Eds,

Are you somewhat surprised by the apparent short-list of choices for LB?
I know there is a business model of sorts in place but surely a more experienced player circa 25-26yrs for example, would be better suited than another raw 20yr old to fill a position that seriously needs addressing.

{Ed002's Note - No, I am not surprised that Liverpool are interested in the left backs that they have been looking at - they are good players. I gave no idea about this "business model" you are referring to and clubs do not buy players because of their age, they apply different criteria.}

U reckon we will get the lb position sorted b4 the season starts?

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer questions about timing but there is interest in LBs and given the club did not want to play an extra couple on £M to secure Chilwell it would seem Klipperty would be OK with Moreno.}

I do get what Gezza is saying though ed. Its our main problem area and were looking at players from a lower division on the cheap. Anyway i'm not going against what youve explained mate. If we feel these targeted players are good enough then we should support and get behind all players. let's see what develops.

Well. Just watched the match and if the penny hadn't already dropped. ! Ouch.
It was like watching a bunch of players in pre-season who were new to each other and couldn't quite figure out the game plan. What a contrast to last season.
Seriously bored of the excuse of losing Suarez. That, Sturridge injured and the Sterling fiasco is BR's reasoning as to why its been such a tough season. Seriously??
He had the money and then some to buy what was needed to strengthen the squad.
I don't expect any knee jerk reaction by FSG although i'm sure they've been weighing things up for a while now but this has just made it a whole lot easier for them to dish out BR's P45.
My fear is that our desired replacement won't be that easy to come by. The Klopps of the world will have their many suitors and I doubt we are quite as attractive option as once was for such high profile names, especially without euro competition to ours.

For all the money FSG have splashed their most important signing could possibly be BR's successor. We seriously need to get this one right if we are to have any chance of picking ourselves up. We've already been squeezed out of the top tier by the big money boys and some of the mid-table teams are hungry and getting stronger.
Its going to be a very interesting summer!

I had my doubts about whether BR should stay or go. But my mind is made up.
If I needed to see the difference to what a true quality manager/coach can achieve I only had to look at Van Gaal.
On paper, I think for the first time in a long time our squad was just as good if not better. Yes, he spent big money, but so has BR. I know they scraped through a lot of games & were largely woeful but he turned it around.
The key point being, he had a plan, a formula in mind & adapted it when needed and as such reaped the reward come end of season. BR has had 3 seasons to do this but still, he clearly is undecided what to do next or how to adapt when its not working tactically.

Some good players there .! The keeper is brilliant . Herrera took a little while but he's looking a top player . Even Young is looking a player . Then u got Rooney up top . Along with carrick their pine is very good . Even their centre halves are better than ours which wouldn't be hard . I'd much rather their squad . You be daft to think ours is better

2.) 18 May 2015 10:23:44
Without doubt they have some quality key players & the purchases he bought made them stronger. The difference being he knew where he wanted to play them & how he wanted them to function within the team. The players we have are just as good in many respects but being made to look awful due to being out of position & mis-managed tactically. BR has bought players with no clue what to do with them. I couldn't care less if we didn't buy big name players as long as they were the right fit for the team & their skill set matched the criteria of what was being asked of them.

3.) 18 May 2015 11:29:30
I must be daft then as I think our squad is better.

4.) 18 May 2015 16:58:42
Our squad is better and that is a clear, IMO. I would take Sahko and Lovren over Jones and Smalling anyday. The only place thay are better is at the GK position and maybe up top and I`m being nice. What we don`t have is a manager who has an idea of what he is trying to do. Tha`s the diff and LVG is not the answer because they have served up dross just like us globally, over this season but unlike us, they scraped thru while we, didn`t

Eds, with global branding & marketing in mind, last season Lfc received its plaudits for exciting attacking play both in terms of performance & entertainment value. Things have obviously changed somewhat since. Whether FSG proceed forward with BR or another and whether it be with a DOF or not, is the expectation and agenda from the owners likely to be that the style on the field remains marketably attractive or will a results at all cost stance prevail?
Thanks for your thoughts.

LFC gezza

{Ed001's Note - I am sure the owners would like both.}

Been reading the many posts regarding the penalty fiasco. Its a shame in that its detracted from raising positive comments about our performance as a whole against a tricky team who had the potential to be something of a banana skin, especially when you consider their recent record (and ours in the Champ groups for that matter). I actually thought we played some good football at times, ok it wasn't a stunning performance but rather fairly solid and workmanlike.
The real talking point however, should be about Jordan Ibe, his impact on the game and how positive his recent performances have been. It serves to open up the debate of 'why hasn't he been introduced to the squad sooner' or 'should he be allowed a sustained run regardless of the availabity of more senior players'.
I liked the fact that he was always positive with the ball even when boxed in by two defenders, cut inside when the time was right and showed a mix of skill & strength. Good composure on the ball too. Their left back was prob glad to hear that final whistle. He has bags of potential.

I'm also disappointed somewhat that Hendo's ability as a capt has already been called into question over this one decision. He hardly had the ball ripped from his grasp and bottled a fight to get it back. He probably realised the better peno taker was on the field & that common sense prevailed. Is that not the sign of an unselfish leader with the team at heart? Balotelli also made a point of hugging & thanking Hendo. Rodgers should have just made that matter clearer earlier.

To both Jordans, well done lads. Just keep on doing what you're doing. !

Just like to add well done Simon mignolet that save gives us a great chance to progress.

2.) 20 Feb 2015 13:30:01
Thought Ibe looked brilliant last night, pace, power, skill and always had the defender on the back foot as well as having a bag of tricks.

3.) 20 Feb 2015 16:45:45
My thoughts exactly. Hendo looked a bit frustrated with it, but as you it wasn't snatched, and Mario gave him a great big soppy hug after. I'm disappointed with Gerrard's comments over it, and it's why I'm against having players doing punditry work for their current clubs. Thought Rodgers did the right thing by just avoiding the questions.
As for Ibe, he's looking better each game for me, and the loan to Derby was right move as it gave him some regular time that I don't think he would have got here. The team player ok, but we seemed to lack a final ball and Sturridge was selfish.
All in all a good game, clean sheet, but I would have liked more than a 1 goal lead going to Turkey, I think we'll have to score there, which means another strong team before the city match.

Acelotti would be at the top of my shortlist but I very much doubt its a possibility unfortunately. I fear Rodgers may well stay simply because we can't find the right available & willing candidate. But yes, I totally agree he would bring all that is missing currently. Fingers crossed tho!

Rodgers inept ability to direct his players is the reason so many have performed poorly. There is no cohesive direction, players moved from one position to the next rarely playing their natural role. Confidence must be all over the place. The boo boys don't help either. No wonder mistakes are happening & players are feeling pressured.
