alo remember that in the end, it`s his life and his career at stake and he will do what HE thinks is best for him and NOT what we think he should do. Let`s wait and see in the summer and IMO, he and Hendo will sign because it will be suicide to let those two go regardless of the money they will bring. Trust me, you do not wanna be labelled a selling club like Arsenal was because if we cannot attract good players now, we DEFO won`t attract ANY players as a selling club

Sterling is the most over rated 20 yo in football. His last 4 chances from inside 6 yards he has failed to hit the target on every occasion which is no coincidence.Arron lennon would have done better for us than sterling this season without a doubt. I would like to keep sterling but everything points to him leaving just keep in mind he is EASILY replaceable if we are clever with our signings.

Yeh let's support the guy who is flattered to be linked with arsenal. If he is money hungry why turn down a 70k a week pay rise and put off till the summer which will be a lot of weeks taking 30k instead of 100k.Its simple he wants to leave us so why support him
